Injustice General Discussion

Leak or not, we've already lost. If keeping us talking and stalking his every move for like the last 6 months isn't winning, I don't know what is. THey should just ship the game with a giant troll face pressed on the disc instead of any artwork.

I would like to see some Circe if they are going to match up villains and heroes, that would be awesome.
I love Circe but I just don't (personally) think any character whose sole bit is "magic" is a good fit for a fighting game. As an addition to an established repetoire like how gadgets are an extension of batman's existince knowledge of martial arts, maybe. But to just create a character based on "boom, stuff happens" is just a waste.

Might as well not even have a character, just have a cloud of sparkles that energy and phantom limbs just jump out of when you press buttons.

Don't give up!
I don't see how magic couldn't work, personally. In fact (to me at least) it would be the easiest for moveset potential. I immediatly think of Dormammu from MvC3. He hardly even exerts any physical effort in his normals, all of it comes from making spheres of energy in his hand or swatting you like a fly with flames and stuff.

How is it any different than a character whose sole bit is "Willpower Manifested"?

JJocelot, I'm not saying it can't be done, and really, Kudos to Capcom for having him and Dr. Strange turn out as well as they did, but if you consider Shuma and MODOK are pretty shitty interpretations of themselves its not like its a sure thing.

I just feel that like, for example Super Skrull, who has a wealth of material to work with or Iron Fist who is super authentic without being exactly derivative or even Rocket Raccoon whose arsenal is basically "anything" so long as it comes out of barrel ahve way better shots at adding real value to the cast, than someone like Phoenix Wright who they hand to basically bend the game engine over a barrel to make work AND he sucks.

Compbros, I'm not sure what character that refers to, but I would say they'd make a pretty shitty fighter too, unless they back it up with an easily defined fighting style, or weapon, or even a stylistic direction (birds, fire, math, etc).

None of which is to say you can't foul up a sure thing character design, or excel with nothing. NRS themselves has a history of making solid gold out of nothing (Sindel, 75% of the ninjas) just as much as turning sugar into shit (Dairou, Ashrah)

Anything could happen
There are so many characters in Super Smash Bros that have never fought before, and they gave them complete move sets that worked well.
Peach, Captain Falcon, Fox/Falco, Zelda, etc.
It just depends on how creative the makers are.

Compbros . I see your point, but that's one of the reasons I usually champion Hal over Kyle, at least in the context of a game. Hal is a former soldier. He has hand to hand training, he probably knows firearms, and he definitely knows air craft. Its boring, its cliche, but its a shtick. Kyle is a fucking artist. So, he can't punch and kick or anything he can just make shit. Well, what does he make? I dunno, anything. To me, as a game designer it would be a way bigger pain in the ass to develop a character who makes "anything" vs a guy who makes "military stuff" and way more likely to get it wrong.

Yeah, but Smash bros isn't a "fighting" game. Smash Bros is a game in which the concept of a fart, or singing, or laying a banana peel is an acceptable method of achieving victory. If you drop Wario or Mr. Game & Watch into Injustice there would be fucking riots.

See, I think it'd be harder for a game designer to use a Hal over a Kyle because you're "forced" to find ways to incorporate his signature constructs into the game. With Kyle you can literally do whatever you want as long as it's within his powers. Same thing for magic users.

Yes, but if they make a Kyle who is either too creative or not creative enough, would you say it would be better or worse to try and have failed with him than to stick with safe old Hal and his airplanes? And don't say no one will care, because I'll call Killzone in here to read more exerpts from "Why I'm right about your character and you aren't."

Take Shazam for example. All we have to go on is the fact that he's super fast / strong / whatever, and lightning is involved. But you have tons of people saying his super is uninspired, that its just Superman 2. Meanwhile, Catwoman has a more clearly defined fighting style, she has whip, she has claws, and she's a total ninja, viola her movelist practically writes itself.

Now I'm no game designer, I've tried, I continue to try, and failure is still my muse, so I'm no authority. And I am sure there is someone out there who designs characters like a boss and could do wonderful things with Zatanna or Circe. I just think (from my ignorant standpoint) that its way easier to make a construct within the confines of a fighter with a character who has defined boundaries, than one who does not. I would take Raven over Zatanna because she has boundaries. She has the bird motif, she has the shadows, she has documented, specific magic attacks. Zatanna has saying stuff backwards and making thing explode and she's a gogo dancer and she has a top hat. There's just no contest in my mind which you would go with, if the goal was a competent fighting character.

It is treated as a fighting game, it has a huge competitive scene.
I am saying that you can make a characters move set work no matter where they are from.

Saying a character shouldn't be in because their move set would hard to make is stupid reason.

Said the guy whose never had to design and release a video game.

Edit: And this is not about Smash as a fighter by definition SRK circle jerk okay whatever, if people wanna play it, fucking play it who cares what its called.

Anyone can be in Smash, because anything goes in smash. If Nintendo wanted to put Tingle in the game and have him tickle everybody to death, nobody would bat an eye lash. But that crap won't play in a game about people in capes throwing each other through buildings.

Just because the top 100 players on earth don't use the bottom 2 shittiest characters in the game, doesn't mean "barely anyone uses them". Not like that Liu Kang army still going strong, should we skip him next game?
at no point did I say don't put anyone in any game. I was pointing out the irony in the fact that ppl pulled so hard for certain characters then those characters saw little love shortly after release. Don't assume more than I said.

Ares is Boss
Doomsday is Sub-Boss
Last 5 slots i think are:
Raven
Black Canary
Poison Ivy
Martian Manhunter/Black Adam
New 52 Captain Cold
They way they described Ares made it sound like he would be playable though. Maybe the bosses will be playable this time.

I think Ares looks super badass and the magazine talking about how they wanted to make him look cool makes me think he'll be playable.

I'm thinking Ares will be a boss, but Superman infused with Ares magic will be the final boss
Doomsday will be unplayable sub-boss
Black Adam, Raven, Captain Cold, Swamp Thing, Ocean Master (similar to cyber sub-zero but for Aquaman) and another female (Starfire or Black Canary I'd guess) in it from the start
Unlockable characters: Ares, MM Hunter

I don't think I'm forgetting anyone and this seems like the most likely roster. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Don't forget about good old Gorilla Grodd.

What makes you think that Swamp thing is in?
Personally, I think that Black Manta would be in over Orm.
I think he'll be in based on the hint from a while ago and obscurity. They did say to look out for more obscure characters and they couldn't possibly have been talking about Aquaman or Hawkgirl who are popular from the cartoons. While there are different levels to obscurity (Captain Cold could be considered this) Swamp Thing fits obscure and good sales at the same time, seems likely to me that a popular New 52 series would get a push from DC. He also offers the potential for an interesting moveset

Don't forget about good old Gorilla Grodd.
I think Grodd is going to be a stage character, maybe interactable. He was shown on noob.com with 3 other background characters and is in a sitting position. He'd probably be the focus point of the stage, but beyond that not playable
