May have been brought up, but how will renting games work? Will there not be renting anymore? Also, will you be able to sale or trade your games?

Ive read a few places when renting games you actually download the game and it has a PLAYTIME amount on it.

I think what they meant was 48 hours rental left for example cause your ented it for 2 days

I don't know how it is in the states but in the UK, used games are typically sold at around £2 less than new games by our main retailer i.e. GAME. There's literally no incentive to buy used imo. The only time I've ever bought used is when I'm getting a very old game that's not available anymore.

I certainly wouldn't miss the 2nd hand market.

Well good point man but the way it works is the game will always be ready for you on your login account. The question will be can you go to a friends house, log in and play your library of games. If so then this is far better than anything we've had cause you no longer have to take discs everywhere

For me when i tour w bands on music i take my ps3 and xbox , Ive replaced mk 3x due to scratching the discs and injuring the laser. The solves my problem 100%

if i have to be connected to the internet 24/7 to play my games i will be pissed, what happens when there is a service outage, or internet is down, just can't play games that you paid for?? digital only is fuckin dumb, there should at least be an option for them to send you a hard copy if you buy it digitally, still cheep for them, because discs cost next to nothing to press,

Uh oh, story time!

I remember when Funcoland was built near the Tops my mom would shop at (RIP Finast/Tops! Damn awesome grocery store!). First day I went in there, I realized they had an NES in their playable kiosks (with Super Dodge Ball!) and a PS1 playing an imported DBGT Final Bout. That place was godlike.

I can't lie, though, GameStop had its moments of awesome, though. When DBZ Budokai 2 came out, my cousin and I went up to the GameStop closer to my house, and they popped in Budokai 2 with everyone unlocked, and we had a crowd of us huddled at the window playing this. My cousin and I just whooped everyone's ass LOL! Only one who could beat us was each other. Played from sometime in the afternoon until dark.

but Best Buy does very well in a few areas because they're the only cog near the crowd. You have to consider the company on a World Wide success rate, I live in a very popular atlanta area and it's been a hot minute since ive seen best buy packed like back in the early 2000s. Times are changing and the company will need to overhaul some of their business mechanics to survive in the times.

There is going to be very little reason to go to best buy to purchase anything VG related

I suppose only time will tell really. I mean, last year alone, two years really every Block Buster closed near me we had about 10 out here...all gone. Kind of hard to believe but I see why. Streaming is just so much easier with movies.

Sadly though the CD music section is near to extinct(no shock there)

VG wise I may have bought like 2 games in the past 10 years, so there I agree but just saying if my GS should close down then I have that option(and across from BB a Toys R us) lol so fortunately I have a few options. I have bought some accessories at BB though for games.

Just have the same thing as Steamguard. It scans your motherboard and only that motherboard can log into your account and if someone tries to log in on another computer, it sends you an email asking if that's you and if you want to add that motherboard as well.

I get this is how all entertainment media is heading, music and film as well, but it's a shame. In the UK Blockbuster has gone into administration and HMV is selling 50% of their stores, just to survive.

So you download a shed load of games onto your console, and one day it gets the red ring of death, and your warranty has expired. GG all those years of money spent on games you can now never play or sell on.

EDIT: I guess if your console gets stolen, the thief wont have to worry about grabbing a bunch of cases and legging it.

Steam has been selling digital games for years and a computer crashing doesn't mean anything. Just download it off the cloud again when you fix your computer or get a new one and start playing again.

Ahh okay, I was never sure how Steam worked, the PC I had before I could play games on but it died, leaving me with this hunk of crap that can play games like Doom 2 and nothing more advanced. So I missed out on the whole steam thing.

Strangely I dont mind downloading music, but I like buying "physical" copies of movies. Not sure how I will feel about games. So much for backward compatability!

Yea, with Steam, you pretty much buy the game and it's in your accounts Library. If you ever lose the data for the game or switch computers, you just download it from your library tab and it will install it on your computer.
It's pretty nifty.

• Makes the developers more money
• Makes pre orders more organized (automatic downloads while you sleep it'll download at 12:01am)
• No need for receipt for warrenty
• No more scratched disks and game is saved on your profile
• More money made for Sony and Microsoft as well

Face the facts. Gamestop stock has dropped tremendously and the rumor of no backwards compatibility is becoming more true by the day with announcement of new systems. Who will this benefit?


Benfits:

• Best Buy, Target, Walmart, Cost Co, Amazon because thats where you will end up going for ALL your system's accesories and systems being bought themselves. Gamespot and other video game only stores will cease to exist giving revenue bump in that department to those compaines.

Who will be hurt by this?

What are your thoughts on this guys? Lets face it MUSIC CDs and Gaming CDs are becoming a lot a like.

I don't even really see how gamestop exists as an online entity when companies like ubisoft and EA have their own online stores for digital downloads. Sony and Microsoft can offer digital downloads for their respective consoles, or you can download games from the publisher directly I really don't see gamestop's role in the future, as long as publishers adjust pricing of games in a similar fashion as Steam.


I might short Gamestop if they rally from an MS announcement that MS will allow used games. Even if Sony/Xbox have used games in the next gen... digital downloads are only going up from here.
