What? No one cares about how Melee made it to EVO this year?

Or how about how the FG community raised a quarter million for breast cancer research? I'm surprised there's nothing about this. Yes it's mega old by now, but I still wanna hear input. What do you guys think about these two things and who were you rooting on to make it into EVO?

Besides Injustice. Don't say Injustice. It's too obvious. oh and if there's already a topic on this, pls lock mods

I think (at least I did) the Mk kumminity just assumed WB was going to "donate" a certain amount to make injustice a featured game. Clearly we were wrong. I'm pretty sure it will be there regardless.

EVO lineup and side games are two very different things. WB/NRS ain't putting up $10k for an Injustice tournament so that a street fighter/marvel player can win it?

Smash has always been a dark horse in the fighting game community. Sort of like a big mole on someone's face nobody who plays fighting games wants to admit that the community for Smash exist. Through tons of ridicule for over a decade the Smash community has continued to play there one game Melee.
Yes, Brawl is not a fighting game. When a developer goes out of their way to make a game LESS competitive by making the game more ariel based, taking out all advanced movements, and adding tripping the game does not deserve to be called a fighting game.
Well the Smash community wanted a chance for glory and to be taken seriously by the fighting game community and this is there one and only chance. If they screw this up they will NEVER recover.
I don't know the ends and outs of the Smash community very much, but I do know it is getting old and is showing it. We will just have to see what comes of this.
At least they have their shit enough together to win this drive. Other communities can't even show up for tournaments let alone put money towards winning a slot for EVO.

What makes you think Marvel or Street Fighter players are going to take it?

This game isn't being made by Capcom. Even though it has back to block it doesn't mean it's the same shit.

Block stun is more like MK last I heard, and MK players have more time to focus on Injustice since a lot of us only play MK and have the free time terrible Netcode allows.

Injustice will make it into Evo 2014 the old fashioned way, so no worries. There really isn't any other major release in 2013, so it doesn't have a lot of competition.

This community didn't really have incentive to push hard for its inclusion this year. The game isn't out, and we already have a main stage game.


Edit: Congrats to the Smash community. That was a serious chunk of change y'all threw together.

This is sort of thinking is similar to the way older folks think about music. The definition of music is anything which has a repeating beat. However, many a folk are not accepting of newer "alternative" forms of music.
Smash is an "alternative" form of fighting game. There are two flavors of fighting game 2d the vanilla and 3d the chocolate (there are many variations on these basic flavors). Smash is not restricted to either of the basic types of fighting games since there are no restrictions to movement and the stage is about as important as the characters. I guess this would make Smash strawberry flavored.
To me the Smash players are just there. If they want to come play they can.

I've seen tons of people who still don't consider MK a fighting game or take it seriously at all. You make a very good point. People rip on both games wrongly for some irrational reasons which nobody should care about or consider anyway. There's no problem with Melee being at Evo at all.

I just can't wait till Evo this year :)

All it matters is that you can make your game look good with your community standing behind it. Doesn't matter if I, you or Capcom likes it. If the community puts on a show with numbers than it's fair game.

I honestly don't think people who don't play said game or activity at an elite level should even have an opinion on what's legit or not.

Because that's what happened with the MK9 tournament. But nice assumptions that I thought it was because of not having to hold back to block. Nice try though, kid.

Melee was what got me into competitive gaming, it was my first scene and it'll always hold a special place in my heart. I called this result from the start and I couldn't be happier for them.
