First and foremost, there is a lot of drama within our community at the moment, and while that is evident in all fgcs, I just wanted to thank you all for the wonderful moments I had today.
Today this community did something very special for me. They tuned in and watched a pretty solid mk tournament that I travelled across two provinces to enter.
There were 12 people in this tournament. It was my EVO.
I have no mk scene, and I travelled as an outsider to a "local" tournament. This tournament had good offline players participating. Healthy hype was created on Facebook, and the table was set for a very interesting tournament.
The springhill players consider themselves very good at mk and they wanted to prove it to the island champ (me). Circumstances and fatherhood mean my time has run short for non donated travel expenses, so I really was looking at this tournament as my last.
I reached out to you the community, and I have been told there were over 100 people in the stream. I played against mitchie dagger in winners finals and lost. Floods of texts came in supporting me. I won my winners match against a very good kitty in Justin credible and faced mitchie again in grand finals.
The hype was Insane. 60 people were at the venue. I reset the bracket...it was at this point this very special moment...that my local tournament became my everything...my own personal EVO.
All the setups stopped. People started yelling, cheering, looking and ahhing at every combo. They were hooked. The matches were close, the hype was INSANE and for those final matches, I truly felt like everything came full circle.
I lost in grand finals after resetting the bracket and got 2nd place. I could not be any happier if I won. Players from capcom games approached me and mitchie saying they have never seen anything that hype, Facebook posts were made telling people to get their asses down there to see a spectacle. My picture was taken for the local paper, and you...my family were there watching.
I travelled to Toryuken, I played and won island showdown 2 but nothing will compare to this tournament. Great matches, great experience, and a lot of people said they were going to pick up mk. We put on a show, and we stole the tournament.
That will forever be my EVO moment. If any of you can go to any local and are hesitating due to money, travel distance etc. Go. You can find your own EVO moments without ever going to Vegas. You can find your EVO moment anywhere.
I won 25 dollars, it covered my entry costs and not much else, but the feeling of completeness, accomplishment, family, and gratefulness cannot properly be expressed.
I encouraged you all to find your own EVO moments, and you can bet your bottom dollar I will be there watching if you ask, I owe this community a lot, and I will never forget this.
