Resident Evil Series going back to Classic Survival Horror

Yes it is, survival is just that. I don't think you should be armed to the teeth with flame throwers, magnums, shotguns, handguns, etc.... I Am Alive is a good example of Survival, Survival Action-Adventure but Survival nonetheless. Amy, while being a very bad game, is probably the truest example of Survival-Horror in recent years.
I totally get what you are saying and I agree.

They have an ok game called "Spirit Camera". I bought the 3DS for it. Not bad... But kinda clumsy and awkward to play lol.

And a fan translation for FF4 in the Wii since it never got a US release. You can download it for free to an SD card. I have to admit though, I'm still holding out hope it will just show up here eventually somehow :(

The Gamecube remake of RE1 was by far my favorite RE game, the newer ones really drained all the tension and suspense from the series with the focus on action. 5 was fun, but not good enough for me to have much interest in 6.

That would be awesome if Capcom did go back in that direction with the series.

I hear this but over time you see that it really isn't. A company naming it as such doesn't necessarily mean it is that. Let me throw a hypothetical at you.

Say Capcom came out and said "Resident Evil 2 is not Survival-Horror, it is Dramatic-Horror" despite it simply being a more ramped up RE1. Now, would you say "Capcom says it's not Survival-Horror so it's not" or would you say "This game is just like RE1, how is it not Survival-Horror?".

Dead Space is also not survival-horror.
yea they did add a lot more action to the series with each new release but at least up until re4 you couldnt go ham like you can in re4 and re5 and had to save most you health and ammo for the last boss.

There's a sequence in Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) that's more Survival-Horror than anything RE has ever done.

A detective that is afraid of the dark is talking to a patient in an insane asylum. When she's done with the talking the power gets cut and all the cells are opened and the guard that was escorting her is killed. Now you take control and you're walking in a completely dark area and all you hear is her breathing and the laughter of the insane patients as they walk by. The second you're seen you die, no chance to fight back, no quick time events, just death.

Edit: Found it.

Resident Evil 4 struck the best balance of old and new in my opinion.

The original was the only Resident Evil that was consistently scary and haunting(although all of them have had their good scare moments). I liked Resident Evil 5 a lot too...I'm enjoying 6, but I'm not too far into this one to say.

I'm interested in seeing a return to form, but I did like blending the two styles together.
Have you tried Revelations? I found that one far more tense and the humanizing factor on the bosses was unsettling as fuck. "Halp me...*ehhhuhg* I'm shctill....human...*wekhfgalkjfd*" That shit creeped me out. :D

They said Survival Horror doesn't have the same hook as a shooter, so that was the reason for the changes I guess.

i enjoyed both 5 and 6 and honestly, i like where they were headed, they're just not quite "there" yet. Honestly this new game should be a spin off, something to please the fans of the old games, and then continue with the main series like they are, but improving it next time around.

Please no reboot. Look what happened to everyone's favorite demon hunter, Dante. Capcom should just continue the series but go back to survival horror classics.

RE was never true survival horror, as it was always kind of an action game. There wasn't much scary in it, and it was just a matter of patiently getting to the big guns so you could walk back through the level and blow everything away.

Silent Hill def. was, though. The original was one of the scariest games I'd ever played, at that time.
I think they were just going for two totally different types of "horror" the first RE is like the video game equivalent of a George Romero movie. And unless you were playing it on easy you really couldn't go Rambo through the whole game.

Oh that's right...I've experienced the main games, but not the side games like Revelations haha. I might start watching the playthroughs on youtube actually, thanks :).

No you couldn't go Rambo but you also could handle any situation with relative ease. First time I fought Tyrant I'd run, shoot with Colt, run, shoot with Colt, until he was dead. Never got touched.

have you played any of the games ive metioned?
The only one I haven't is Forbidden Siren. They were great, and I never even said Dead Space was better than any of them I do however still think it's really good. If I wanted to play some of my favorites I would play shit like Silent Hill, Corpse Party, or older Resident Evils. However, to sit there and say there haven't been any good survival horror games at all? C'mon bro'...c'mon. I will admit that the genre has been dying off, but there have been games to redeem it a little. I thought Fear 2 was another really good one.

Ooooh, see, Fear is about as Action-Horror as it gets. There have been good Horror games but not good Survival-Horror games.

I didn't think it was that easy on hard, though that might just be me, but I definitely think it had it's moments of suspense. Sure it wasn't absolutely terrifying, but I think it was pretty effective considering what it was (a zombie game).

I didn't really find the Silent Hill games I played very hard either (1 and 2) but difficulty isn't what makes a survival horror game scary anyway. A creepy atmosphere and building suspense are more important than challenging boss fights.

How is Silent Hill 3 by the way, I was thinking about giving that one a shot?

I remember that!! It was like Heavy Rain, but with a plot that made no sense lol. It was really fun though.

I was just saying this in Facebook. I still put Eternal Darkness in every few years and the game still finds new ways to mess with me. I've lost count how many times I've yelled, "Get your big ass off the remote! I'm gonna diiieee!!! ... oh... Right, sorry" lol
