Sage Leviathan

I'm platinum mad!
I like fun and interest :3

Noob is my favorite character. I mained him for a year.
I main Kung Lao now and have picked up Smoke.

I love all 3 of those characters for who they are, not necessarily what tier rank they are (tho i enjoy them more for it).
If it just so happens that Kung Lao is top tier, so be it.

(And yes, i can go back to Noob and still win most of the time)

Half the reason why I asked this question was I went from Sonya, who alot of people feel is a broken hag to Sheeva who a good number of poeple consider her a joke. I lose more matches than when I used to play Sonya, but I feel more satisfied with the wins I do get. I was just wondering if this was a general consensus or if I just weird in my thought process.

Play who YOU want to play man dont worry about what everyone else thinks. If you want to play Sonya, play her. If you want to use Sheeva, use her, simple. I've been laughed at a lot for continuing to use jade, but in the end I still use her and I am semi decent at the game (still improving even after having it since it dropped. lol)

Honestly half the reason I choose characters is because I like playing uncommon or unpopular characters. I started with Sonya, moved to Jax, then baraka, then Sheeva. I went from top to bottom pretty much tier wise. Sheeva is frustrating but fun at the same time.

i can respect that, but for me i just use my favorites (or in some cases, characters that i am actually interested in using). trust me if tanya was in this as a playable character, i would have three staple mains instead of just two

Chongo

Dead Kings Rise
If Reptile was the worst character in the game, I'd still play him. I could never just pick up Kung Lao or Sonya, no matter how much I ever wanted to. I can only play characters that appeal to me, and that is Reptile. Sure, I screw around with Cage, Kenshi and Scorp, but in any match that matters, I'll pick Reptile no matter who the opponent chooses.

It's a mixed bag for me. I will always main Scorpion, Ermac, and Stryker, but in the case of MK9, Stryker just doesn't cut it. When a character is as badly designed as him, the game stops being fun and just becomes frustrating.

The fact is that the low-tier characters simply don't have the exploitable bullshit like the top tiers. These characters have to rely on making godly reads the entire match in order to have a snowball's chance in hell. And with characters like Kung Lao and Sonya who throw all sense of footsies and fundamentals out the window, you can't help but want to fight fire with fire.

I used to have a favorites back in Mk2, Kung Lao and Mileena, then that was all I saw when I first started playing this game and that went completely against my playing the oddballs philosophy. Otherwise I probably would have played them.

thats funny because the tier list for mkII has mileena at #1 lol
I played Mk2 back when it was first around, I didn't even know what a tier list was back then =P Plus the computer reacted to whatever move you threw at them so no character seemed better than others back then.

hmph...i wouldn't be with a dude (or a chick) that i didn't love just because he/she was gorgeous...i wouldn't waste my life struggling in a career that does not fulfill me just because it promised big money...and i WON'T play as characters i can't stand just to have a better chance of winning. being untrue to yourself just to have an easier go of it, in any circumstance, is foolish. sheeva and sindel are my wives. they always have been, and they're always gonna be. jade and kitana will always be my mistresses. shang, baraka, and quan are forever my backdoor men. kanowill always be the FWB who pops in from time to time for fun. that's just how it's gonna be. i don't care where they fall on the tier list; i picked them because they are my characters, not because i think they present the path of least resistance.

and yes, victories ARE that much sweeter when you use the character you should be using, not just the one you think is safe. and yes, i guarantee you an inspired player using their favorite is, more often than not, gonna do better and be better than a player who's using a character they may not really be crazy about, but figure they can win with. TYM is littered with kung laos, cyraxes, kabal's, cages, and smokes who got buried with my low-tier squad. you show me any player i've ever faced (except for that handsome bastard DanCock, who is just too good, and Espio, who deals me a loss for every win) and i'll show you a victim who knows what it's like to get telestomped into shit by sheeva and lit up by purple fireballs. yes, i have at times had to eat losses due to my characters simply not having the tools to cope with f3's, nd cancels, etc, but i'd rather that than win using a character i simply can't stand (ie sonya, cage, raiden, scorpion, kung lao. no offense to those who love 'em, i just never clicked with them; they are not meant for me).

so, to make a long story short...LOYALTY!!!

so u were playing the best character and had absolutely no idea xD, i played mortal kombat II and umk3 back when i was like 5 or 6...my idea of playing mk back then was just picking 2 players and playing by myself and trying to do the fatalities when i'd kill player 2. looooool xD

Nope I was an MK noob. I thought being good at mk2 was doing a jump kick and dive kick with Kung Lao and calling it a combo.

i always liked picking rain back then cuz his lightning was an infinite on sega xD altho i didn't know what an infinite was at that time. i just knew that i could keep using lightning over an over and there was nothing u could do xD

This right here.

I haven't personally gone to an offline tournament in my life, but if I ever do, I'm going to ask my opponent if it is fine for me to pick Kratos. If he says "yes", I will ask the managers of the tourney as well. If either my opponent or the managing guys say "no", then I will choose my other characters! (Stryker, Liu Kang, Sektor, and Freddy Krueger)

Feels really nice to win as Kratos. Luckily, he does have some type of bullshit like KL and the Kaballin' Nomad, but not as exploitable as theirs. Such as that Golden Fleece and the Hermes Flash Parry. Both require you to know when to use them, at the proper times.

What if your favourite character happens to be top tier?

(Cage's sunglasses and winning smile are why I choose him, not F3)
