Mods please move if this doesnt belong here.

Have any you guys ever toyed with the instalation files? The other day I was messing with them and found that the music is all .WMA files. I was specially mad at Primal Rage having arcade like graphs but the music was almost midi. I then took out one song from the PSX version wich are CD quality and converted it to WMA and changed the name of the file and threw it into the PR folder. Voila! Arcade quality music with no slodown whatsoever!

This lead me tho other questions. The game files are .sr files. Wich they have a similar "size" to mame roms. Could there be a way to hack them to include more games on it? Lets say, UMK3 at 60fps (since all MAT2 games run at 60 fps). (yay)

I even noticed that there is a "launcher" type in the files wich categorize them to their individual arcade boards so they are for example: Al MK games and Narc into one launcher (T-unit + Wolf hardware), Primal Rage has its own launcher etc.

I know shit about computing/programming/hacking but this seems to be viable and interwesting to say the least.

So basically this midway collection is just emulating the arcade versions, So why go through the trouble for the same emulation?

It could be the ROMs with an emulator. I think it'd be pretty easy to check, but I don't have access to the game unfortunately.

If you open some of the files in a hex editor, there might be some signs in the file that will tell us what kind of file it is.

PSpad is a free text editor with Hex editting. Once it is installed you can right click on a file and choose PSPad HEX and it will open. Maybe a screenshot of what that looks like for a couple of the files might help us figure it out.

EDIT: i will not be able to post until Monday cause Im free and going out so please excuse me hehe

Funny stuff:

I made a direct access to the Primal Rage "launcher" and moved ot to the Desktop and changed the icon. Just double click and direct to PR game! No MAT2 menus!

The MK games and Narc are all on a hard coded menu or something. It looks like DOS or something, but in one PS2 bootleg copy of MKII from shaolin monks I saw that it utilizes the same menu:

Sorry is a cellphone pic, MAT deluxe doesnt let me take screenshots...

Very interesting. So those 3 ROMs are packed into one file it appears. The first, eerom is probably a default save game.

In the arcades, there were a couple of ROM chips for game code and then a bunch of ROM chips for video and audio. So, the second ROM is probably the code and the third is the content. It could be possible to pack the various ROM files from the arcade version of UMK3 and substitute it.

I was thinking on that cause I thought that replacing one game in the default MAT 2 menu would be hard/impossible. Funnier yet is that you can actually edit/swap/wathever you want with the in menu videos. Even the bonus videos they are in WMV. You can put your own vid in there and it will play regardless of the size in MB. Only you have to put the same file name and that it is WMV.
