Amazing tourney so far.

I just typed like 5 paragraphs on news and happenings, but my PC crashed, no way I can retype it.

Some quick highlights:

Summoning looks on fire, Shock is getting better as he goes on after getting settled on the parts on the cab, $25 random tourney going on now, and everyone in the top 8 is looking pretty dangerous right now.

Tomorrow morning is going to be awesome.

Really want to get everyone out to this next year. Enjoying meeting all the guys I haven't met before, let's get an even bigger crowd next time.

CONGRATULATIONS REO ON BECOMING THE SEASONS BEATINGS REDEMPTION UMK3 CHAMPION!
I cant say it any better than Shock did:

"Reo is the best UMK3 player in the nation right now. Let it be known"-Shock

Before the tournament even started I said it would be REO and MOE in grand finals. I said that REO would edge it out and win as well. My boy REO did work. You have truly come a long way in such a short amount of time. I really wish I could have made it, it looked mad hype and hella fun, maybe next time. Congrats to all of top 8. I was personally rooting for Konqrr and of course REO. Couldn't get in stream chat but I was watching the whole time.

In my opinion REO had Moe mindfucked. However, I do realize that the sticks were causing Moe some problems. Though despite that, it just seemed that Moe couldn't handle REO's pressure and impressive defense. Very impressive by both Moe and REO though, first time I actually got to see first hand Moe's gameplay, very nice high level stuff.

Overall great top 8 and I'm sure the whole tournament was great. Very nice turnout (34?) and I heard there was a lot of prize money as well. Hope everyone had fun, and can't wait for the vids!

That truly was an awesome tourney, tons of players and talent.
Congrats to REO for the win. Nice to see a bunch of old schoolers getting some of that rust off, I hope they make a habit out of it.

Unfortunately my computer crashed while I was recording and I only got a portion of the last set between REO and Moe. If anyone else recorded, please post up.
All of today's action (Top 8), plus a good amount of the stuff from the early rounds last night were recorded.

I'll talk to the guys in charge to see when we can make it available.

Had an excellent time.

I'm tired as hell right now and will post a full tourney recap and thoughts later.

I just want to say congratulations to Reo for winning UMK3 and for LuckyDay for having to put up D-Pads for the Arcade. Big props for Shock And Static for helping and Phil for helping. It was alot of fun but can we use MAME next time?

When I was leaving Fugee said that they are going to use cab from now on since we know pads work. They are going to wire more pads to additional machines and we're going to work on a way to directly stream video from the board. Other tournaments will probably still use mame unless some portable setups are made, but there is no better input response than directly wiring sticks or pads to an arcade board. I also asked Fugee to make sure that all the wiring buttons and sticks on whatever machines are used for tournaments are 100% identical. I'm going to look into ways to get other pad options available. This would basically turn into emulating controllers by using the hardware and modifying the input.

Well, as far as the tournament goes, I had a blast. Amazing turnout of over 32 players, which was a goal for this year. Got to see some old faces, a lot of new ones, and finally got to meet Konqrr.

We drove out from NJ on Friday, the group consisting of me, Summoning, 9.95, AC1984, and REO, along with Smmoning's brother-in-law Voy. The trip took around 10 hours including stops and there was much of an enjoyable time there. We showed up at the venue and went over some things with the pads on the cab, got in a few casuals on the cab, and went back to the hotel for more casuals on mame.

I'll make my shoutouts as soon as I can make a list of the players, probably later tonight.

I run UMk3 in Ohio for the most part, so after some more modifications, we'll use that cab with pads for almost everything in Ohio.

Like i told you guys this weekend, get that X-converter and get a PSX pad and use it on XBL if thats what you usually play on so that when a tourney rolls around, you are on spot with the pads.

The pads this weekend were more like a BETA, this was the very first time EVER we had a cab tourney with pads connected to the cab. It was historic.

I'll make a thread about that converter soon.

fLoE and D-Fly did not enter and had to attend to private matters, and Ghaleon was unable to play as well. I didn't see clue2025 around. The total was 37, but 34 entered. There were a few other players who could have entered as well but didn't have time to play. Overall an amazing turnout and fantastic tournament, I would say close to 50 people played UMK3 over the course of the weekend, including Justin Wong, as seen in Phil's photo.

Yeah, as Tim said, this was kind of like version 0.1 for pad use on cab. I have improvements to make to the method as well as a way to make all sorts of other pads work (360 pads people like for some reason, lol).

It will also allow me to let people who play on stick mod and plug theirs in (I know 3 people who didn't enter because they play on 6 button SF layouts).

I am also going to make a thread dedicated to the improvement of the method, and I'll ask you guys to come in there and share your thoughts and get better.

Rouse, if we do Bar Battles 3 there's a chance we'll do Mame if it becomes a logistics or time issue getting the cab to the venue, so you'll have another chance to rep on what you're use to.

Shock, wish you could have seen it, but we had about 10-15 other guys around the cab on Sunday night going at it the entire time while they were waiting between tourneys. The other cab had a few guys playing who were actually pretty good that said they hadn't played in years but would have liked to enter if they were here on Saturday.

Konqrr was around later in the night so he probably saw the crowds forming, and I would assume he got some matches in with them. From what I saw he was handling them pretty easily, but maybe a few players with experience showed up.

At the very least, just having the cab there got a lot of people interested, which is good.

Yeah it sounds like things continued to hype after most of the tournament players left. I already started discussing with players about modding to have the DB15 connection for sticks, it's probably going to be necessary.

Lucky Day

Kombatant
Yeah, like I told Phil on Sunday, DB15 wiring for sticks is easy mode.

I was hoping to secretly break mine out during the tourney, but I didn't have time to do it.

A DB15 cable can be put in any stick in no time at all, and I'll make it a point to add that to the checklist of what needs to happen as part of this "project" to set a standard for competition UMK.

I have a lot of ideas floating around in my head in relation to all of it, but I still need to rest and get back to normal before starting a discussion and thread on it, lol.

In the end, the standard needs to be the arcade game, but with the control preference that is perfect for each player.

We might get extremely lucky and the PS3 HD collection will give us three arcade perfect ports and this will all be moot. But I'm not holding my breath.

There's always next year for Lex.
