The Official Florida MK thread

Scorpion is pretty legit. Reminds me a lot of Ryu, tools wise. He's got all the necessary tools to compete, I'm surprised there isn't a lot of Scorpions in competitive/tournament play.

Oh and for anyone wanting to go to the MK monthly tournament and doesn't have a ride, I can pack 4 dudes in my Honda Civic so just message me (pause).

I posted this in the CEO facebook page but I wanted to put this here too.

"MK won't die just as long as people get out of their houses and show up for it. There's a lot of players out there that won't come out whether they are content with their online records, afraid to lose, etc. Thats the biggest issue. Nobody in the MK scene wants it to die but they don't want to put the work in either"

I think the real issue is that people don't like the idea of showing up for 6 or 7 man tournaments.

What we should be doing is having monthly tournaments for money. If the entry was 2 dollars and winner takes all I bet that people
would consistently show up because there is a real, tangible reward for participating.

Why do I need to get out and practice at ranbats with local guys when I can jump on live or PSN and bump fists with guys who are probably
better than my local competition?

Its gambling really, the same thing that beckoned us to put 5 dollars every Saturday into the the arcade cabinet: Finally beating that smug asshole whos been standing there for 2 hours, taking his lunch money and kicking him to the back of the line.

But isnt there always a reward for winning a tournament? Youre right, a 6 or 7 man tournament isnt very big but if you hype it up enough maybe it'll spark more of an interest for other players for the next get together/tournament. I agree with you that there should be more tournaments held, but think about it, if everyone had the mentality "Why leave me house when I can play online?" then youre right, no one will show up. On the 21st of this month there'll be a tournament held for MK. Others will be there as well, but MK is one of them, you should come out to that one...assuming you live in the tampa/clearwater area. Theres also Titans3 in...September I believe. I$aac knows more about it than I do, but what I'm trying to say is that there will be money on the line for those, so if thats what bothers you you can go to those. I feel getting together every week in person will make not only you stronger, but your competition stronger so it cycles and builds the scene better. You can reflect on why you lost/won and talk to the person next to you about it, where online you dont have the same scene. Just my thoughts, theres obviously no right or wrong way to go about playing, but for me personally I would love to get my ass kicked in person than online so I can talk with the other players and get tips.

Oh no, best believe I'm comin to the one of the 21st and keep your bags packed because I'm sending you home early, best believe son.

But I think that money is what draws. If you had to pay to get into a practice session and there happened to be a tournament at the end I bet more people would show up and people would get better in the process.

I'm a strong advocate for bi-weekly tournaments.

We got any Treasure Coast players? Vero Beach/Wabasso/Sebastian. We're trying to get a small scene going here, my cousin and I have been playing every weekend if anyone is interested.

I know there are a couple of people in the West Palm area that have a small scene there. I know thats kind of a drive, but I think there are a few there that get together. If you cant find anyone that'll respond here, try the Mortal Kombat Florida page on Facebook and see if you can find anyone there.

tell me more about this west palm scene, im in west palm right now and want some competition
I've never been to this place but apparently theres a place called Wellington Mall in Gorilla Gaming. Apparently theres a couple of people that get together there for some games, and MK might be one of them. Maybe they have their own website or facebook you can look up.
