Exactly. I may not like Obama, but if it's a choice between him and 4 years of a Republican White House under Romney's watch, the devil I know is better than the devil I don't.
I can't help but think that another Rep pres. would be Bush II all over again. They REALLY damanged themselves I think alighting with religious zealots.

I'm happy that our government is helping to get that Chen guy and his family out. As much as you want to bash America, we (usually) don't have government agents blatently beating up friends and family of dissedents.

Me too. China fucking scares me, man.

Obama's administration's made its share of mistakes, but the fact that the GOP wants to try and center all the blame of our economic woes on him and the Democrats, and take no blame for the 8 years of Wall Street anarchy and bleeding money into defense, pointless wars and militarization that took place under the Bush Administration's watch, makes me fucking sick.

Lastly, Actually, yes my opinion does matter and isn't any more or less important then yours. You saying "my opinion doesn't matter" IS your opinion. You just admitted right there you have an elitist, arrogant mentality which I couldn't care for but like I said, believe what you want. Usually people with that mentality can't or won't see opposing views no matter how many times that person tries to get thru to you. I'll admit I'm wrong when I'm actually wrong. An opinion can't be wrong, again...do you people even know what the word "opinion" means?
I'm an elitist because you can't understand basic science? My point is that it doesn't matter if you believe marijuana kills brain cells, because that is demonstrably incorrect. There AREN'T two sides to this argument. This is the problem.

Something like a stance on abortion is an opinion. This is not. There isn't any possible political slant you could make of this, this is a commonly accepted scientific fact vs an old anti-drug myth. This is me trying to tell you what science shows, and you being completely ignorant to the most simple explanations I could make of this. Your own links like 6 pages ago proved my case, and somehow you still think you're right. You seem to be really out of your league on this. Just admit you're wrong for fucks sake, I won't even rub anything in.

If I tell you there are 41 states, and say that's just my opinion, would someone be an elitist if they called me out for it?

Ya I agree we should keep researching Hydrogen as a fuel source, I think it may even have applications in space travel. There's more random H floating around than U.

True, accidents like Chyrnobal are bad, but that's an example how not to build a reactor. Those reactor designs were flawed, and pretty much the only ones built were by the Soviets. US reactor design is safer, and modern reactors can (and are I believe in France) be designed so that a meltdown is impossible. Pebble bed reactors are an example, IIRC, and that reactor in the article I linked can't meltdown either IIRC.

I understand now what you mean by appreciating the cultures, although I personally would not feel safe visiting Jordan.
I actually didn't know that it could have space travel applications..I wasn't particularly sure if Hydrogen would only be effective in our type of atmosphere or not, good to know.

That's a fair point, I mean I cannot disagree that nuclear tech has evolved immensely since then, I'm sure with probably minimal to no regulations and no public voice on the construction of reactors was a big factor in that disaster too.

I'll have to do some research into Pebble bed reactors, I'm not super adept in my knowledge of the most effective, current nuclear tech, thanks.

I know right? Crank that shit out, no more energy crisis. Could power cars, trains, planes, space craft. And you don't really need much material at all for really small stuff like that. Think the Fallout universe, without the whole nuclear apocalypse piece. :)
LOL, love the Fallout reference:D.

I was particularly intrigued with the size of some of these batteries (the size of a refrigerator is small), the prospect of having nuclear power run hospitals, sub-divisions, schools and such actually has my interests peaked. I feel a lot less skeptical about it, which is nice:).

They seem to be keen on collaborating with solar and wind power to help support those systems with nuclear since they aren't always consistent, I like that they're not trying to subvert those energy sources.

The part in the article that I found a bit of grim foreshadowing was CEO Deal's reference to World War 3 being fought over water, though they also talk delightedly about offering desalination plants to stave off such risks, so that's comforting.

Ya na, no problem. Nuclear has always facinated me. I think hydrogen will have its uses too, especially in space. There's more random H floating around in space and uranium, lol... but I don't know how much there is and how feasible it.

Water will likely become a problem. We can desaliante the oceans, but thats expensive, so I think there's still a danger of water wars.

Unless that devil actually makes things worse lol then...

But anywho, @Revolv, basic science? lol we must be talking about two different sciences then. My point is regardless of weed killing or not killing, it's a fact that it alters the brain chemistry via certain neurons and functions that certain parts of it control....such as perception, learning, adapting, concentrating etc as again...those basic tests proved.

This is actually, how I feel about weed is my opinion as well as a stance on abortion. You said "my opinion is wrong" more or less, an opinion can't be wrong unless someone claims it's a "fact" which again, an opinion isn't. It's merely how one feels personally.

I'm not ignorant to it, you're ignorant to anything negative concerning weed proven or typically known already. I can't help you there. I'm not admitting anything because I'm not wrong just because YOU feel so. Why change the subject to states, when we're discussing weed? Obviously anyone that knows history knows there's not 41 states, the weed studies however if you read every link to them will say "inconclusive but at the same time, it's no secret it'll effect someone's brain after a while" when smoked often...this is what you won't admit. That weed=effects someone's brain chemistry, even if it's temporary or not. But like I said, you're an occasional stoner as you've admitted and supporter for legalizing weed so I guess I'd be in denial too in that case. It's like someone tells me, MK isn't the deepest fighter and I say "yes it is" just because I love it...

rev0lver, MKF30, would you both mind just leaving the thread? If you want to continue back and forth, PM.
With all due respect, isn't that what this thread is for discussing political issues? Besides, I'm not flaming him and he's not really flaming me. We just don't agree on this topic lol

Even though I love MK more then anyone, I'll be one of the first to admit it's not the deepest fighter in terms of depth out there.

those basic tests proved.

This, right here, is the common denominator I'm seeing in all of your posts. It comes down to a basic misunderstanding of scientific research.

Once again, for the 5000th time, those tests did not prove anything about marijuana's effect on the brain. Please, please show me what about this you do not understand. Even if there was a study that did find marijuana causes cognitive impairment on certain tasks, it would have nothing to do with brain cells dying.

So, once again, does weed kill brain cells, yes or no?

And yes, this opinion can be wrong when it is proven so by the scientific method, as it has. Morals are what are truly opinions, this is an argument of fact.

MKF30

Fujin and Ermac for MK 11
It's not a basic misunderstanding, the scientist said himself conducting the studies. Can weed kill you? Probably not, for the amount would have to be really high and in a small window of time. However does it effect your brain when smoked heavily? Yes. And he stated this with that little test they gave the 7 people who smoked vs. people who didn't...

Yes, they did....why are you denying this? The guy said himself there were noticable differences between the stoners and sober people doing math, reading, learning, focusing etc on certain puzzles.

No, an opinion can only be wrong if someone claims it's a "fact" which again I haven't done.

Example:

Fact-The sky is blue

Opinion-It's cooler out now(to me because it's my opinion) what may be warm for someone, may be cold for someone else...

I fail to see how anyone could possibly screw things up worse than the Bush Administration did.

Barack Obama himself could knock on my door, walk into my house, kick my mother in the shin, obliterate my dog with a blue kolishnikov, and declare bankruptcy on my entire town, and he STILL wouldn't be as big a fuck up in my eyes as they were.

This is not a fact and the sky isn't blue.

The sky only appears blue from Earth due to the way sunlight interacts with the earth's atmosphere. Go look up 'Rayleigh scattering'. By the same token, the sun isn't yellow either. It's actually white.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. Science.

sleeping kills brain cells, what makes you think weed doesnt?
By this logic, weed is no more threatening than sleep? I say this as we need sleep to live healthy, happy, functional lives and if something 100% necessary kills brain cells it seems unavoidable either way and thus moderate use shouldn't be problematic.

Actually yes it is. Colour is subjective, which is the point being made. From earth it appears yellow. From space it will appear white.

"This is why the sun looks yellow from Earth (yellow equals white minus blue). In space, the sun appears white because there is nothing in between to scatter its white light."
http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_is_the_sky_blue
Wikis aren't always right, and color is not subjective (and spelt Color, no u ;-) ). Blue has shorter wavelengths than red, and the spectrum is well defined. http://science-edu.larc.nasa.gov/EDDOCS/Wavelengths_for_Colors.html

It's nothing to do with that Wiki or the spectrum being defined.

Yes colour is subjective - that is the whole point and why the sky appears blue on earth and not from space and why the sun appears yellow from earth and not from space.

Go and learn about Rayleigh scattering (or the Tyndall effect) which is a scientific explanation of light scattering and which explains why things look different colours from different places.

Look at pictures from telescopes in space. Sun is still yellow. No scattering involved.

Why Do We Perceive the Sun As Yellow?

Though humans perceive the sun as yellow when they look directly at it, it is actually white.

http://www.ehow.com/how-does_4910119_we-perceive-sun-as-yellow.html
The Sun is White Not Yellow

The reason the Sun looks yellow to us on Earth is that our atmosphere scatters light from the Sun; so the apparent color of the sun changes.

http://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/03/the-sun-is-white-not-yellow/
If the Sun is supposed to be producing white light, why does the sun appear yellow to the eye instead of white?

The short wavelengths (blue) of light from the sun are scattered by the atmosphere (which is why the sky appears to be blue.), leaving behind the longer (yellow-red) wavelengths.. From a high-flying airplane, or from the moon, the sun appears to be white.

It's not derailing though as pot was brought up by someone to begin with, and that's what we're debating. I'm not insulting him, just telling him to believe what he wants. How's that an insult?

@LT, beg to differ. Obama has put this country in a far worse situation then Bush did, he spent way more then Bush did and has controversial policies. That's not good...

sleeping kills brain cells, what makes you think weed doesnt?
He's right, although it is crucial the body gets 6-8 hours of sleep but too much yeah...not good lol. Apparently some folks think weed is good for you though.
