Player 1 wins all encounters when 2 moves become active at the same time. One exception is Kung Lao, whose spin and x-ray will win out regardless of position.

It is probably MK specific because most other fighters (from what I understand) have trades. As in, when two attacks become active on the same frame, both players take the hit. In MK9 only one player takes the hit.

In SCV they have clashes which mean if 2 moves hit at the same time both players would get nothing unless you dialed in another hit in which case the 2nd hit will hit.

according to Check this was balanced by the second player recovering faster defensively.

Player 1 has offensive advantage, Player 2 has defensive advantage.

Or it could be the case where it randomly switches every frame and it just happened that Somberness got a ton of player 1 wins in a row.
