Stage length affecting tournament play...

... right before your eyes. What I saw right now blew my mind and I will support either random select of the stage or the selection of one of the medium sized. Here's what happened. Riu48 vs REO. Playing on rooftop - the longest stage in the game. The last round Riu48 gains 1 bar of meter while approaching REO, REO iAGB's away and catches Riu with one and wins. Look at the distance Riu had to reach with the cartwheel... Inches away from hitting REO. I strongly believe that Riu48 played better than REO. I'm not trying to take away anything from REO, he played awesome, he did great, but, in my opinion, Riu48 played better and deserved to win. I strongly believe that stage length outfavoured Riu48.

Could be alot worse. In Soul Caliber you can get ringed out. Not theres a stage really biting you in the ass lol.

I feel every stage should be played, including Kratos. So what it moves? It's another dimension to add to someone's preparation for the [Liu Kang]TOURNAMENT[/Liu Kang]

You think with 12000 dollars on the line people want to play on a stage that can make you drop combos?

No, I mean you can't start down this path, what next, ban uppercuts because some characters because some have faster ones?

Then you must hate Soul Calibur. Stages being different hasn't been a serious factor in 2D fighters since Killer Instinct. Having a subtle difference in MK is ok.

Stage selection is part of the game. No, it's not something that 2D fighters has to legitimately deal with, but rather is more of a big deal in 3D fighters. But it's an interesting aspect, and does make an impact. Yes, longer stages benefit keepaway, and shorter ones benefit offensive characters, and darker stages make it more difficult to deal with invisibility. Doesn't mean it's something that needs to go.

Yeah in all honesty, if you want to be fair about this, random stage for first match and then have the loser have the ability to choose a different stage for rematches if they want (MLG had a weird rule for SCV which had the loser only able to re-random pick a stage which I think is wrong).

But it's not a clear problem. As long as either both players agree on the stage for game 1 or it's random it's fine.

Why is this even an issue? If you give even the littlest of fucks about the stage then pick one! If you don't like what your opponent picked, disagree with the map pick! depending on tourney rules, you can have the map disagreement cause a default map to be manually selected, and viola problem solved.

If people are using stages to their advantage now, then i suggest loser picks the stage and each player get a ban.

This way they can add this aspect to the game, just like the smash community ban 1 stage so people do not literally get messed up over this. For zoners, they might always want the rooftop day, So banning that would be the obvious choice. But there could be another good stage for the loser going into the match.

This will not solve Viola's problem. She needs a damage buff.
