Stage length affecting tournament play...

(MLG had a weird rule for SCV which had the loser only able to re-random pick a stage which I think is wrong)
this is the way it's been at every Soul Calibur tournament ever since the start of Soul Calibur tournaments. loser has the option to request a new random stage.

It's an odd rule then.....so the Loser gets the chance to reroll a disadvantage but can still get screwed by bad luck. I mean it's not as bad, but similar to, allowing a re-blind pick of characters after the first game, instead of locking in the winner.

player z and player x have a match. x's character has a really strong ring-out game, and it just so happened that the random stage selected was the smallest wall-less stage in the game. this is shitty news for z. after losing to ring-outs, z opts for a new stage. he may get a different wall-less stage (though there are only 2 in the game) or may get a larger stage with 3 walls, nearly nullifying player x's ring-out game. at the same time, if x picks the same strong-ring-out-game character and randomly got a completely walled stage the first game and lost, he may opt to random select in hopes of getting a better stage for his character to take advantage of his ring-out game with.

one thing i've always liked about SC4/5, you can never random select the same stage twice in a row, so if you find yourself in a situation like the one above, it's usually always in your favor to get a new stage.
