I'm going to take a shot at this. They put the characters' names on slips of paper, put them in a jar, pick out the number of characters for the number of entrants in the tournament. Bidding starts at $1 and goes up depending on who bids for that specific character drawn. Some dude (granted the game was newer when I saw this) paid like $30 to play as Ermac and I was ashamed of him(no disrespect bro, I guess I was just playing the game more than you, if you're on this site). People went nuts for Kung Lao when he was drawn too. Usually people didn't spend more than 30(and thats a stretch) to use said character in the tournament. I'd love to do something like this though. Got that room reserved.
Anyway I'm hyped that a major is actually in driving distance of me. I haven't been to a tournament since CH3 last summer. (IRL issues)
It's a seperate tournament. Character names are drawn from a hat and auctioned off. Highest bidder wins the character and uses them in the tournament. All the auction money is the prize pot.

Well then I have to respectfully decline. I hope you can find someone who accepts your offer though. I'm not made of money. I serve coffee for barley above minimum wage. I can't afford to get hustled by you and your buddy that I supposedly beat. GGA is too far of a trip for me to just pack up and go whenever I feel like all willy nilly. Its been a year since CH3, you guys have obviously leveled up since then.

It's called Tom Brady's living guide use it and you'll be good. what kind of world do we live in where a person cant spend 50$ on a friendly game. i hope you stay for the character auction tho so I can buy ermac from you and lose on purpose. IF there is an auction tourney, you won't outbid me for Ermac, or at the very least I'd make you pay an absurd amount for him. You don't know my situation and I'd ask you don't question my finances. I told you what kind of job I have, you think I don't have bills? I am looking forward to meeting you guys though. Lets not send any preconceived notions about one another over the net before that time though please.
