The Ghostface patch it's a turning point at MK1

Okay yeah just watched the KK and I can see what yall are talkin about with the changes, really cool stuff.
Ghostface as a horror icon has never done anything for me so I've always viewed his suggestion as hella bland, but I gotta admit that recruiting other MK characters into his team and having them use their special moves in a tag setup is a pretty cool kit ngl. Puts me in a Rambo mood with all the knifing and crawling.

Really looking forward to seeing T-1000 and Conan in action.

Great to see some of these changes. Did they mention anything about being in a practice room while the game is searching for an opponent?
No.

But I am convinced that if the community remains quiet, NRS is going to add practice rooms eventually.

If the community requests practice rooms and NRS implements them, I am pretending that I called/predicted/saw the change coming, so I can feel better about defending WB/NRS.

I have the best option select in the FGC.

It is how, I believe, we got Martian Manhunter in Injustice, Mileena in MKX (or was it 11?). As he was NOT a planned DLC character, and neither was she, both of this coming from multiple sources that worked at NRS. And won’t go into it too much, but I’m gonna take some credit for MMH, because I made that huge post about it and got a bunch of other MMH fans to basically spam request MMH be added to the game even pre-release across all SM platforms every single day. And back then, NRS not only frequented this site, they also frequently posted on here.

That said, things like DLC characters, the SP modes, cosmetics, etc are far different than balance patches. They of course take the comp communities feedback into consideration when it comes to balancing the game. However, people definitely seem to overestimate how much influence the competitive community has on NRS in general. Content creators and casuals will always have waaaay more of an impact than the comp community could ever dream of having
you can add Predator to that list too

that was the day NRS got my christmas wish on MKX

Cmon now you cant say you called it or predicted it if you hold that position every single time and defend nrs no matter what and always say just give it time it will get better lol.
Yeah, that’s false. I had big issues with MKX day one, was really vocal about them, and I’ve said numerous times that the game was not my cup of tea.

Less than two months into the game, I broke down exactly how I thought the neutral/footises were going to play out, and who would/wouldn't like the game.

I will support the people who go out and play games I don't love regardless, but I’ve never shied away from giving my direct opinion on a game/meta.

Not sure what you mean. Everything I said would happen has happened:
  • That after the initial Cyrax/Lao nerfs they’d start buffing other kameos
  • That the “forgotten” characters would eventually be buffed
  • That they’d start adding to characters’ toolkits to make them more interesting rather than just nerfing everything
  • That the designs would continue to be built for high-level players with lots of stances, conditional options, character-specific meta etc
The people who look foolish are the ones who claimed:
  • That the bottom tier would never get buffed
  • That it was going to be a nerf-only patch strategy where capabilities would only be taken away, meaning no chars would be interesting to play
  • That all new DLC would be PTW and easily used by low-level players to dominate matches
  • That we’d never get additional features like being able to jump-in to a replay because the devs only cared about casual players
  • Etc.

Max did a watch through of the ghostface Kombat Kast:

He echoes a lot of sentiments of people here, where the game is finally getting sick. The new sub kameo moves are excellent. As are the buffs sub got as a main character. The fact you can use each of his triple ice clones is so hype. The fact smoke can restand you for 1 bar of meter is also hype.
Very exciting patch let’s see them keep the momentum up. Let me lab while I match make, please NRS

I can only talk about me, but this is like a psychological warefare.
Like, we say they never do it, they are lazy, hate all of us except our money, so they can actually prove us wrong. NRS did a lot where people lost faith. Won't go in detail.
I show my hype for stuff like replay takeover. Big thumbs up, but I also first want to try it out, maybe it's bad implemented, don't know for sure jet.

I mean TT2 back in 2012, I was spoiled with practice mode while waiting for games. (It was simply called, warm-up room. Never knew, I wanted this feature so bad after T6.)
With MK11, I was hoping for it, nothing. Before release of MK1, I was writing and asking about it, nothing. Basically every content creator I follow, asked for this feature.
Still not in, while I feel like every modern fighting game has it since years, except one of the biggest money making franchises. At the same time, I do notice how the shop is getting filled with stuff. You see it kinda looks not good, don't you agree? (WB Greed I mean Games ... stupid thinking by the way, make people first want to stay in your game, before you bombard them with MTX ...)

NRS show me your effort, I show you my love :D
Live service game, MK1 is far from dead. Polish your product and people will be happy.
No MK fan wants to hate on MK just to hate it ... (some should look up, what passion can do.)

- keep on complaining with argues, for me, in my ears, it's always free feedback. Only snowflakes take all as an attack. Chill out and keep on fighting :joker:(Make it woke, you will go broke, I promise, especially when you think about the audience of this franchise ...)

I WILL EAT THIS GAME
they also got a clever way to put Kira and Kobra in the game lmao
This plus the Ashrah and Sareena changes gave me in a very cautiously optimistic state.

Some of us predicted that this is exactly what’d happen. The game keeps getting better with every patch.

Obviously some people are still affected by their first impression from a year ago, but imo this is not the same game as when everything was helicopter into XYZ.

This is a much better way to balance than just making a move do more damage/have more advantage or whatever and calling it a day.
There's no excuse for selling the world an unfinished beta that should have been Injustice 3.

I am happy that it's finally reaching a level worth being excited about that, in my opinion, MK11 never got anywhere close to as far as No Man's Sky-ish long term potential, but that doesn't undo doing the Destiny 2 and make us live through and pay for Curse Of Osiris and Warmind to get there.

They have two more DLC characters. This is obviously not the last patch.
i meant after this batch, i really don't want khaos reigns to be the last season when the game really just got started imo, in mkx when they did the overhaul patch, they moved into injustice 2 and never touched the game again, system issues that could've been touched imo.

It could also be that the reason why there are these many changes it's due the fact that ppl complained about it, don't you think?
The question now is for how long does NRS plans to keep doing this rather than moving to the next MK game, that's the biggest question rn, is it the khaos reign batch the last patch or there will be a season 3? more system overhauls and maybe add more to the existing characters? Or will they just finish Khaos Reigns and call it a day?

WB's CEO just recently said that WB Games is going to double down on only 4 titles. MK being one of them. So they're def not finished yet

Didn't Ed Boon said there will be more Kameos? It can't be over unless something crazy going on in the background. I mean, people didn't forget the MK11 situation. It was so long in limbo, do we still get stuff or not? It took them, like what, a year to officially tell us the game is done.
The communication issue, many here talk about. Just knowing stuff is coming, keeps me excited.
A stale state is the worst enemy of a live-service game, imo. (I like the ~60 days cycle.)

Seeing them actually making the game more complex (viewers will appreciate it) and not just tweak damage and frames (viewers won't notice), is a huge thumbs up from me.

My hype for T1000 is real, I can't wait to play him, even want to main him, if I like his gameplan and tools. Chop-chop arm attack brutality, slicing you in pieces? Let's GO!
Or like the finger. He is watching you with his cold face, tilting the head, pointing the finger in your face, and slowly stabs you in the eye, with his growing finger, the opponent is shaking to death and falls to the ground.
Flawless victory:joker: (<- imagine this is the Shao Kahn face, both laughing and smiling like maniacs. This forum needs more MK smilies.)

Some of the links dont open, says oops you dont have permission for that action.

Anyway the ones that do have nothing to do with what we are talking about.

Your "criticism" of mk x is you not liking the way the neutral plays out, fast paced rushdown, as you said in one of the links.

Thats a preferance issue, like for example someone saying i dont like assist fighters and naturally disliking mk1 because of it.

That has nothing to do with what we are talking about here. We are talking about the game, mk1 releasing in horrible state, tons of bugs, lack of content issues, characters being dry and lacking utility, kameos having lack of moves and diversity in move usage, horrendeouse microtransactions in a premium priced game, awfull progression system and the list goes on and on.

These are not preferance issues, these are major fuck ups by the developer and publisher, that you seem to have an excuse for every single time. And the fact that you had to go back 9+ years to find a situation where you "criticised" nrs says it all.

So yeah you dont get to say i called it bro.

To be fair to Crimson, he has criticized some of those issues, but in a rather subdued tone.

When people almost pay $120 for a game and the online gameplay barely functions for one month, people are irate. People do not want to hear whispers about the game's issues. People also do not want to hear how the game's issues will be fixed eventually.

Besides, the game and the community are separate entities. You can harshly criticize the game while supporting the competitive scene. I went to CEO, but I chose not to enter Mortal Kombat 1 because I thought the game was semi-complete and the meta was boring. Nonetheless, I supported King Jr. and watched most of the top 8 matches.

I praised NRS for Ghostface in this post, but I would still like to see more buffs, particularly to kameos like Darrius, Cyrax, and Stryker who are rarely used. I would also like to see a better balance between rush down and zoning characters. The great lengths to which the developers go to neutralize zoning and defensive characters is hilarious. Quan Chi is not allowed access to a standard low poke like he is Freddy or Zod. LOL.

And MKX had them as well. People seem to forget that MKX released promoting an online pro series with near-unplayable netcode, characters that were quite literally broken, and a meta that was one of the worst we've seen.

Remember the Raiden semi-infinite, or Denzell almost winning a major by keeping someone stuck in a corner with Fisticuffs just swinging over and over?

The revisionist history is is crazy.

No one is making excuses for MK1's launch problems. But for someone who joined TYM in 2023 to say that we didn't have criticisms of the state of MKX is crazy. Some of us just criticize constructively rather than dev bashing and trying to tear the competitive scene down while doing it.

I like how the thread that's primarily praising the direction of the game still has people being negative about old versions of the game that don't exist anymore.

Oh well. Some people just can't be POSITIVE!
