Mortal Kombat 1 (2023) Pre-Order Beta Dates: Aug. 18-21

Meanwhile, Xbox waves "hello" as they're extremely customer friendly and provide value for their customers in so many different ways. I keep telling everyone, Microsoft has it together this generation, and PlayStation is not what it used to be.
I couldn't agree more. Unfortunately I have a penchant for those 3rd person/action-adventure/cinematic games Sony does well and I bought a Series X controller day 1 to try it and after years of using DS4 it was a nightmare. I like my two analog sticks in the middle but the real deal-breaker was the D-Pad. I tried to play MK11 with it and I couldn't do an instant forward jump. It only worked if I was walking forward and jump then but I couldn't win an air-to-air with it. Dualsense felt a bit weird first after the DualShock 4 but I got comfortable with it eventually.

I'll be the first to admit that Sony and Playstation are nowhere near to the glory days of the PS4 era and during these two and a half years I only bought Horizon Forbidden West and God of War Ragnarok for PS5 but the only interesting thing XBox has shown so far is Hellbade 2. I just can't stand first person shooters or first person action-adventure games, I like to be able to see my character and surroundings plus blue is my favorite color while I'm not a fan of green so here we are...

Idk about Xbox but I don't think Sony lets you cancel digital preorders
I've done it many times, the only questionable thing in this situation is beta but I don't think that changes anything either becase:

"If you've paid for pre-ordered content on PlayStation Store but have changed your mind about the purchase, you can request a refund. PlayStation Store refunds can be issued for pre-ordered content, as long as the request is made before the release date, or within 14 days of purchase, and the content has not started to download or stream.

Please note, if you have started to download the main part of the order, you will not be able to request a refund. Please be aware that downloads will happen automatically if auto-downloads are enabled."

This is from official playstation site and it only talks about the main part of the order which beta isn't. I have also done some research on places like reddit and it seems beta really doesn't affect this.

I'm gonna have to take the L and pre-order a 3rd version digitally on PS5 too I guess. I've emailed Gamestop multiple times this week and they gave me nonanswers of "you should get it Thursday or Friday". Then I call them directly this morning and they say "We don't have anymore codes for PS5, only Xbox. Maybe we'll get some tomorrow"

On both Xbox and PlayStation you can. For PlayStation specifically, details here.

... but the real deal-breaker was the D-Pad.
It's interesting how everyone responds to Controllers differently, or perhaps it's more accurate to say how Controllers respond differently to everyone. I really like the Hybrid D-Pad on the Xbox (Series) Controller. Surprisingly, the Faceted D-Pad on the Xbox Elite Series 2 is fantastic and hands down the best D-Pad I've ever used for fighting games thus far.

The problem for me is the subtle form factor changes of the Xbox (Series) Controller over the Xbox (One) Controller have either given me or aggravated what I suspect to be tendonitis. After using the Controller for about 20 to 40 minutes, I have what feels like inflammation in my right forearm, and sometimes what feels like bruising on my right palm just below the right index finger. It's pretty uncomfortable.

The Xbox (One) Controller doesn't do this, so I bought an Elite Series 2 as it's the same form factor. I absolutely love this Controller, but sadly, I'm finding that after about 1 - 1.5 hours of play, my right wrist starts hurting. I'm guessing the extra weight of this Controller?

I expect I'll need to return it, and stick with the Xbox (One) Controller. Unto itself that's fine, save that they're discontinued and when the ones I have finally conk out, I'm not sure what options will be available to me. Either 3rd party I guess or I'll need to suck up some pain and try to change how I play.

Ah. As I recall, Horizon Forbidden West is on PlayStation 4, and God of War: Ragnarok is, according to the developer, a PlayStation 4 game that was enhanced for PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 5. So basically, they're both cross gen games as so many games have been through the 9th gen.

Having said that, if shooters aren't your thing, PlayStation may indeed be the better fit regardless of their flaws. I find both consoles have loosely reclaimed their identities from the 7th gen: So Xbox is the console platform of choice for shooters, western RPGs, western fighting games, and startegy games. PlayStation is the choice for action/adventure, Japanese RPGs, and general fighting games.

if you wanna try an ass cheap, high quality xbox controller that is great for MK, look no further than here: HORI HORIPAD Pro Controller Schwarz für Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, PC, Xbox One | MediaMarkt

it is hard wired (no usb) and the triggers have very low resistance which is weird first, but its actually great for blocking. sensitivity is adjustable.

Physical from Best Buy for me earlier this week, PS5. They sent me the code in like an hour or so after the preorder lol.

Yup, I've called the Gamestop from which I pre-ordered twice (physical ps5 copy), and the employees have no idea what's going on with beta codes. They said wait until Friday (today) for the email, or look in my "active offers" in my Gamestop account. Neither option has worked, so I've emailed WB games support.

I'm not hopeful they will help. This is frustrating :(

tweet their support, they are usually very active. also if you ordered physical, you need a WB account.

Thanks, man. I don't "tweet" lol, but I did attach my WB account info in the email I sent them. We'll see what happens.

Good luck to everyone else getting their beta issues sorted! I'm just glad the game comes out in less than a month.
