What are your favorite looking moves in fighting games?

Curious to hear what everyone else thinks about the moves in fighting games. I think one thing that keeps drawing me back to MK11 in particular is how cool some of the attack animations are, they look really crisp and some moves like Sub-Zero F24 really convey a sense of impact much better than most other games in my opinion. I think any of the moves that has D'Vorah making use of her ovipositors look really cool, she is always doing something with her arms which looks really cool like crossing them in her 21222. Scorpion's chain moves, especially his F32 looks and feels really badass to use. I personally think only DBFZ has moves that feel as great to land on people as some of the moves in MK11. So what are your guys' favorite moves to see in fighting games?

Just in general I really like how moves look in Virtua Fighter 5. The characters all seem to have fairly unique animations with distinctive fighting styles, and it really shows through the animation. Watching highlights of that game feels like watching a well choreographed kung fu movie.

For MK11 I really like Raiden's Super Bolt move animation, and his Lightning storm/float stance animation. They both do a good job of conveying that Thunder God feeling. It's a shame neither move is super useful.

I think there are lots of extremely great looking moves and strings in the franchise. Who didn't love Kung Lao's Throw/Throw Brutality in Mortal Kombat XL, for example? There's far too many overall for me to list.

Mileena's Stabbyscotch, and heck, lots of her movements and attacks are really well done in terms of style and visuals.

3D Krusader
Urien's metallic sphere is always pleasing. Potemkin's heat knuckle. Mileena's chain grabs in X (shame they didnt come back, could've been butt krushing blow just like Sindel and Kitana). And I'm not too familiar with it but I think Janemba's lv. 3 where he just moves his finger and green shards fly out at the opp. And most of Broly's supers in Fighter Z. Just look so beautiful

I'll never forget the first time I saw Kilik's Heaven Monument, it was also the first time I ever laid eyes on SoulCalibur.

Q's neutral grab in 3rd Strike.
Q's Deadly Double Combination.
Bison's Ultra 2 in SFIV.
Bison's EX Stomps in SFV.
Hayabusa's Izuna Drop.

Literally everything Slayer does in Guilty Gear.

I refuse to look at the screen whenever a fatal blow goes off including my own… which is the opposite of what you’re looking for.

There are times where I think impaling myself on a large cactus would be more pleasant than watching one of these abhorrent animations again. And yet here I am, still playing like a giant hypocrite.

Noob
Raiden's tp looks very stylish
Same with Noob when he's doing shadow attacks
Lao's Z gesture during Z Hat
Sheeva's B3 overhead reminds me of Undertaker's Big Boot
Rain's kicks especially the overhead in 134 are so well done, with water animations as well
Female character in heels (especially Asian) automatically looks good at everything
Everything Reptile does

I always love wrestling moves and suplexes.
Yeah I really like to see King matches because his multithrows are just regular wrestling moves but once you know the stakes being caught in them is very intense. Also the giant swing is really cool to see.

I always loved "get off me" moves in fighting games, this is one of the earliest ones i knew and it's super powerful and awesome to execute, the sound effect and his battle cry as it happens is 10/10. k9999 <3

Plus every single move this motherfucker does^
pure art
Yeah I'm definitely thinking of MKX Sub Zero's ice burst that looks like such a great get-the-hell-away-from-me attack. Who is that character? I don't think I am familiar with them.

No, they’re poorly animated choppy
pixar shorts that interrupt gameplay. There’s an entire YouTube channel that rose to popularity deconstructing how bad NRS handles animations.

There are some things they do well like lighting and static art design. Voice acting when they’re not hiring Ronda Rousey and Dmitri Vega. Animation isn’t one of them.

Are there any animations in any fighting games you do like, though? The thread is asking for those.

Just curious, why do you spend so much time with MK11? You seem to really dislike the game.

Time huh, Thanks for the Tip
Some of you people on this site are ridiculous

The Thread is literally labeled "What are your favorite looking moves" and some of you go off talking how much you hate MK11's Fatal Blows, lol

I’ve already invested a lot of time in the game. I’m pretty good, and I have results. I think the string based system of fighting games is much better than the normal - links the SF community is so elitist about. Mkx and Mk9 were some of my favorites. But fatal blows are downright toxic and it’s the only thing that has ever made me legit rage. Why would you want to waste 5 to 10 seconds of your life every match watching these horrible animated shorts? I don’t care if it’s been 2 years or 10 years. I mean… Find me one YouTuber who has spoken positively about them. I enjoy fighting good players, what I don’t enjoy is trying to time a meaty just right and then bam… Pixar animated short. If you’re playing on a trash connection it’s literally safer to back off your opponent who has FB even when they don’t have meter.

Im sharing my opinion without breaking any TOS and doing so respectfully.

Favorite animation in fighting games is sabrewulf’s arcing claw in KI.

How did you feel about Xrays? Personally I like KBs (which are just modern Xrays anyway tbh) much better. I feel like just like fatalities the Xrays and FBs lose their charm after you've seen them 20 times and they can be very annoying indeed. I've been saying for a while that fatalities should be taken out and brutalities should replace them so people can't BM you in the finish him.

I actually agree with you. Fatalities used to be secret and inputted really quickly. It has since turned into a 10-15 second period where you can T-bag your opponent and then make them sit through another 15 second animation of being riped apart. It's no longer hype or interesting and just adds to the toxicity. Brutalities are the natural modern replacement. X-rays were rarely used outside of closing rounds and if you were blocked or whiffed it, you were seriously fucked and had no way to defend yourself or interrupt most gaps. Fatal Blows were Boon's direct answer to people not using X-rays as much as he wanted to see them. This was documented in the lead up to MK 11's release. If it wasn't his idea, he definitely approved of it. Us competitive players begged them to make them go away (just for the round mind you) on whiff or block. NRS refused. I have always taken the high ground when it came to the nonsense in their games, but Fatal Blows... man, these things made something in me snap.
