So yeah people in general hate Jade. And they are right.
Jade HAS to be played frustratingly. It's by design, sadly.
They usually talk about D2 but mashing D2 is a result of a number of things.
I did some research and here's some reasons, consequences, and some understanding about why people hate her and how to work around it.
Getting the obvious out of the way: With Delia she's finally playing the MK11 Meta of "Oh-HO! Will I end my string in THIS or in THAT!!" which, if you think about it, is not at all different in concept from the MKX schmicksup games that people at the time hated so much. What makes MK11 even more frustrating at times is that you can walk back for free and then corner escape with armour on several stages, and while defending is severely disadvantageous in this game, having an invincible wakeup is still irritating to say the least. I mean, if your character has an actual mid invincible wakeup. Note: Jade does not. It hits mid, but you can just duck under it with a d3.
How To Beat Jade #1: Always d3 her on wakeup. She has to guess on wakeup against a meaty D3 into another D3, mid or Throw. True mixup. If she rolls past your D3, you can throw her. If she U3s, you'll punish. If she neutral jumps, D2.
I don't know if entirely different people made the characters but it kind of feels like that to me. Those who were here for the Entire Week they offered us to Beta Test a WHOLE TRIPLE A game (let that sink in for a moment. A week to Beta Test a game this huge.), remember that Scorpion, Baraka, Jade and Skarlet were the beta characters. The person who made Scorpion knew how to make hitboxes on moves. Scorpion cannot whiff. Ever. If you try to jump his meterburn teleport, if you try to D4 his F3, if you press on him you're fucked for a crushing blow or just get launched for 1 bar and a hefty chunk of your hp. People are in heavy denial about how good Scorpion is. There is Kabal who is basically Jade just better. More range, better hitboxes, better zoning, a fullscreen 20f launcher, he's a god.
Jade on the other hand, whiffs within her own hit ranges. All her Staff Normals are free-to-jumpable, death on block and have shitty frame data across the board. B2 is 10f at least so that's good, it can punish things many characters on the cast can't. But in the actual neutral (not that too many characters actually have to play the neutral, other than Jade herself) she can't stick out her buttons or she'll get blown up for it and their frame data is far too bad to actually use them pre-emptively.
How To Beat Jade #2: Learn at which tiny dots on the screen she actually hits and jump, duck, backdash her. She will whiff for 40+ frames and you'll get to punish.
Jade is annoying to fight against because even though she is forced to play "honestly" in a game that gives 0 fucks about neutral, most of her normals are trash. Save for B3 and D2, ad the fact that B2 can punish even some of the lesser pushbacks of the game. But then her damage is the worst in the entire cast.
How To Beat Jade #3
The above is the reason, then, why Jade's overall bad design makes you HAVE TO stick to what little good tools she has.
They are actually good, though, but boring, frustrating, poorly designed rushed nonsense showing that they care very little about Jade at NRS so they probably had an intern with directives do it.
D2 is 40+ frames of recover on whiff so just bait it out and blow her up.
Air Glaive gets jumped if used recklessly and you get anti-aired. It's not as good as people thought it was but she needs it badly because
D1 is t-rex as fuck. You get literally d1mash thrown if you try to play that game. You have to D1-parry on block and hope it isn't Cage or someone with a low starter.
Outdamage her, read when she's about to B3 and backash because she has to dial that string, it does not cancel on whiff and it's really bad on whiff.
Is she a good character? Yes.
Is she as good as some people think? Helnaw.
