Why is the Nrs community so salty and toxic?

trufenix

bye felicia
The more satisfying the win, the more salt inducing the loss. MK has more means to rub your opponents face in a loss than most games and NRS just loves it. It's designed to hype people up. The alities, the cinematics, the random kbs, the secrets, the trolling. Strong reactions are not by accident.

It makes you feel like a stone cold bad ass when it works out in your favor, but when you lose... well.

Granblue fantasy, SFV, Tekken 7......what do all these games have in common? They sold less than MK. Mk is the most popular fighting game franchise and attracts more gamers which means you get ALL types of gamers. ALL popular online games have toxicity. The more popular the more toxic. It's not specific to NRS. That's why people in the thread seem insensitive bc this has been around for years and it is strange to hear gamers complain about this honestly.

I've played many games over the years. And MK isn't even close to the amount of toxicity as other online games. If you guys have ever played a MOBA, COD or HALO (which is the game that birthed t bagging btw) it would EASILY replace MK as the most toxic. If Mario Kart 8 had in game voice chat it would beat MK by a landslide in toxicity.

Now just bc it exists in all games doesn't mean you should like it or it shouldn't bother you. Many ways you can deal with it. But as long as gaming becomes more social, you will continue to see more hatemail, t bagging, shouting, slurs, etc.
In regards to the FGC, MK is the worst BY far....UMVC had no where near toxicity that MKX and MK11 have.. It is what it is

But that's only bc MK is more popular. If the roles were reversed and UMVC was more popular than MK then it would be more toxic. My point is that it's not just an MK thing

We cant use popularity as a excuse....UMVC was extremely popular.... Once you get to Demi-god level, its no randoms and people who don't know what their doing..Most of the people at higher levels are hardcore FGC heads....You get to the high levels in other FG's, and its not that the same toxicity...Literally the FIRST thing I noticed from from a UMVC background was the difference in how player's act online

It's not an excuse. You wanna paint it as an only MK thing. That's what I'm disagreeing with. And yes....MK is way more popular than MVC. Not trying to shit on MVC but it is what it is. I have seen alot worse and this is nothing new.

Just because more people buy a game doesnt mean its automatically more toxic. Tons of people only bought this for a story and most casuals dont even have the chance to be toxic. Most likely theyre losing their games to fgc forum members if they even touch online. And also this is in no way comparable to other online games like mobas with integrated chats. Team games are inherently toxic because one person singles someone out and turns the entire team against them to cover their ass. In mk you have to personally take the time to send the message through the system, the only witnesses are you and the other person. Definately way more personal

I teabag when I do something amazing midgame, but never at the end. Tbagging is like the only way to raise your hands and cheer in game when you do something cool.

BUT as salty and toxic as the NRS community is, you see what happened at the Capitol building lol? One group is significantly more toxic and salty than NRS community will ever be...

Again I have to ask the question if some you have actually played other fighting games. Because if you combined all the communities you listed and compared them to NRS games they still wouldn't be as toxic as NRS games. I've never been teabagged in granblue, and I can probably count the amount of times I was teabagged in SFV on my hand. Both of these games I've played thousands of matches in. So if you have played some/all of the fighting games you listed, I would invite you to remember the amount of times things you deem or others would deem toxic have happened to you and compare them with NRS games.
I don't even think i've ever had someone send me a hate message in any other fighting game I've played. In NRS titles, I've had people message me with hate when I win or lose, people jump on the mic and curse me out whether I win or lose, people send me friend requests to say more hateful things cuz I changed my message settings due to how many messages I was getting and it was the only way they could be toxic. I feel like a lot of you are just saying get some thick skin as opposed to realizing that the NRS games are generally toxic cesspools, thick skin or not. Thats not to say that every single person is toxic cuz I have met some great people but hell even my mom would comment on my demeanor when I used to play MK heavy.

MK is the worst by far but early days of Tekken 7 were pretty close. Not now all the sub humans have moved onto apex or fortnight or whatever lol.
But as that Russian hockey player says "Is just a game why you have to be mad"

Yeah I mean whether or not people should be offended is a whole other discussion, that’s something that should definitely be subjective. But questioning if NRS games are toxic or even tryna diminish their toxicity by bringing up whole genres is where I have an issue. I mean I’m keeping it to fighting games, if people have to bring up other genres then I think that in and of itself should tell you something lmao.

Homie I'm a gamer. But my love is fighting games. My first fighting game was SF2 champion edition on Sega. Since then I have played almost every fighting game you can imagine. All MKs, Street fighter, MVC, Virtua fighter, Fighters destiny, clay fighter, soul caliber, Mace: The dark age, DOA, guilty gear, tekken and probably more I'm forgetting. If you look at my posts you should realize I'm not disputing that you get less hatemail/t bagging in other fighters. You definitely get more in MK. What I am saying is MK has become a more popular franchise over the years. It's easy to pick up nature and fatality culture has attracted lots of people and MK for the most part is some gamer's first ever fighting game.

I guess my question for y'all is have you played any other games that aren't fighters? Bc if you did you would realize that MK isn't as bad as others. There are far worse. For example I would get the same amount of hatemail on UFC games. They are easy to get into and started to get popular. And like the others said before, a game like FIFA alot of people play, which includes assholes in that group of people.

So again I'm saying it's not just an MK thing. The game is very popular and with that comes alot of people who are salty and love to send hatemail.

Fighting games work differently to most other genres, in that things get less toxic as the level of play gets higher instead of the usual case of vice versa.

At low level it's a hoard of scrubs who watch TrueUnderDawg and Super, jump on WiFi then send you with hate mail for using the same move too much, spamming, and picking a "cheap" character etc.

Then at higher levels of play you hardly see this. And people just want someone who can give them a run for their money. And they're less inclined to be asshats because they want you to stay on for a longer set because that's how you actually get better.

That's why our online tends to be more toxic than others. We have more casuals that think they're entitled to wins than other FGs, purely because it's a super popular intellectual property that transcends the actual fighting game community.

I will say we are not as bad as the DoA community though. And I fucking love DoA as a game (sans the netcode)

The least toxic communities are KI and Battle for the Grid. Purely because most scrubs have left the game at this point and those remaining are just glad to see any other player there

Facts....I played Morrigan/Phoenix In UMVC and I didnt get 1/3 of the hate messages I get from playing Jade...Even when I played Kitana( when she was low tier early) in MKX, I would get more hate messages than maining Phoenix.. I get teabagged EVERY match in MK lol

Ok cool haha I wasn’t sure if you did or didn’t play lots of fighting games but yeah the point I was trying to make was that with NRS, I think it’s less to do with the popularity and more to do with the mechanics of the game and the people it attracts. I have played other games and I guess the most toxic of the one I’ve played would be apex legends because people have hate messaged me or cursed me out over the mic. But that still isn’t as normal an occurrence as it is in NRS games, and at this point I’ve probably put more hours into apex then mk11. I also think that again it’s weird to bring up other genres because fighting games will have the most similar features we can compare amongst one another, like sharing common instances in which toxic things can occur. Different genres of games won’t have those similarities. For example it’d make more sense to compare fatigue in runners who compete in a 200m race and 400m race than it would to compare these sprinters fatigue with a basketball players. The 200 and 400 are different events but they are still sprints. Whereas not only is basketball a completely different sport, we also have a lot of different things to consider as compared to track and field.

MKX was the only game I've ever played where someone wished cancer on my whole family because I won lol. Though I was styling on him with dragon fire kang that was enough to drive anybody to insanity lol.
To be fair the next day he msgd and apologised.

I think Savage8-8 and most of the members here pretty much hit it right on the money. We see a popular product but others just sees that as windows of opportunities.

Trash talking, troll baiting, reactions, or some scumbag pro player that will try to say anything to make you feel inferior, etc. Whatever it is, they want some form of satisfaction and they'll take advantage of a massive following from a huge franchise if they have to. Look at what happened with the friday the 13th game.

The streaming business is also hot right now and trying to milk cash off of others reactions would be icing on the cake to them. If you've been spotting a lot of wannbe would-be streamers in online sessions lately, chances are that's pretty much why they're on.

It is truly something watching people list their own fighting game resumes as credentials in a discussion about which community is more toxic. I personally feel that my long and complicated relationship WEAPONLORD and CLAYFIGHTER makes me the authority.

You know, I never actually played Clayfighter, but I wanted to.
1 and 2 are basically unplayable beyond mashing, and that's coming from a certified fan of the series. CF64 1/3 and the Tournament edition were actually built using the KI Gold engine, so they had some real gameplay, but they were released on N64 so the animation sucked and the backgrounds were all 3d and stupid. All the games have tremendous voice talent though, Interplay was not fucking around when it came to that.
