I don't really know Rebel, but just in the first minute holy crap he seems really good. His technique/fundamentals are spot on. Great vid, thanks for posting.

Yeah it is nice to see some pros pick up Raijin. Since everyone is playing TW nowadays, and Raijin is kind of irrelevant :‘(

Why have people switched back to TW? It's been awhile since I've tried keeping up with in depth character stuff in MK (I've been trying to learn Virtua Fighter and raise a baby. Both are fun but difficult.).

TW is officially the best variation again. Mobility off the charts, and the stagger potential of B12 is much better because of the 50/50 (OS-able but much harder than Raijin), and then there’s the poke~storm cell game, not to mention TW has decent unbreakable damage even without the armour breaker anyway. I’ve seen someone say TW has no losing MUs too. Raijin has to rely on F3~DF2 and F32 for optimal general offense which is low risk but unfortunately low reward. I can’t say for sure if this is the reason since I’m not good enough as a player to judge but I’ve been talking with other Raiden players on Discord and most share the consensus that TW is the best variation right now

EDIT: Honestly I don’t really agree personally that Raijin is now irrelevant, and I really think it does better in certain MUs, but at the moment it’s a case of TW can live without Raijin but Raijin can’t really survive without TW to cover some bad MUs.

This is pretty long and I’m honestly not sure if I should put this here, but there’s some nuggets of Raiden gameplay from a Russian player who eventually made it to grand finals. I haven’t finished it yet, but I really think it’s nice that there are still many online tournaments being held. I highly recommend the PlayStation Open Series (at least the EU side, I haven’t watched the US side just yet) to everyone and it’s a good place to check out high level gameplay, not to mention the character variety is pretty nice too (Arnkratos won one of those weeks using only Robocop, definitely recommend watching).

Look out for the players called Serious HItman, he just won grand finals with Raiden, using both Raijin and TW

Hmm, after looking at the grand finals itself I’m not sure what to say. Lots to gimmicky play from Raijin and his opponent is clearly not very well versed in the MU. He also relies a lot on D2s In anticipation of throws. Not sure if this is a very good example of how to play Raiden well but he took the tournament so GGs I guess

It's interesting how he does F2 D2 to finish combos. I guess it then works if they breakaway? If so definitely I'm going to use it, I always relied on J3 BF3

It’s the optimal way to end combos. Does more damage than Raijin and unbreakable. Check the other videos in this thread. They showcase it better

Thing is, ending with F2 121 BF3 if just soooo satisfying ;3 Shame it works only on men
