Kitana General Discussion

Stephanie confirmed that some characters have variation specific armor breaking moves, and Kitana is one of them.
So she has it in v1 and v2. Nothing for v3
I’m having a hard time understanding why they are implementing a meta changing mechanic that doesn’t apply to some characters

All characters have it. It’s just some characters will have it universally while some will have it based on variation. Kinda dumb to me but it’s still a good buff for kitana, especially fan fare.

I meant to say variation, still, I don’t like the idea that I have to use a specific variation in order to use a game mechanic

Definitely a buff for Fan-fare yet an indirect nerf for Highborn in my opinion.

Aside from jumping kick into ass, I fail to see how the anti-breakaway system offers any benefits to Highborn because all of Highborn's combos are on the ground and inescapable anyway.
Like I said, short hop ass after a d2, or jump kick ass after said stab KB
It's not a common scenario, but it is an option we have.

what you guys do in the kabal match up I personally don't like it and usually switch sindel for it but interest how you guys approach it.

Your circumstances are dire!

I think it's a great MU. Both play neutral equally well (Kabal maybe a little better) and kitana can check him with air fans if he gets too zoning happy. Although I do think that one advantage Kabal has over her, is his staggers.

I have no trouble. I just zone him and if he tries to walk back and bait whiffs, throwing fans takes care of that.

Highborn counter his zoning super hard too

I wouldn’t really call it a nerf. It’s more like a tool that Highborn doesn’t really benefit from. It’s not like it hinders her gameplay or anything like that.

Well, that is the issue. It is not a tool that Highborn benefits from, but other characters do which may negatively affect match ups.

Admittedly, the anti-breakaway moves shown thus far appear to be rather slow, namely Scorpion's and Sub Zero's, and hence primarily usable after krushing blow d+2. So I am not yet convinced that this mechanic will alter the meta as much as NRS claim, which they may surreptitiously already know. The implementation is merely an appeasement to the critics, but we shall see next week. I am certain a handful of characters will have really good ones.

Don't like half the combos in Highborn leave people standing anyways? That was why it was so good before this implementation alongside its pressure. Aside from throws and that one KB that launches it doesn't seem like its going to affect Highborn.

Im my speculation, the only time this new armor breaking mechanic will matter for Fanfare is actually in a combo, because to hell if I'm doing it on a wakeup attack instead of whiff punishing. That square wave is like -22 on block. Screw that.

Actually. Kitana Fanfare got HUGE buff. You can no longer jump at her on a minus string. Before people would do a slightly minus string and jump because they secretly knew Kitana couldnt hit them out of the air with any of her dial a strings. She technically couldnt meaty if someone tried to wakeup jump or delay wakeup without having to read EXACTLY when they would wake up. With "leave now" being safe on block you can use it as a meaty or as a pressure tool after they try to jump at whatever you throw at them. Low key, thats all I really needed so Im good now.

Edit: I was using the other F2 dial a string to read jumps for full combo punish but it had a flawless block gap so that was no good.

unbreakable option select for huge damage lol. SUPER EASY TOO:

Fan-Fare

ji2 b231 lift ji3 ass (hold 3)
  1. if they breakaway after ji3 you get 45% and a kb.
  2. if they don’t, you get 30%.
Highborn

ji2 b231 gutted kb ji ass (hold 3)
  1. if they breakaway after the gutted kb you get 50% and another kb.
  2. if they don’t, you get 30%.
fanfare is even more consistent now. highborn just got lowkey crazier? idk. you can make people waste their bars on purpose now, get ridiculous corner carry, and consistent unbreakable dammy now?!

ASS FTW!

edit:

to add, if your able to hit confirm ji3 ass it resets the zoning neutral for kitana. it creates a deadzone for fans, sais, & anti-airing if the opponent decides to jump at you. so amazing
