Do you think the DLC price is fair?

Is Kombat Pack 1 worth $40?

Simple yes or no question.

I have to say no. The base game was 60 bucks. This accounts for a lot of characters, all of the online modes, the story mode, the krypt... ya know, all of the content in a game. I would certainly agree that the base game of MK11 is worth 60 dollars. KP1 is 40 dollars. One would assume that for 2/3 the price it would have 2/3 the content. I don't see how 6 characters and skin packs equate to being as valuable as 2/3 of the entire freaking game. I feel like an idiot for buying the 100 dollar edition of MK11 and I will never buy a season pass from NRS again.

The MYTH that modern games need predatory DLC practices to be successful is just that... a myth. I've talked about it a lot but Modern Warfare 2019 / Infinity Ward has rolled out a shit ton of quality free content that addresses complaints the Call of Duty community had with the launch version of Modern Warfare. Having not spent a cent over 60 dollars, I have everything every other Modern Warfare player has aside from cosmetics. Call of Duty has more success than Mortal Kombat could ever dream of financially, and they are not only just getting by, they're getting rewarded for turning it around and treating their players right. It proves that consumers can forgive companies, Black Ops 4 had terrible DLC practices, but Modern Warfare fixed it. The only paid DLC (aside from cosmetics) is the remastered MW2 campaign, which albeit overpriced, is something people have wanted for YEARS. I also don't agree that WB is COMPLETELY to blame over NRS. WB published The Witcher 3, in which all of the DLC was very fairly priced and content rich. Not to mention Infinity Ward didn't get cucked by ACTIVISION. Jedi Fallen Order was published by EA, all single player, no micro transactions.

I don't give a fuck how this compares to other fighting game DLCs. Them being shitty too doesn't make this one any less predatory to the consumer. To be clear, this thread isn't a knock on the quality of MK 11 as a game, just simply how NRS chooses to go about their DLC. MK 11 undeservingly catches a ton of flack for the game it's self, but nobody seems to think 2/3 of the price of a full game is a little silly for 6 fucking characters. It's like if the launch version of KI 2013 with 6 characters costed 40 dollars. It costed 20! and that is for the full game modes plus the characters, it's not 40 dollars with the prerequisite of having to already have spent 60 to access it.

Anyways, I guess I just made this cause it's quarantine time and I'm bored. It just irritates me that we as the gaming community have let it get to this point.

You are forgetting one thing though. 1 week early access for every character released. That's pretty big imo. Not saying price is fair because of that but it's very important to some people. Even I have pre-ordered more expensive edition of games just to get beta access and/or 3 day early access at release. Kombat pack does get on sale very often too.

The price is fine to me, and I make average Joe money. I am no stranger to spending a lot of money on hobbies (played drums since I was 14), so maybe I am just numb to it. I feel like I got my $40 worth from the Kombat Pack, so in the end, I guess that is all that matters.

I think it's harsh. Usually a DLC fighter should be 5 bucks, with the pack getting a discount. Thus, a Kombat Pack of 6 chars should cost about 20-25 bucks.

I didn't look at it from this perspective, if early access is important to you, that eases the pain of the 40 bucks a little bit.

I think 20 bucks straight up is way more reasonable for the Kombat Pack, just through simple math mostly.

I suppose it would be easier if you were already desensitized to spending a lot of money on hobbies, that could help for sure.

From a gameplay perspective, absolutely not. I didn't even buy a single one of them, they're all that boring and linear. Out of all the characters in the game only one clicks for me.
It's even worse if you don't like how they play. I didn't even mention that because it's more subjective if you like the character or not. I tried to be objective in my argument and base it more around the (lack of) content in the pass. I was kind of blind to how bad Injustice 2's DLC practices were because Injustice 2 Sub-Zero is my favorite NRS character ever.

Paid Dlc is never fair. NEVER.
The Witcher 3's DLC was absolutely fair. Hearts of Stone was $10 and WELL worth it. Blood and Wine added an entirely new map. These are very legitimate expansions and proportional to the cost. The expansions for Bioshock Infinite and The Last of Us fall in this category as well. Batman: Arkham City and Origins had great story DLC as well.

It only frustrates me because there isn't anything inherently wrong with DLC and expansions because it HAS been done right. They just did it wrong imo

Yes, if you're able to get it on sale that is a decent price. Still doesn't account for 1/3 of the game's content at 1/3 the price but its much better.
Agreed. On PC (Steam version), in time, you can find it cheaper on key reseller sites as well. I did that for Kombat Pack 1 for Mortal Kombat X.

Right now, on G2A, you can get Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack for $16.56 Canadian. Currently, on Steam, it's $49.99 Canadian.

It's 9.30€ on eneba. You can find them this cheap for consoles too on sites like that.

Man, I count Hearts of Stone as a separate game with the story better than the main game’s. I was talking about DLC characters.

What's the point of a random Krypt?

I was just going to vote "No" and was not going to comment, but out of all of the shitty practices game companies make nowadays this is one of the worst. Not betas and stuff, that's great, but the one week early access is such bullcrap. If the content is ready for people to use the 4 of April, then it was planned to be made on that date, and it was planned to be ready for release for that day. They are just releasing late for the people who don't pay, it's faked exclusivity. You are just paying because an executive had the -brillant- idea of saying "lets make people pay extra to get this on release date, but let's word it differently so they'll do it anyway".

I broke my "no season pass" rule because it was MK, I'll never do it again. The content was lazy, very disappointing and way too overpriced.

It is even worse when you look at how they handled the reveal of the content : They made the Kombat Pack available to purchase while some of the DLC characters weren't even officially announced yet ! And one of the "clues" (and by that I mean the chainsaw sound effect at the end of the "Kombat Pack not entire reveal" video) for the remaining characters to be revealed was a misleading one, since there was no chainsaw user in any of the characters in the KP. So if anybody bought the KP for Ash Williams (like me lul), then "fuck you and thank you, come again". Yeah I know it was just a sound effect in a video so no official announcement so it's not illegal. but still fuck you WB.

And also we're paying for content... locked behind a grind wall. Because all the fucking gear needs to be unlocked from the towers, and that's BORING.

They did everything wrong, that's impressive.
