.... they mostly come at night. Mostly.
Players are reporting more crashes after The Joker patch. Also no mention of DX12, cross-play... nothing.
oh my, and here we go again , each new dlc/patch for PC platform seems as a nightmare to deal with afterwards, fuck that ! hehe :p

Not everyone, and less so the more recent ones.

The big problems as I recall was more around May until mid-to-late summer.

And it's still 100% night and day over Mortal Kombat X at this point in the game's life.

first thing which people should do after a patch on pc is always to verifie the game files. more then less it downloads multiple files for me and everything is fine then.

I actually stopped doing that several patches ago, and no issues. There's no harm in doing so, of course.

When I get home I'll be patching/trying the game out. We'll see what happens.

when it works it works but as you said it doesn't do any damage and doesn't take much time.

I've been had by the bad file thing a couple of times. About the only problem I've had with the game. I generally don't think about it though.

Downloaded the patch, did the integrity check, all files validated succesfully. Went to the lab with Joker then hopped online for KL. I matched with a Nemesis I struggled badly against yesterday, won the first match. Second match started, we exchanged a couple of hits, he landed a throw on me and the game crashed but this time I wasn't thrown on the desktop, an error message popped up:

C:\Jen_noAV\711_prod_S\Development\Kore\D3D11Drv\Src\D3D11Drv.cpp(677): Assertion failed: NRSErrorf The Direct3D 11 device that was being used has been removed. Please restart the game.

Man, I'm pissed right now! I can't even win when I'm winning! WTF is going on with this game?!

Since I did those steps I was posting about a page back, I had no crashes - until today...

Try a few Offline Sets (Fight>Local> Set the second opponent to AI) and see if you crash. It'd be interesting to see if it's universal or Online only.

Always here to help, you're the best, my friend!

But you know what's interesting? I have never in my life heard about Jen_noAV! So I checked my C drive and I have no such directory there. Then I checked hidden folders, nada. Then I hit up the Internet to search for C:\Jen_noAV and guess what? I have found numerous threads about it in connection with MK11!

The only difference is that they had 'NRSErrorf Out of memory' or 'NRSErrorf bad index' error messages. The only thing that apparently fixed the issue was deleting MK11 hidden folder in Appdata. I used to do this but I didn't do it yesterday.

So the MK11 patch 101 looks like this:

  • Download the patch (seems straightforward but I downloaded 7GBs, others 5GBs and I read about people who had a 45GB patch size!)
  • Do the integrity check
  • Update your drivers if needed
  • DELETE THE DAMN MK11 HIDDEN FOLDER because past files apparently frequently cause compatibility issues
  • pray for the elder gods to be able to start the game and not to crash during every session
I'm really disappointed with QLOC, they're slowly turning into High Voltage Software

coffee now
I was having the same error just loading into anything, customization or training mode. Verifying the files worked for me though, no issues since.

Since I first heard about verifying files could solve problems, I always did the integrity check after patches. I did so yesterday as well, I still crashed.

I deleted the MK11 hidden folder then, reset my graphic settings, even lowered Texture Quality and Shadow Quality this time, turn Motion Blur, Ambient Occlusion and SS Reflections OFF and I could get through a short session (3 online sets) without crashing. It doesn't mean anything though, maybe I was lucky this time.

But apart from that, MK11 experience keeps getting worse for me. Offline content is not for me, I'm not interested in fighting modifiers with modifiers. Character Towers would have been a good idea but since we (PC players) rarely can get through a Tower without crashing before the end, I lost any kind of excitement in those quickly.

Online Ranked is what keeps me playing since the MKXL days but this Kombat League is abhorrent. I met disgusting assholes before during the MKXL and Injustice 2 days but this new breed of toxic idiots make my blood boil. I can accept that online is not for the faint hearted, but I would never insult someone just for fun or try to make his/her experience as miserable as I can to let steam off. There's a guy who I ran into more often than I'd like, and he has a rather annoying playstyle he can beat me with. We recognize eachother by gamer tag by now I guess so he knew he could beat me. Okay, enjoy yourself. But last time he t-bagged for seconds then did a fatal to me after the first match. I didn't have the nerves for this shit on that day so the second match was a home run for the fucker, but he kept going and t-bagged during the match whenever he could. It was really infuriating but I didn't want to give him a quitality for more pleasure. And there's people like him who send friend request afterwards. WTF do you want from me after you try to annoy the hell out of me? I block those a-holes right away.

But this is not the worst part. I met a player called NO MERCY DM or something like that. 96/3, 'must be a cheater' - I immediately thought. He picked Scorpion, and he was really average. I won the first match easily, okay, I was ready for him quitting. No, he started the second match. First round was quite straightforward, he showed signs of improvement in the second, it went down to the wire when I killed him with an accidental button. As the game went slow-mo and 'Finish Him!' appeared, he broke connection in a second. 'Game session has desynchronized'. And a lot of people do that. No issues until the last hit, then all of a sudden game session is desynchronized or connection is lost. You can even see that red wire sign flashing for a brief moment. How do they do this? And I never get those points. I could have won 100+ points against this '96/3' guy and it never happened according to the game. But every time the shit crashes on me, it is registered as a loss and my points are deducted accordingly.

And my other favorite is 'á,..', I'm not kidding, that's his name now. I'm not sure whether it is a new guy or and old cheater with a fancy new name but he was on 62/0 now, and he's a good old slow-mo abuser. I used to play a Sub-Zero who did this, now it was a Scarlet. It's slow-mo poke war until you lose patience and do something punishable. If you do, he lands a hit then go to his shell. 99 out of 100 people will do what I did, quit and take the L. I 'beat' someone who did this once, it took about 10 minutes to get through a match and as I landed the killing blow he broke connection. I got no win or points for that of course. I don't understand the mentality of these people. Do they really think they're good? Or does the fact that they're cheating and ruining the fun of others give them satisfaction? How do they do this anyway? How breaking connection is not a loss for them but it is for me? I tried unplugging my router when I ran into people like them but it was a loss for me every time.

So that's the MK11 experience in a nutshell. Boring or unplayable offline, Online is full of toxic a-holes, cheaters and CTDs. If it hadn't been for the best overall gameplay in the NRS era, I would have dropped this game by now.

For the patch, it was 5.xx GB for me, took about 40 minutes to download on my 300 mps download connection as it spent about half the time simply doing something on my HDD when it got to 96% complete. This happens with each major patch for the game and I expect it and know the patch download hasn't "frozen," simple patience is needed and I'm okay with that.

I fired the game up, no issues, benchmark is averaging 59 FPS (normal for me to be between 59 and 60), and I did the Joker's tutorial and such, all fine. I then went to Towers of Time and did a Tag Assist Tower with my usual characters, and in the third of four towers the game did crash-to-desktop. Overall I had the game running for about 40 minutes.

Now, I mentioned before that my game was crashing when I had FidelityFX CAS turned on, and it seemed to stop when I disabled it. I had turned it back on a bit ago after updating to the latest nVidia Drivers, so I suspect that was the issue again, and not the new patch.

I disabled it again, and then played for well over an hour, Towers of Time, Fight Locals against the AI, Krypt, etc., no crashes or issues at all. I also have not verified my game files.

So far, all seems well to me with the possibility of a random, occasional crash-to-desktop which I may have resolved.

@imMORTAL KOMBATant I'd still be curious for you to try another model Controller, not a Sony one. Do you have a buddy you could borrow one from? Again, there were lots of reports of DualShock 4's causing crashes in the game months back, so it is a possibility that you've not yet eleminted in your testing (as far as I know).

For Offline play, I'm not big on modifiers myself, and though I've spent most of my time in Towers of Time, that's mainly been for unlocks of Skins and Gear. In Mortal Kombat X, I ultimately spent most of my time in Single Fight, and that's the Single Player mode I enjoy the most in Mortal Kombat 11 as well. No modifiers or any BS like that, just simulated Multiplayer matches. To do that in this game, go to Versus, Local, and press "Square" (I think that's the button on a PlayStation Controller) to set the second Opponent to AI Controlled.

In terms of your Multiplayer experiences, I find that's generally the case with Online in general today, and for me, when I do play Multiplayer, I prefer private matches with friends. I played many great sets with a buddy back during Mortal Kombat X, and we had a great time.

It sounds to me like you'd benefit most from playing in the PC game nights that are often advertised on this board. You could always reach out to people for private Sets too, I know there's many here who'd happily play with you. I'd be down for some Sets to. My Multiplayer experience with the game is limited, but I wouldn't freak at you if you mop me 10-0 :). The challenge for me these days is scheduling in general.

Unfortunately my friends who use other contollers need those controllers themselves. As I said, I had a crash free 5-day-period before the new patch, so I'd need one at least for a week to test it thoroughly.

As fas as Single Player kontent, I enjoyed Injustice 1 the most. Those towers had real variety and you could and had to play all of them differently. In MK11, it's almost the same to me whether my kombo is interrupted by an assist move or falling meteor, I just don't like it. I mostly use ToT to improve my execution and be better with my kombos because that's where I'm lacking. That's impossible with stuff falling on my head all the time. I mostly play Towers with no modifiers or if I want something that is rewarded by that particular Tower.

Interestingly I haven't played a single Online set until 2016, the MKXL days. I was really bored with the single player side of MKXL and I tried Online for a change. I tasted blood and I can't let it go ever since. :D I'm only half decent though, I have my moments but I'm not sure I'd mop anyone. I'm a character loyalist type, mainly because I don't have the time to be a pro so I learn along the way. Scheduling is an issue for me too, that's why I play randoms in Ranked.

I tend to be a character loyalist as well. In the current trilogy, I've mostly mained Mileena and Kitana, with Mileena being my learning character for the game. Though in Mortal Kombat XL, she ended up being my true main between the two as I found her character stronger.

This game, with Mileena absent, I main Highborn Kitana, but I also learned Jaded Jade and Dead of Winter Sub-Zero (I used to love him back in Mortal Kombat II and Mortal Kombat 3).

For me, everything's been stable again since I disabled FidelityFX CAS, though in fairness I've only played for a few hours; all Offline (both Towers of Time and Single Fights).

So today there was a small patch about Directx 12.
Indeed, this is good news! Here's the full patch notes:

Hello all,
Here are the patch notes for today's patch!

DX12 (beta)
We just added the BETA version DX12 to the game. This provides an option for players to try out DX12. Because DX12 is a newer graphics system, it changes the performance characteristics for some older video cards. If you want to play on DX12, we recommend having a system with these minimum and recommended specs:

MINIMUM SPEC

OS: 64-bit Windows 10
Processor: CPU Ryzen 3 1200, 3.10 GHz / Intel Core i7-3770, 3.40 GHz
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics : Radeon RX 470, 4 GB / GeForce GTX 970, 4 GB

RECOMMENDED SPEC

OS: 64-bit Windows 10
Processor: CPU Ryzen 5 1600, 3.20 GHz / Intel Core i7-6700, 3.40 GHz
Memory: 16 GB RAM
Graphics: Radeon RX 480, 8 GB / GeForce GTX 1070, 8 GB

General Fixes
Adjusted the HDR option to correctly display when its active/available.
Fixed a miscellaneous green line appearing in the splash screens on some resolutions.
General localization fixes.

Known issues
We’re aware of an issue with the MK11_DX12.exe launching the game in DX11 when accessed directly from the game folder.
We’re aware that some Nvidia GPU’s are experiencing random crashes in MK11 recently. We have reached out and are working close with Nvidia’s support to address this issue in a near future driver update.
We are aware of an issue in which keyboard directional keys may become unresponsive when navigating the Store menu
We are aware of an issue in which blood visual effects may affect frame rate on DX12.

For me, I have an Intel i5 4440 @ 3.10 GHz, so it looks like not DirectX 12 for me, but it's fantastic for those who can!

@imMORTAL KOMBATant I suspect the comment re: nVidia crashes under Known Issues is related to the reports you and your friend did; well done!

I had another random crash yesterday in the Joker Premium Tower, as usual, happened after about 40 minutes of play. Hopefully the future driver update will address things!

It sounds cool, but then I don't really get what it means and actually translates into
DX12 will put more load on your gpu and less on your Cpu so if your cpu is your bottleneck you will get more performance.
But if your Gpu is your bottleneck you should stick to DX11. For high End PC DX12 will be just a visual upgrade.

Ok. Game doesn't seem to do much to my cpu load. My GPU is comparatively the much weaker of the two.

I'll still be interested in what visual upgrade means and go looking to see if users start posting comparison pics at some point.

Interesting. To recap my system specs:

  • Intel Core i5 4440 @ 3.10 GHz
  • 16 GB Ram
  • nVidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 4G OC
Both my CPU and GPU are above the recommended requirements for the game itself, though my CPU is obviously quite old. By your description, I should give Direct X 12 a whirl, but apparently my CPU falls short of the minimum for that. Odd.
