Have any of you had difficulty finding a main in this game compared to MK9/X?

In MK9 my issue was there were so many characters I liked I couldn't settle on one. MKX I pretty quickly found my two primaries and dabbled in two others on the side. In this game I feel like there's just not many that jump out to me (or rather, there are a handful I like the look of but when I get to playing them they aren't scratching that particular itch) but can't put my finger on why.

Not a knock on the game at all, just a preference thing -- has anyone else had this experience or no?

I had that issue too. I think the fact that none of my favourite characters made MK11 played a huge factor because before I felt commited to my character and had to learn them no matter what. This time I went by who I liked visually so was planning on maining Jade, Skarlet or Frost. But none of them really spoke to me in terms of playstyle. I like to base my game around high execution combos and the first 2 where the furthest away from that, Frost is....well Frost. She's just bad and unfinished. Ended up with Noob.

In MK9 or MKX i was able to pick any character and fun with them . ANY CHARACTER . In this one , they all remind me of Starfire from Injustice 2 . Easy , 2 combos , blend and thats it .

Bomb Setups & Ball Rolls(Mileena/Cyrax)
Same issue, I love Kotal but he is hot trash.
Most of the characters lack in many ways tool wise.
In mkx I played characters with rushdown tools that also had footsie range and OK zoning and decent pokes.
I played trap characters mostly with all mentioned above. In X that was very easy to find. Characters with either: 50/50s, Plus on block and range or characters like Cassie with amazing frame traps, mix and very solid range.. Cyrax was my main

But in MK11 its like characters can only have one if the following:
Mix, Frame Traps, Footsie tools and strong counter zoning, combos.

Error is very well rounded but his lack of comboability has me board with him quick.
I use everyone in MK11 but none that truly gets that final main title maybe when kotal gets fixed..

Right now I'm mostly using Cassie, Erron, Kotal, D'Vorah, Jade.

Cassie has great staggers, number if hit mix, good zoning and OK combos midscreen and tootsie tools but lacks traps, pokes, true 50/50s. She is very good just not what I really want.

Erron has great neutral, good counter zoning, good pokes, good mids. Lacks comboability only being able to combo from his LnL special move, he also doesn't have real plus on block frame traps aside from D1 into 21212 and 114 but 114 is only plus 1 so his 11-13f mids don't really frame trap at that range. Very good character though.

I could go on but I feel characters are missing what I'm used to in previous mk games and the comboability is lackluster witH many limitations compared to MK9/MKX.

I have hope for Shang though. Please NRS let him have mix and ground skull launcher into combo with decent projectiles.
The morphing alone is enough for me to main him but weather I get board depends on how he plays and how limited his combos are. Weather he has solid mix game to open up, if that's staggers, number of hit or 50/50 I'll be happy.
I like characters that are JacK of all trades master of none.

In Zoning We Trust
I feel ya in a way. MKX I bounced around from character to character, never fully meshing with anyone or the game. A far-cry from MK9 and Inj1 when I played the same character for most of two years straight.

In MK11 though I main'd Cetrion the day I saw her reveal trailer, with no intentions of leaving unless some massive nerfs hit. Though she has a few MUs that will turn out pretty bad I suspect, so I picked up that big Scorpion as the secondary.

My suggestion would be try characters you wouldn't think you'd try to play. I never in a million years thought I'd play some Scorpion, and originally only tried him out of utility, but now I actually enjoy his playstyle. You never know.

Everyone Has A Path
It took me longer than usual. By the end of the first week I typically have my main selected in any new fighting game. I usually dabble with one character then swap to another one. One week of FANG, then I mained Vega. One week of Paul, then I mained Bryan. The second time around, one week of Lee, then Miguel. One week of Trunks/Piccolo/Yamcha, then Tien/Piccolo/Nappa. MK9 and MKX I mained Kano starting Day 1.

This time I went Kano immediately, but there were too many aspects of him that I couldn't make work. Then Johnny, but my brother plays him so I conceded and picked Kotal. I liked him a lot but I ended up just dropping him for no particular reason. I tried to make Raiden work and my online W/L will forever be tainted by that period. Then I finally settled on Kung Lao after a full month of main-hopping and I honestly don't think I'll drop him unless Ash comes out. I do want a secondary since there are some matchups that I think are a little too unfavorable, but I'm just not that good with Liu Liu.

Maybe not related but this is the first mk game where I only play one character. I just can’t find interest in any other characters past a few minutes

Its Game Over, Man
The two characters that I mained in MKX just haven't seemed to work out for me thus far. Tried Johnny and while I can make him work offline, when I go online, it's too much of an uphill battle right now. Then I tried out Erron and I'm not having that connection that I did with him in the previous game (also doesn't help that I primarily used his Outlaw variation, so I'm not used to this version). Thankfully, Cassie's been working great for me since she's pretty much what I want in a character, a tool for every occasion but not overpowered to the point where I'm bored playing her.

Noob
I almost made this thread myself because I'm absolutely having trouble finding a main. I've bounced from Jade, to Kitana, to Kung Lao, to now Liu Kang. I've always mained Reptile, Nightwolf, or Sektor so my mains were set in MK9 and MKX, but now I'm at a loss. I need to play around with more of the cast this weekend when I get some time. Worst case scenario I dabble with the whole cast until Nightwolf comes out and pray his play-style suits me.

Hanzo Main
I've actually found that I want to (at least) try most of the cast. I've already found 4 characters I actively really enjoy playing, which feels really good since I really only played Scorpion in the base roster of MKX and found the rest of my characters (Triborg, Tremor, Predator) in the DLC.

I want Kronika to step on my face
I didn't like Subzero when I first picked him up but promised myself I'd stick it out for a week at least since he's been my main in like every MK game ever. Fully in love with him now and he suits me very well. The yolo slides are life.

I'm enjoying the low-tier hero life so far. #BuffSubzero

EB is too good to ignore, just super comfortable playing him. Jax is a lot of fun and his Hunker Down is too satisfying not to play.

Noob Saibot
MK9 I was a Reptile main until Kenshi dropped and in MKX I stuck with those two for the most part. I fucking hella disappointed in Kenshi when the game dropped but stuck with him and it paid off in the end.

This game I wanted to play Noob and be a zoner but was disappointed so I went with my second pick who was Baraka, who I loved in the beta and now soon Shang will drop so it's all good.

Juxtapose

Master
It was pretty simple for me. For the last two games, Mileena and Kitana have been my mains, so for this game, Highborn Kitana is my main.

I ultimately want to try Jade and Shao Kahn as alternate characters.

I think the roster at the moment is pretty weak. The characters that I really like are just kind of meh. I remember being excited for Kollector, because I tend to love oddball characters, but he ended up being pretty disappointing gameplay wise. It feels like they could of done so much more with the character. Also, three female special force characters are top tier, which makes the roster feel like it has even less variety.

However, Shang Tsung was my main in MK9, so I'm really looking forward to him.

As long as Scorpion is in, I have a main.

I dabbled in Skarlet and Shao Kahn because after the beta I though Scorpion sucks so bad I wouldn't even want to try to make him work, but he turned out fine :D

lmfao

I'm usually a Sub Zero main. Have been ever since I started playing semi competitively in MK9. But man, do I not like sub zero in this game. Boring af, nothing to really spice anything up (ie puddle setups, clone setups, etc. Ya know, the type of setups that make you feel good when people fall for them). All his cool moves are locked behind the casual play wall and there's nothing satisfying about hitting someone with F2 lol.

I never settle with just one main in any game. I don't know about your guys, but I find having just one main is kind of boring.

Yeah all my mains in MK11 are kinda "settle for 'em" status because Tanya isn't there. Not that I don't love Jade, Cetrion, Kitana & Skarlet though. They still have that badass fem fatale-ness that I lean towards.
