Can't stick to a main + alt. "Mike Ross" disease.

I can't stick to a main. HOW do you not get bored playing just 1-2 characters? I've narrowed it down to Baraka, Geras, Sub, and Kitana. I wanna add that I don't have this problem in 3D fighters where characters have extensive movelists and deep tech to figure out. Tekken 7: Steve, SC6: Kilik. Barely feel the need to switch for variety's sake, but in 2D fighters like SF and MK it's a problem for me. Do you guys have this issue?

This is the first fighting game I have ever played where I have chosen a main. I always thought that way but I’m honestly enjoying it. Stuff like spacing, knowing right where to be before I commit to buttons. I have never really thought about it before. Now I still don’t think about but only because it’s natural lol. I have thrown the same buttons thousands of times.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a 2D vs 3D or even depth of movelist thing (at least for me) so much as just when a character clicks or not. I’ve had some with extensive movelists click in 3D games and I’ve had some with barely any moves click in 2D ones. I’m hoping Shang clicks in this one like he did for me in MK9.

Who is your main?

Yeah I have high hopes for Shang

Good point. I feel that about Geras and Sub. NRS has a track record of nerfing chars to shit when people complain about them
Geras automatically joins the robot crew btw even if he gets nerfed...4 robots will be my mains if all goes well :)

Life is a block string with no gaps.
There is just so much to learn for each character. Matchups take quite a while to develop and flesh out.

you can call me blue cheese, because I am DRESSING
I have this in every game. The only time it's different is if one of my roomates/RL friends picks a character as their main I probably won't play them because I don't want to make them feel bad when I beat them with their own character ;)

Picking a lot of different characters gives valuable perspective on how to approach matchups.

So far in MK11 I went from Jax to Geras to Kung Lao (~200-300 games with each) and now I'm basically only playing Baraka.

For me there's usually one little thing that makes me switch. Jax is really good but I wanted to see why people were saying Geras was OP so I gave him a shot and realized he is really fucking good so I switched over. Then I got sick of winning with constant 50/50 so I wanted to try a flashier style of Kung Lao where I felt like I was earning my wins a bit more. Then I realized my whole game with Kung Lao if I couldn't get shenanigans going was d3 and grab so I switched to Baraka for better neutral.

Baraka is serving me very well. Hits like a truck and has great buttons.

Woooooooooooooo!
I'm having trouble with this too, but more because I can't find a character that really fits my playstyle and/or doesn't feel like a total uphill battle to play. Funny enough Shao Kahn is winning that battle for me right now over the other two chars I've learned (Cetrion and Liu). He's just so viscerally satisfying. I want that loud "BONG" hammer impact sound as an Android notification. :)

I am also having troubles with this. I have playstyles that I Prefer but said characters don't klick with me and kharacters i like the look of but I can't win with them I use customs and love the whole roster so far!

The axe that clears the forest
I've really struggled with finding a character that clicks with me in MK11. Same sort of thing happened in INJ2. I'm maining Shao Kahn right now and still enjoying playing him, but I definitely need to pick up someone else and stick with them. I don't mind low tier at all, as one of my favorite all-time NRS game characters was Ares in INJ1. He was shit but damn was he fun.

In Tekken 7, I have the opposite issue. There's so many characters I enjoy playing. I finally settled down and have been just sticking with Katarina and have her at Suzaku rank currently. Playing just one character helps, but I also don't find it as much fun.

I paid for the whole roster, so I figure I might as well at least give them all a try.

Maybe I'm weird, but how can anybody be bored with there main when you got 24 MUs to look through?
It was fun to explore MUs with Kilik in SC6 bc I knew that was my main, so I wanted to explore the character deeper. I'm not really interested in exploring match-ups for Geras or Baraka bc I'm not sure if I even want to main them. *sad violin

Everyone Has A Path
This is the first fighting game I've ever played that I havent stuck with one character for more than a week at a time. I liked KL and Kotal a lot but KL has some really questionable issues and Kotal has some awful matchups. I thought I'd love Raiden but that didn't last. My win rate in ranked is pretty bad, and about half those losses were me trying to make him work. I picked up Liu Kang yesterday and cleaned house online once I got into the groove. But he seems like he'll get extremely boring after a bit.

I have no idea who I'll rep at Combo Breaker.

Chose someone who really, REALLY fits your playstyle and has the tools that you like using against your opponent. Don't settle for second best, narrow it down to one and grind them. Most importantly, find a character that you love. I know they're just fictional, but connecting with their personality still is a big factor in wanting to get better and main one character. Even if you understand them, even if you know their combos paths, even if you know your gameplan, mastering a character takes years and it also makes you a much better player in the long run. Being bored with a character means you're not learning anything new, find a character that makes you learn every day.

Searching for an alt.
I usually pick 2-3 characters in NRS games, or now I'd say variations in MKX and 11. Then I'm always experimenting with a rotating cast of a few more for the funs.

Makes it more fun to learn how to play against all the characters, see what makes them all twitchy, jumpy, and pokey.

Plus on block.
I’m sort of like this too, but I wouldn’t call it a problem if you can actually handle it.

I’m used to having main and then a bunch of sub mains that I juggle. Part of it is mixing things up for myself, part of it is getting my money’s worth.

Hey at least you're not stuck waiting for your actual main lmfao
I hope she comes out sooner rather than later.
