Kombat Kast #6 - WEDNESDAY 03/27 3PM CST

Bomb Setups & Ball Rolls(Mileena/Cyrax)
No, he's not been shown as part of the main story mode, nor been confirmed to be canon otherwise. So far he's just an added DLC, a means to an end to use the variation system in MKX to make the cyber ninjas playable.

Wether Triborg is Canon or not,
It's debated. I'm of the opinion he is. Others would argue he isn't.

There's no reason he shouldn't be in my opinion. I'm aware, as DLC, he made no appearance in story mode, but that's not something exclusive to Triborg. Tremor didn't appear in story mode either, no one debates if he's canon. (Not to mention Goro, or Kenshi & Rain in MK9. Skarlet had a background cameo, at least, but otherwise no presence).

He's a non-guest character on the roster, with an arcade bio, a legitimate backstory set within the overall narrative and an arcade mode ending. Those are pretty much the only criteria that made a character canon before MK9. Why should they not apply now?

He's more fleshed out than characters like Meat or Blaze were when they debuted. Hell, he's already more fleshed out than charcters like Reptile or Jade or Noob were when they debuted.

Why would he not be canon?

I know some people dislike the concept/idea behind his backstory, but... that doesn't invalidate said backstory.

In an above post I provided his backstory:

Summary of it is, Triborg is basically the leader of the Tekunin which is part of the story mode, current timeline and took the mantle from Sektor. All of the Lin Kuei was forced to put themselves in the database and it was saved and hidden. Tekunin is the Cyber Initiative which is what it was referred to before in older MKs.

All in all I feel there is plenty to make Triborg canon I think the problem is most don't realize Triborg is the head of the Tekunin and as we can see it's a big part of our story mode just from what we have seen.

Kitana & Skarlet
I hope Triborg gets the skarlet treatment, returning as a vital character to the story with a redesign. Albeit I love some of the iconic moves of the cyborgs, I want to see them do something new and exciting with them.

In regards to the kombat kast I think we're seeing Jax (as indicated by some of his gameplay in the trailer) and maybe Lao and Kang.

I don't understand why people keep saying he's not canon. He's clearly canon.
Normally I'd agree with you, except, Triborg's story doesn't make sense and was clearly made only so his existence could be slightly justified outside gameplay.
His backstory claims he was made by the SF from the old LK cyber initiative server files, but, how could that have happened if Sub-Zero completely wiped out all traces of the Cyber Lin Kuei? The entire base was exploded from the self-destruct.
Secondly, would the SF really be so stupid to even try to recreate anything from it, without even telling Sub-Zero about it in the first place? That would create huge animosity between them, and they seem to be allies currently.

... This is as far as this argument's gonna go right now though since it has nothing to do with the current thread. Set up a new thread if you wish to continue discussing this topic :) @LawAbidingCitizen

I mean, it's not the most sensible backstory, but it's a backstory we're provided. There's been lots of contradictory stuff in MK in the past -- just recently we have had to accept the MKX comic as supposedly canon when there are huge points of discontinuity with MKX the game. I think Triborg fits just fine, and the SF have made dumb mistakes before.

Backgrounds of the trailers? Sounds like kollector, he was always in the background. Liu, Kung Lao, Kitana , Jax have been shown as characters. Kollector, and Cetrion, were shown as background glimpses only.

At the time the comment about background characters in trailers were made, Liu and Lao had only appeared in the background aside from that very brief look at Liu in the kustomize menu. I think they're both still very valid options. But still, I'd love to see someone else as I've said earlier.

Have you ever seen the Rain?
Triborg = not canon because of, Smoke's not a robot in this timeline.

I hate Triborg because I want Sektor and Cyrax to be two separate characters, Cyrax the tech-nerd for Special Forces, and Sektor the evil leader of the robot-clan.

I wouldn't mind robots like Hydro and Khrome even in the background (not as playable characters, just fillers) so that Sektor has his minions.

I would like a total re-design for Cyrax, half human and half cyborg, and sektor should be the only full-on playable cyber-ninja.

I really hate Cyber Smoke and Cyber Sub-Zero, and since they are in the form of Triborg, I hate triborg even more.

Worth noting though that if Triborg turns out to be canon, he'll be the first ever (and so far, only) Mortal Kombat character to debut as DLC with no prior set-up whatsoever.

Given that, and his sketchy backstory, and the fact that he has never appeared in any canon material to date, and the fact that his existence is an obvious gimmick to combine three existing characters into one (regardless of whether he's canon, it still was a gimmick in MKX), I think that's ample reason to consider him a unique case and possibly non-canon as a result.

If Triborg isn't canon, then I have to ask... from whence come the Tekunin in the lab stage and the Jax trailer? I suppose we'll find out.

For the record, I think it'd be pretty neat if Triborg were in (I absolutely don't think he is, mind), because the custom variation system'd allow for some really interesting stuff if they let you rock a combination of specials from his "component" parts, rather than making him each individual cyborg uniformly. Plus, if he's a piecemeal character who can't represent any of the "full packages", and perhaps even devleoped a more unique personality as a result, it'd make for room for those selfsame full packages to be re-introduced into the franchise with new bells and whistles.

But that's just wishful thinking. We're not getting any of these robots. Human Smoke might (and I daresay is likely to) return as DLC, and Frost might inherit some Cyber-Sub stuff, but that's as close as it's getting.

I hear you. I'm not a fan of the character, and agree he was probably a one-off gimmick. I just think the non-canon assumption without word from NRS is a reach.

Of all the DLC characters mentioned, (Tremor, Skarlet, Kenshi, etc.), Triborg is the only one to never appear in any form of actual canonical Story. He's never been in a past game/timeline, comic, etc.

Thus, as a DLC-only character, he is presently not canon. For now. This could change, or it could not. Whether Mortal Kombat 11 does anything with him or not will be a big tell.

The franchise has had non-canonical characters before; i.e. Klassic Sub-Zero and Human Smoke in Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3. That was clearly not Noob Saibot since Noob is in the game itself, and was clearly a cool way of adding a playable ninja Sub-Zero back into the game. Smoke was a cyberninja at this time, and being able to select Human Smoke was a cool bonus.

Thier database of the Lin kuei was hidden secretly so thankfully it was all safe and backed up.

Yeah we can continue in another thread if ya like.

Just to be clear, Dairou, Darrious, Meat, Blaze, Mokap, fucking Hsu Hao are canon but Tri-Borg who was in the most recent game and has unique interesting dialogue with a bunch of characters is not because . . . comics?

Not because "comics," but because he hasn't been in the actual story. Versus intro dialogue is not canon (though can reference canonical material).

Is Meat and Mokap canon though, were they actually in story modes?

My dad was works for NRS and he says all three characters being revealed are actually D'Vorah.

Screencap this for when I'm right.
