Ranking System for Online Matches?

You won't get matches with people that are leagues below you, but you also won't get matches with players that are leagues above you.

Being equally matched with someone makes the best and most intense fights. Not to mention you can learn a lot from player players that are of your skill level, especially if you watch your replays and see what you did good and what you did wrong.

Inversely, you also learn a lot when you fight against players that are a league or two above you. You have to learn how to adapt to their playstyle and counter them and it's always really satisfying when you finally beat them.

You grow with your character as you rank up and, you learn and develop a strategy on how to use them effectively. And sure, that happens without ranks, but then again you won't get those matches where you get destroyed and feel discouraged or play easy matches that can also have the same effect.

I don't think NRS talked about this at all, but what do you guys think about this?

ex:
Steel
Bronze
Silver
Gold
Ruby
Sapphire
Jade
Diamond

It's been heavily requested by the community in the past, I'm really hoping they do something like this. It's in pretty much every other fighter.
Yep, I'm finding ranks really beneficial in DOA6 so far, I'm learning a lot with my character that way.

They could use like silver, sapphire, ruby, jade, and diamond for ranks.

I'd love it if you were to pick your character before entering matchmaking, and having matchmaking take into account your skill/experience with said character.

I hardly get the chance to use my newer, inexperienced characters in MKX because of the record I built with my comfy characters. Get matched with killers 75% of the time, and the other 25% decline because they see my record. Like jesus I just want to practice my two week old Torr. Shouldn't be this difficult.

Edit: Forgot to mention hidey/smurf accounts. I love taking one of my newer characters against a 75/100 Cassie that ends up playing like SonicFox's. Good times.

Agreed, it would solve a whole lot of problems. I made a secondary acc on my PS4 just to start fresh and practice my Predator and Sonya since my Cassie was getting matches against really good players and I would just get bodied. But then I still had to fight newbie players and that didn't really help me a whole lot.

Honestly, I still don't know why NRS hasn't jumped on ship when it comes to the idea of online ranking systems.

This is my #1 Most Wanted Thing In MK11. Hands down, no question about it. 1000000%

There really isn't a solid way of determining someone's skill considering people could just be defeating opponents who are not nearly as good as them in ranked play.

For more inexperienced players it must create a huge hassle too.

I know many of my friends who wouldn't ever dare touch ranked play because they know that eventually they'll face someone that will absolutely curb stomp them without them even having an opportunity to realize what they're doing wrong. If newer players play against opponents in their same skill range, they will also be more likely to improve and to keep playing. Having an opponent that is at your same level or reasonably above a person's level is so important for fighting games.

Not only that though, but ranking systems give players incentive to keep playing. I literally have grinded Tekken 7 just so I could see myself eventually get to a rank that I have never reached before. It's very motivating and it's, quite honestly, the only reason I keep playing the game.

Implemented well, I would love a ranking system as I typically ONLY play ranked modes in any game that I play. Basically my thought is, if you aren't playing against other people who want to win, what's the point?

I never really played player matches in mk9 or mkx unless it was with friends or clan members. So having a ranked system in your ranked mode would be great if it was implemented well.

I think that's one of the most underrated but important aspects of rankings. I've seen my friend, a button masher who never blocked, evolve into someone who started blocking and punishing. It's great to see.

So Tekken? Lol.

In Tekken you select your character before the match making, dont know who you face until after it links, and each character ranks up individually. But it also takes your overall skill into account because say your best Character is level 15Dan. All of your "worst" characters (ones you never even played) get defaulted to level 10, since your skill level would be too strong with a 2 week character vs someone at Level 5. That's a spitball of the numbers involved, but that's how it works.

If MK can expand on that, rename the ranks MK related (say Elder God is the top rank for elites), and add some extra perks it would be the ideal scenario. Most games have some sort of ranking system but NRS is in a prime position to reset the market here.

These are examples from Tekken 7 and SF5.

Now think of the ranks that Mortal Kombat would have.
Now think of what badass names/ranks they'd think up.
Now think of the other little tidbits they could add like giving you certain banners/icons you could use if you reach a high enough rank.

Ugh... I want this so bad....

I made a thread about it like 3 weeks ago and it never caught fire, but I really hope more people get to see that this topic is worth discussing much more than some of the shit you've been talking about for the last week.

We said almost the same thing at the exact same time lol. Great minds as they say.

This is an amazing idea for people, like me, that use different characters.
Don't display records because people are scared or take them too seriously.

p.s. smurf accounts are really a bane!

I'm so down for this. I think it may be a simple concept, but ranks really do add a lot to any FG.

If nrs tries this for the first time ill keep my standards low. Tekken has been around for a long time so theyve been able to tweak their ranks better im sure. If nrs could get anywhere close to tekkens ranks id be impresed

If they've been listening to the community I'm sure they have been working on this. It would be a severe lack for the game to not have a ranking system in 2019. Actually, I was suprised IJ2 didn't have one and playing online was kinda shit because of that.

IMO a ranking system really does something for the longevity of a fighting game too.

There are so many people that I know that literally grind online just to get through that next threshold.

For NRS games of the past though?
There is no goal to playing ranked except reaching somewhere different in the leaderboards.
Yeah, it's fun, to a point, but only a few hundred of us enjoy that thrill of the climb.

I've said it once and I'll say it again.
I WANT THIS SO BADLY NRS!!!! PLEASE!!!!!

I'd feel like such shit if we get the beta and we enter ranked and it's the same old shit with just WINS/LOSSES. I'd be deflated so badly.

Yep lol that's EXACTLY what I would prefer. I haven't played Tekken since Tekken 2

That's true, leaderboards never really meant anything to me, but ranks are what gets me to really grind a game. If a game like DOA6 can pull it off, I'm sure NRS can too there is no excuse to not include that in. Even if it's not ready on launch, I hope they'll add this in later.

I really hope they do this, there’s no reason not to and literally every other fighting game has it. NRS games are the only ones who don’t and this would severely help matchmaking. NRS PLEASE give us a league/rank system online
