BREAKING: Erron Black (and others) supposedly Leaked on Reddit

They deserve it wholeheartedly. Not even two months away and we're just now seeing the first game play of KANO lmao. What a joke. They took an entire week for a mobile Kombat kast. Also a joke. They showed geras and baraka breakdowns multiple times. We still haven't seen in game gameplay for dvorah. If you guys accept this schedule idk what to tell you. There's a fine line between building hype and completely killing it by being annoying with the secrecy. Before the leak I had maybe two characters I even wanted to try. I hadn't pre-ordered and if it wasn't for me being a competitive player I wouldn't have bought it day one. This leak is a major reason I'm going to preorder again. Nrs can go at any pace they want to, but at the same time it's not fair for them to lock a beta behind pre-orders and constantly push for them when we don't even officially have gameplay of a large portion of the roster. Idgaf.

The roster of a fighting game should not be this secret. After the scummy DLC practices NRS has done in the past, I promised myself I would never preorder or buy a season pass from them again until everything is revealed. I have no reason to trust NRS anymore with how terrible MKX's roster was and how stupid all the guest DLC was over characters people were clamoring for. No rain again leaves a very bad taste in my mouth but I will get over that.
You make great points about preorder beta and dlc. I cant defend that. It just seems NRS can't catch a break. They could have a dope story trailer showing all this off and planned on ramping things way up for KKs in the coming weeks. Instead we get this grainy leak.

He doesn't have a point. He was always going to buy the game, he said it right there.

Leaks only benefit impatient "fans", they do nothing for the scores of us who were willing to wait and damage the developers, marketers, and brands they are the supposed fans of.

And for what? Like he said, he's a competitive player, he already HAD to buy it. Oh woe is him that he had to wait 2 months to know which character to complain about not top tier.

I disagree with NRS dlc and preorder practices, but not enough to think their marketing campaign should be ruined. Most here are going to blindly preorder the game and all dlc anyways. They arent marketing to people on tym.

You are also correct. There is no difference between knowing a list of names today or 3 weeks before release. And again, it will all turn into nerf/buff/whining about characters by april 23rd anyways. Until then, bring on the gameplay reveals!

The leaks aren't ideal for the studio. They've been working on this game for years, and obviously they want to roll it out as planned. But I have to be honest and say that these leaks have me more excited than anything from their promo campaign so far. Kombat Kast is unwatchable (sound problems and someone SHHHHHHing anyone who dares to speak during the opening dialogue) so having screenshots appeals to me. Also, I'm not surprised to read that certain bloggers (the ones invited to big Mortal Kombat/Injustice gaming events) won't cover the leaks. It's in their interests to service the studio that allows them perks in order to create content. It makes no sense for them to upset Ed Boon. We're trapped in a cycle of relying on these people to give us news and information.

However, I think the main problem with the campaign so far is that it hasn't really made the game look exciting. Initially, I felt it looked like a strange rip-off of Injustice 2, which is not ideal for a pioneering series like Mortal Kombat. Things are getting better now. The rumoured roster is perfect for me. It's a good mixture of old and new Kreations, plus it hints at a few surprises. I would love to see Shang Tsung, Mileena and Shinnok back again. Shinnok in particular is still important to the overall plot. He may be part of the rumoured 'Shaolin Monks'/Konquest mode along with Shang and Mileena, hence you need to complete it to unlock them. Or maybe not? I like the prospect of seeing the main antagonists of the MK universe Shinnok, Shao, and Shang (what a band name that would make) fighting for control of the realms.

Mileena seems like an odd choice, since she's basically an evil copy of Kitana. But Kitana is now an evil copy of Kitana. Regardless, I adore Mileena and hope she's there. Rain? I don't care about him. I've never liked his moveset or his character. I'm fine with him being out of the roster, or as DLC. Also, Mortal Kombat without Sonya/Johnny doesn't feel right to me. It's like having it without Raiden/Liu/Scorpion and Sub-Zero. I expect them. So I'm glad we're getting them.

I got to say i don't get the whole " they were taking forever to reveal everything so they deserve this" argument. The reveal event happened just seven weeks ago and since then we had Kabal, Kano, D'vorah, Jade and Johnny Cage revealed and yeah Kano and D'vorah don't have gameplay but we know there in the game and what their default and in Kano's case alt looks like. Also don't forget they were delayed one week because of the winter storm.

people can use a lot of words but in the end here is the real reason people will say whatever they say about the leaks

No, I believe he is a construct of Kronika's.

I think 'the Kollector' is supposed to be one too, but we don't know that for sure yet.
I'm thinking Kollector might be the comic relief character tagging along side Cassie that was mentioned in one of the Brazilian interviews.

Go over there!
Whoever broke their NDA to leak this absolutely shouldn’t have. This was a shitty thing to do, not just because they violated a contract. Showing characters in an unfinished state leads to confusion and unfair criticisms. Just look at the shitstorm discussions in this thread of whether a given image is LK or Kotal - this is exactly why leaks like this hurt the community.

The one silver lining to this is that knowing the full roster - not necessarily having the leaked screenshots but just knowing the list of characters - has been more hype than the trickle of character reveals orchestrated by NRS/WB marketing thus far, and I hope this is a lesson they learn for their next game. Think about it, Nintendo revealed the entire Smash Ultimate roster all at once and it was ultra hype, dominating gaming news while sustaining hype all the way through launch and lead to the largest early sales of any Switch game. Granted, they announced every character from every Smash ever was in the roster, but even if some didn’t make the cut the hype would’ve still been potent.

Meanwhile, every official MK11 character reveal pleases the 10% of fans, give or take, who play that character while the rest are either neutral or anxious that they didn’t see a character they wanted, and some get outright angry that said revealed character took a slot away from someone they really want. And this unbalanced negative reaction gets repeated at every single character reveal. Rain fans were going to get disappointed upwards of 20 times if NRS kept this up. With a full roster reveal, they get disappointed once and can move on. Meanwhile, the fan base is still left with unknowns to get excited about: to see the roster in action, learn about their move sets, and get info on new characters. Who is the Kollector, how does he look, what’s his backstory? Hyped to learn more!

NRS should learn from this by using full roster reveals to generate more hype and realize that their current reveal strategy generates more anxiety than positive excitement.

Edit: fixed typos.

Cassie was the comic relief character in Mortal Kombat X, which means she may have formed a double act with Kollector. #KomedyKombat

THe red words better not be true about the Kollector. It makes me puke.

Really would not like another comic character like Cassie and Bo Rai Fart. The Kolllector sounds awesome, but this sounds awful, hopefully it is an error in translation.

I think a game like Mortal Kombat needs a bit of light relief, otherwise it's just too bleak. Mortal Kombat X was filled with comedic moments. Even if we forget about the obvious comic relief, most of the roster got to have moments of comedy. The exchanges between Shinnok and Mileena was sheer bitchery. Liu begging Mileena to close her mouth was funny too. Kenshi being grateful for his blindness so he didn't need to watch a Johnny Cage movie. I'm fine with comedy in Mortal Kombat. I expect it, actually.

I love comedy in the opening conversations, I love comedy in some characters, the Kollector however, I don't want him to be comedy relief. Especially not a slave for Cassandra Cage, ugh. Hopefully they are wrong. Really hope the Kollector isn't a cheap character like Gateway from X-Men.

I wouldn't really consider Cassie a comic relief character. She's more of a protagonist with comic qualities, like her father.

I think she straddles that line. Personally, I regard her as comic relief simply because she made me laugh so much. But of course that doesn't take away from her toughness. You can be funny and deadly in a game like Mortal Kombat.

Very true. I know that Johnny used to be a straight up comic relief in past games and even a bit of a buttmonkey. But, in the recent games, he's evolved. I'd liken him to Starlord, definitely funny but still heroic, and I'd place Cassie in that same category as him.
