I Want to Actually Use This Forum During MK11

So here's the deal.. I'm moving this forum to a more accessible spot -- and I think it'd be awesome if we could use it to break down and analyze some matches after major tournaments and whatnot. Just to take a retrospective view, point out cool decisions and key mistakes, spot new tech, etc.

Since results threads tend to be somewhat political and more focused around patches, etc., I see this as a place we were can just discuss gameplay, and only gameplay, after events, for everybody who's into the meta and curious to see how it's evolving.

This would be cool. Personally, this is something I found lacking in the results posts since I've been doing them. Typing things out live, it's hard for me to keep up and discuss interesting tech that happens (unless there is a crazy read) and I usually don't know enough about the whole cast to mention anything in detail.

I wanna learn how to commentate. I feel like a lot of strategy is overlooked in nrs matches
I definitely appreciate people who go beyond "Oh he used f2 into b34".. It's nice to hear people who can delve deeper into what they imagine people are thinking or trying to do at a certain point in a match. Conditioning, mind games, adjustments, etc.

Oh, hell yeah. I love studying what the top-level players tend to do in any game I'm serious about. Should especially make for some good fun during the early days while all of us are going through the experimental phase.

Fully support, 100%. Wise and practical idea.

I second the love for smart commentary. I dream of the day I get to be MK Joey Styles more than I do of making a Top 8, and that's not just because I'm mediocre.

Ay! This is what im talkin' about babY! I watch ALOOOOOOT of tourneys from all sort of FGs. So having an area where we can break down matches after each tourney is Righteous! Uncle JBeezY said it once and ill say it again. This will be a GREAT year for TYM ;)

I've really enjoyed seeing matches broken down by good commentators, it helps me both gain a greater appreciation for the players, and also learn a little more about the game. UltraDavid did a really nice one once where he went over a Bane vs Lex match from Injustice. Infil also does some great work breaking down Killer Instinct sets. Something like that would be awesome.

we need to have more extensive character guides and play books so to speak, something that feels like has been lacking quite a bit these days, its nothing like it was in the MK9 era.
I think it'd be nice to have some type of set New Character Guide template. Something so that there's consistency from character forum to character forum.

Our community has 100% been waiting for a great, dedicated commentator or team. Smash has(had) D1 and Prog, Street Fighter has UltraChen and UltraKillian and SethChen and whoever, Marvel has Yipes+whoever, etc. etc.

The best commentators we've had (imo Pig, 16 Bit and Brady) can't do it frequently either for work reasons, personal reasons, or something else, so I'm looking forward to the day when we get our own John Madden or whatever for our games.

What about Mustard&Ketchup?
It's too expensive to get to the states for most tournaments. They can always hold down European events and big stuff like EVO, but it's preferable to have somebody stateside like those other games have.

They're also doing other games and expanding their profile/reach horizontally, which makes sense. It's not quite the same as having a Yipes.

Sajam is godlike at this. He's so good at predicting very specific reads and it's oftentimes based off of his knowledge of the player. I enjoy commentary like his.

While some people may not like Arma's commentary, I like that he pretty much always explains the mechanics of the game just in case there are new users watching and don't understand the game quite yet.

I seriously think I watch streams more for the commentary (if it's good) than the actual matches.

Yo! I fully agree on this. I've been dealing with school so I had to take a hiatus, but definitely for MK there definetly needs to be more consistent analysis of matches. I'm just starting to watch the injustice pro series now and some of the reads the top players were making were damn right insane.

My time management has been getting better, so maybe I could do this in the not to distant future if time permits.

Terrible times breed terrible things, my lord.
I would love to see this happen it's been a really long time since I've read a quality thread with what everyone has mentioned.

The education and raw analysing of matches and pure techniques with the mind games....

I want it to be like NFL Game Day Prime!

Can't wait:)

Someone should have auditions or something. I would really love to take a crack at this on a big scale when the game is out and I can fit the whole thing in my head. As anyone who knows me knows, I am a walking character crisis, so it'd be the perfect excuse to memorize the game from all the technical aspects.

Yeah this sounds sweet.
Personally am here to first ask quedtions/advice since I am not that good at fighting games and another reason is that I want to be a part of something, so once I learn terms like 'meta' I'll be able to be more productive in the community.
Welcome dude :)

Same, I’ll sometimes find myself watching games I don’t even really care for just because the commentary made it engaging.

There is no barrier to entry. If you have a ps4 you can stream on twitch with no extra setup needed, and turn those into youtube videos for free as well. Post them here in this very forum. Just gotta put in the work like everyone else.
