Think it just comes down to, most nrs fans are mk fans. They were expecting a new mk as injustice is now at the tail end of the cycle and now with no new game coming and tons of great fighters, they don't know what to do.
I'm honestly not sure it would have been any different after MKX if INJ2 didn't come out right away.

Yeah I'm curious how MKX scene would've been if they broke the cycle at that time and there was no injustice . My guess would be it would die down but I don't think on the level I2 has because there are more MK fans. But no real way of knowing for sure.
Ive thought about that too. And even though i wasnt big on MKX, id totally get the XL version if the scene and support for this game was hot.

Huge issue for me is that ranked is not fun at all. I don't want to spend time playing 6 ranked against wifi players that literally got the game last week on sale, only for the 7th set to be against someone of comparable skill level. If I could consistently jump on and be matched with someone decent without slogging through really bad matches, even if matchmaking time was a bit longer, I would play so much more.

You want to know what's crazy? I've been recently playing ranked and been loving it. Since it's later on in the game's life, a lot of the ranked set players are actually legitimately decent to really solid. I'm not saying there aren't still laggy people or bad matches, but the quality is actually pretty legit now.

I advise you to look into it now because all the people playing now for the most part are more nuanced and serious about the game.

that doesn't really cover the issue from NRS about matchmaking itself tho, even tho it might be better now for separate reasons they really should improve it for the next game

But I didn't say it did tho.
i know, just want to make sure it's not being an issue that's talked about as an okay one, like it's okay now then it'll be okay in other games too after some time, that kind of attitude is bad for progress imo

Mkx would have dropped off, but for different reasons. IJ2 lost its base for debatable number of reasons, while MKX is simply not a very good game, so whether IJ2 was on the horizon or not, MKX was probably done for.

The final patch of MKXL is pretty commonly regarded as a great game. I don’t get how you can just dismiss it as being “not a very good game”. Why do you think it was not a good game?

The short of it is that offense is shallow and boring. I could elaborate, but it’s hard to say anything new at this point. If people like the game, that’s totally cool. I’m certainly not here to convert anyone.

There are other reasons, btw. Recovery frames are unintuitive. Inputs feel bad. The stamina system doesn’t equally favor characters, and the roster was... poppycock? I’m gonna say poppycock.

Just my opinion. There are things I think MKX did right, but overall, it’s unplayable for me.

Nrs should never have let mk9 die. thats all
When it comes to great games like that, its up to the community at that point to revive it. Have more tournaments at locals, make more content videos, stream the game, etc etc. Make it LIVE once so people outside can have interest in the game.

I mean, the Marvel community is bringing back UMVC 3, so its possible to bring back MK9

Apparently, Uncle JBeezY changed his answer from the game suck to the community's attitude. I thought about it more and yeah, I dont like the game, but when I see NRS news/competitions on Twitter I still retweet or share it here because people who still enjoy the game should be informed. And it keeps this place's heart beating. Most of ya'll NEED to realize that even though most of us dislike this game, we are still a community. You guys still come back, so you obviously you like being here as much as I do. So why not support ?Question mark?

I'd rather if people dislike a game they either keep it to themselves or find something constructive to do with their criticism. Most of the early critisism of Injustice 2 ended up being false narratives anyways.

I honestly think that future NRS games need to put more work into its presentation. A big part of why Tekken 7 blew up is because of how the game presents the fights and the amount of hype moments can happen at a given time. Before 7, Tekken wasn't really popular all that popular in the FGC, but the developers took a long look into the presentation of the game and the accessibility and now its like the second biggest game in the FGC. It's dripping with personality, and comparatively NRS games (mostly injustice 2, MKX didn't have this problem as much) just feel dry and a little lifeless. So I think if NRS puts a little more "umph" into the presentation, it can go a long way, whether it would be even music improvements, better animations, sound effects, etc.

I love the injustice series a LOT but I really agree on the presentation aspect. This is a superhero game, it should be full of kapows and blams and over the top animations. I know NRS is applying their dark aesthetic but that’s the one thing I wish they would brighten up in this game, still I love it

One way they could instantly add hype to Injustice 2 would be to make gear moves available or selectable for tournament mode. Maybe some characters end up broken, but it seems like a shame that some actual interesting moves end up locked away.

Also, I agree 100% on the presentation, especially the overall tone/feel of the game. It's way too wrapped up in the NRS/DC style of dark, gritty, serious, grim. That style works for MKX because MKX at least has the ultra-violence going for it, which adds some personality. Injustice 2 just comes off as lukewarm.

I'll try it out again, I check it out every 2-3 weeks and its usually exactly the same, but I hope its as you say. That small pool of players that are actually legitimately decent to solid would probably be bigger though if some sort of different ranked system had been in place to begin with.

If you yourself are a ‘decent’ player you’d have been playing against them anyway — it’s how the system works. The better you are, the better the people you’re matched against. If you can’t beat the good players, you’re matched against people who are low.

For example when I was playing ranked a lot, hovering around 200-150 in rank the game would then match me against people around the level of Kitana Prime, Akromaniac, Saltface, Buffalo, Scar, etc., so those are the people I’d have had to beat to get to the next level.
