After a long, hot weekend filled with cancelled flights, giants bugs and Jebailey entering the wrestling ring, CEO 2018 finished up for the NRS scene this Saturday afternoon. In case you missed it, TYM is coming at you with that SPOILER FREE (plz stop yelling at me) results breakdown!
The Top 8 going into this was as follows:
Winner's:
Tweedy vs. Biohazard
Gross vs. Semiij
Loser's:
Tekken Master vs. Forever King
Sonic Fox vs. Honeybee
If you wanna just see those matches for yourself, swing by either the Netherrealm Twitch or the Injustice Youtube. NOWHERE ELSE! YOU STREAM THIEVES AIN'T SLICK! Otherwise, you can catch the play-by-play by clicking the spoiler down below.
First up was actually CEO's MC stepping into the literal ring to set the tone like a not as loud Bruce Buffer. Following him was our first round of Winner's with Noble Tweedy vs. bc Biohazard. Mixing things up a bit, Tweedy used his Dr. Fate while Biohazard brought out that pocket Starfire. After going down 2 games rather decisively, Biohazard swapped for Black Manta round 3. Didn't end up being enough and Tweedy took the first set 3-0.
Next in Winner's was DR Gross coming out with some swag to another song I couldn't recognize (this will be a trend) playing Noble Semiij. Semiij was coming in with the "I sent SonicFox to Loser's" badge and rocking Catwoman against Gross' Black Adam. After a close game 1 and a not so close game 2, Semiij moved on to Winner's Finals 3-0.
To start off Loser's side, Echo Fox Sonic Fox came out with the furry squad to a remixed version what sounded like Papyrus' theme from Undertale. Matching Sonic's gusto, bc Honeybee came into the ring while taking a few selfies and trash talking into the ring's camera. It was at this point that the hype grew to be too much and the stream crashed. I would assume Honeybee played the Flash, Sonic probably went with a good counter for the Flash? Maybe Captain Cold? I dunno, dude plays literally everyone. In surprise twist, it was revealed that Sonic was actually playing Michelangelo against Honeybee's Starfire. After a game 1 loss, Honeybee swapped back to the Flash, which created a situation with WAY too many mix-ups for the stream to handle, resulting in another crash. When the stream came back, Sonic was on the bad end of losing game 3, but came back to take the entire set 3-0, knocking Honeybee out of the Top 8.
Moving on, NASR Tekken Master took the stage up against Forever King. Tekken Master walked out to what sounded like some music more native to him, while King went full Goku with the Dragon Ball Super intro and 2 Android 21 ring girls. Looking to prove that Starfire is indeed Top 3, Tekken Master went with her while King kept classic with Batman. Showing that he's not washed up just yet, King came in hard to clutch out game 1 on the final hit. In a straight repeat, King took game 2 in the same fashion, putting the pressure on Tekken Master once things got into chip territory. Not going down without a fight, Tekken Master finally got a game on the board. Did not end up being enough unfortunately, Forever King won the set 3-1.
Next up was Sonic Fox's Red Hood vs. Biohazard's Starfire. After losing game 1, Sonic Fox brought back out Michelangelo, opting to just mix Biohazard into oblivion. Now tied 1-1, Biohazard wanted MOAR VENOM and decided to awaken Bane. In a final trade that was a fraction of a health bar shy of a tied game, Biohazard took game 3, now up 2-1. Feeling pressured, Sonic jumped back to Red Hood, but it didn't do the trick: Biohazard avenged his brother and defeated Sonic Fox 3-1.
Closing out Loser's Semis was Forever King up against Gross. Not rocking any boats, Forever King stuck with Batman while Gross was rocking all the boats by playing Aquaman. Continuing the theme of the day (matches decided by 1 hit), Gross some good reads to secure games 1 and 2. King was not able to fight back against the power of the 7 Seas, Gross took the final game, closing out the set 3-0.
In a special, live edition of War of the Gods, Semiij and Tweedy faced off in Winner's Finals. Game 1 was Catwoman vs. Starfire, and after 1 bad decision, Tweedy was up the first game. Running with the momentum, Tweedy took game 2 in a much more decisive fashion. After finally getting a point on the board in an impressive game 3, Tweedy returned the favor in game 4, with a near perfect on the first life-bar. Semiij got close, but he wasn't able to finish out the final game and Tweedy advanced to the Grand Finals 3-1.
Playing for the honor of now playing Semiij was Gross' Black Adam against Biohazard's Bane. With a perfect win (had some chip damage) Gross dominated game 1. Not letting himself get discouraged, Biohazard stuck it out with the Bane Train, and secured a game 2 win. On the verge of a perfect, Gross was forced to wake-up super to at least get some damage and voluntarily surrendered game 3. In game 4, Gross looked like he got things back under control, making all the right reads needed to take things to a game 5. BUT NOBODY STOPS THE BANE TRAIN, Biohazard took game 4 in the end, advancing to Loser's Finals 3-1.
Getting onboard the BANE TRAIN, Semiij was up in Loser's Finals to determine who would be facing Tweedy for the CEO champion title. Opting for Catwoman over his Starfire, Semiij took game 1, looking a million times better than he did in his recent set with Tweedy. Now up 2 games, Semiij.exe finally looked to be working and the Bane Train was running out of steam. Unfortunately for you wrestling fans, Biohazard just couldn't make the proper adjustments and Semiij advanced 3-0 to Grand Finals.
In the Winner's Finals runback, Tweedy and Semiij stuck with Starfire and Catwoman. While Tweedy was still looking strong, Semiij looked significantly better in this first game. Not making the same mistakes he did last time, he took game 1 with a smart whip punish. In a game 2 that went in the blink of an eye, Semiij took another win rocking the first health-bar magic pixel. Not eager for a 3-0 bracket reset, Tweedy got things back under control and was able to win game 3. Semiij wasn't having none of that though, he made the adjustments to Tweedy's adjustments and took game 4 to reset the bracket at 3-1.
In the new set, Tweedy kept with Starfire and opted for the new stage. The change didn't do much to slow down Semiij, he came in hard for game 1 and took that victory in much the same fashion he did in the previous set. Tweedy wasn't going out free though, and retook some control in game 2. Now 1-1, Semiij took a breather with a stage swap and took another game off of Tweedy with another magic pixel win. In game 4, Tweedy put up a good fight, but Semiij made the right read on a B3 and was able to take the second set 3-1, becoming the CEO 2018 champion.
With a lot of smiles, the Top 8 line up looked pretty happy to be there. Semiij was definitely feeling good taking this major (and the lion's share of the $10,000 pot) and bringing Noble another Injustice 2 trophy this year. Congratulations to the Catwoman God-Lord, see you at the next major!
