Just because Combo Breaker is a few weeks away doesn't mean that there isn't any Injustice 2 action going down. Texas Showdown 2018 took place on Saturday, with a smaller, but stacked, Injustice tourney. The Top 8 had some familiar faces and some not as familiar faces, which you can catch in the very next paragraph that won't be on the main page:

Winners side, we had RNG Whiteboi vs. CLN Deoxys alongside Echo Fox Scar vs. GGEA Ominous. In losers, it was Psrk Beyond Toxin vs. PG Kitana Prime and TSS KingGambler (who elminated Punk) up against BxA Starcharger. This is the last event before the Injustice 2 Pro Series officially kicks off Season 2, so we certainly got a good look at the people who will be coming in strong at the end of the month. If you want to see the matches for yourself, go swing by Panda Gaming's Twitch Channel to check that out. If you want to read the play-by-play, click that spoiler box:
Whiteboi and Deoxys opened things up with Scarecrow and Blue Beetle respectively. Didn't look like either wanted to mess around with any counterpicks and went right to the mains. After a set of back and forth matches, Deoxys finally closed things out 3-2.

Following that, Scar brought out Brainiac against Ominous' Aquaman. In another close set, Ominous proved that Aquaman does have a viable wakeup by scoring a kill with a WU MB Water Shield. Once Scar was on set point, Ominous felt the pressure to swap over to Black Adam, a change that didn't prove to be enough as Scar took the set at 3-2.

Next up was Beyond Toxin vs. Kitana Prime. KP, being the guy that he is, made sure to promote Toxin for the DBZ Summit of Power vote (which is over here) before moving onto the match. Toxin, the second Scarecrow in this Top 8, found himself playing KP's Harley Quinn. It turns out laughter is not the best medicine, at least for fear toxin poisoning, which we learned when Beyond Toxin won 3-1.

Closing out the first round of the Top 8, we had Starcharger's Catwoman vs. King Gambler's Green Lantern in a desperate attempt to prove that Green Lantern is not that bad. That plan didn't work out and Gambler swapped over to Dr. Fate after 2 games. Unfortunately, it was too little too late and Starcharger took this match 3-0.

Next was Toxin and Whiteboi in a Scarecrow mirror match. Once Whiteboi was up 2-0, Toxin decided not to run that mirror any longer, opting for magic over science with Dr. Fate. Whiteboi wasn't fazed though, and finished things off winning 3-0 over Toxin.

Then it was Ominous' Black Adam against Starcharger's Catwoman. As it turns out, you can't low profile the Emperor of Kahndaq and Ominous eliminated Starcharger 3-0.

From there, Scar was up against Deoxys. Throwing something new into the mix, Scar threw his Atom up against Deoxys' Beetle, once and for all answering the question: is Earth science better than Space science? We got the answer in a LONG 3-2 set, and Deoxys scored the win for Space and his spot in the Grand Finals.

Next up was Whiteboi's Cheetah vs Ominous' Black Adam. And after that misunderstanding was fixed, it was Whiteboi's Scarecrow vs. Ominous' Black Adam. After a solid game from Whiteboi, Ominous swapped over to Starfire to try and mix things up. However, MU numbers don't matter for the king of Scarecrows and as Whiteboi won 3-0.

Leading him to Losers finals to face Scar to see who would get the runback against Deoxys. Whiteboi stuck with Scarecrow, Scar held to the Echo Fox mantra and pulled out another character: Red Hood. The new character proved to be the thing to finally put Whiteboi to the test, with Scar starting out the first game VERY strong. That is, until Whiteboi made (what's the tier under real master?) comeback that demonstrated Whiteboi's top level skill at mid-game adjustments. Something he would demonstrate again in game two, with another clutch comeback. Facing elimination, Whiteboi ran game 3 at his own pace, finally taking the first healthbar and putting Scar on the other end of a comeback. However, it proved to be too much, and Whiteboi took things 3-0 and secured his spot in Grand Finals.

The night closed things out with Deoxys and Whiteboi facing off again, running the same characters they did at the start of this Top 8. Deoxys was not going to let their first game go down as a fluke with a dominate performance rounds 1 and 2. The wave of energy blasts and Beetle's mobility ended up being more than Whiteboi could handle. Whiteboi wasn't going down without a fight however, and turned the tide with game 3. Changing up his play-style, he was able to secure a pretty decisive victory. Deoxys made some adjustments of his own, ones that didn't prove to be enough in a close game 4 that went to Whiteboi. Whiteboi ended up completely turning things around and reset the bracket with a reverse 3-0.

In the next set, Deoxys finally took back control of things and ended Whiteboi's streak with game 1. In fact, he went as far as to return the favor and reverse 3-0'd Whiteboi to win the Grand Finals of Texas Showdown 2018.

So congratulations to Deoxys for keeping the Texas Showdown title in his home-state and showing himself to be a name to look out for in the upcoming IPS season!

I definitely have to watch this. I was watching it earlier before work, but it was still pools, and I didn't have time to catch the Top 8.

It definitely sounds like it's worth watching. Thanks for the excellent write-up, as always.

I was initially going to skip it, but it ended up being one of the better tourneys in a while. There's no saying anything about Deoxys' skill after this, he's came out hard for this one.
Congratulations to Deoxys and everyone else for the great show.

Also, character loyalist master race.
I was actually digging the mix of character loyalists and not in this Top 8. Didn't feel like people HAD to switch because of a bad MU this time around

I will leave my seal on you!
Huge kudos to Deoxys for the win, I've seen bits of him in the past and he is indeed a great player and more so being a character loyalist in IJ2 at that. The Mythical Pokemon is now sit in his rightful place among the stars in the galaxy, and he flies among the stars with the wings of the Scarab :)

Once again huge kudos to him.

Too bad we can’t watch it unless you pay and subscribe to pandas channel.. smh
Yeah this sucks, totally right on that one.

Counterpoke with armoured DB2 at all times.
FYI It's on the old YouTube now. Well pools to Top 8 is there, can't find the finals, but surely not far behind

Edit - Top 8 is also there

Edit 2 - It isn't, that's Tekken 7 lmao

Well I haven't seen top 8 games yet but going through pools and man Scar's Atom is actually mint. His trait usage is cleaner than Grr's in my opinion but looks like he just needs to get some basic stuff down like knowing what the highest damage ender is and stuff like that.

He knows how to abuse the reduced hurtbox of D3 and trait though. Made a fair amount of SC J3's whiff with that D3
