I used to do cereal first since I was a kid. Milk first was always never even considered.

However, if you dislike soggy cereal, milk first is actually the best option. It takes longer for the cereal to get soggy if you put the milk in first.

Think about it like this. If you put the cereal in first then the milk, the milk fills in all the empty air spaces between the cereal and between the cereal and the bowl, the rest of the cereal sits on top of the other cereal. If you put the milk in first then the cereal, most of the cereal will sit on top of the milk, and the rest of the cereal sits on top of the existing cereal. Of course, some of the cereal on the bottom will get soggy and/or sink a bit, but it’s all about timing.

It comes down to this. If you don’t like soggy cereal, and want to delay the cereal from getting soggy as long as possible, pour the milk in first. If you don’t care or enjoy soggy cereal, put the cereal in first.

The real maniacs are the ones who eat cereal without even pouring milk into the bowl, and then drink milk out of a cup. Or even worse, the people who eat cereal with water or even... and yes this is a thing... with orange juice.

Blasphemy!

If you balance the milk/cereal ratio correctly you can do either way and still maintain the crunchiness of the cereal.

Example - You fill a bowl with 60% cereal and 40% milk, so therefore more of the cereal sits above the milk but isn't completely dry since you poured milk over it to start with. You could also then eat the cereal on the bottom first before it becomes soggy and then filter down the dryer cereal and let it soak up some milk.

Need to be careful with this since if you don't pour in enough milk then it's too crunchy and you can't add more because it just ruins everything.

I was literally thinking all of this this morning while I was having my cereal. Has anyone even thought about how the ratio changes just based on what fucking cereal you eat??? 5am thoughts.

Idk man, cereal first only works if you put in like 10% milk to cereal ratio in my experience.

It’s gotten to the point to where the other day, out of habit I forgot and put the cereal in first. Thankfully I realized my mistake, poured the cereal on a plate, then got the milk out and did it the correct way. Could have been a disaster!

Side note, there’s an amazing new cereal. It’s Frosted Flakes with Lucky Charm marshmallows. It’s fucking amazing!

Milk first is a terrible idea from my experience since then you have a weird mixture of crunchy and soggy since all the top will just remain crunchy OR you just dump infinite amounts of milk to counter that and just have too much milk for the amount of cereal.

If you pour milk second then the top of the pile gets milk while you're pouring and the bottom gets the rest provided you can actually pour in the right amount of milk.

You’re just doing it wrong. You really don’t need that much milk. Like, you need only around 30% or so milk to cereal ratio. Just enough to where you will have plenty of milk in each bite, and some milk left over at the end to drink. Key word, “some” milk left at the end. Like enough to where you can drink it in one or two big gulps.

Also, I know some monsters who don’t drink the milk after the cereal is gone. They just pour it out. Talk about wasting quality tasty milk!

If you get the ratio right there is no milk left over since it all got absorbed. Which is my objective.

Although if there is some left over then it's alright to drink it unless there's like a ton of it. I don't really enjoy drinking lukewarm wheat flavoured milk in large quantities.

It all depends on how absorbent your cereal is.

No milk, no cereal. Used to eat choco cereal with milk. Since I stopped drinking milk, I stopped eating cereal.

I mean, your only talking about erasing from your diet the only food that can be categorized as "breakfast/snack/lunch/dinner/3am nothing else to eat/time for netflix/i'm in the mood for some frosted flakes/Just because/I dont feel like cooking.... anytime of the day, all around" type.

You're missing out bro

Bro, I used to eat this kind of breakfast. And now that you said the reason maybe I'll try this only as snacks. I knew that it was used for breakfast, but not about the other hours. I usually cook most food, even late the night.

BTW, IMO, I don't think that the cereal is used for lunch and dinner.

@Cursa , if you had told me the reason about this, I'd consider eating those as snacks, like @Israel suggested.

What is everyone's milk/cereal ratio?

I feel there's personally a fine line between crunch and wet and if you're anywhere but on the line it's always a bad time.
i just fill the bowl right up with cereal then i fill that bitch right up with milk until its at the brim
