Frieza General Discussion

He’s the universe’s fallen overlord everybody loves to hate. That’s right he’s Lord Frieza, and your army needs him! ...possibly.

The place to discuss anything to do with our humble lord.

I’m still undecided on a 3rd. Frieza fits quite nicely on my team as his assist extends Nappa divebomb combos midscreen as well as in the corner. I also enjoy a zoner, and generally quite like Frieza.

Couple of questions...

Does anyone have any gold Frieza tech? Does the double dash open any combo branches or is it mostly for neutral/mixup mobility?

In the lab, blowing up double-beaming with his qcfM is easy (not at full screen but not far from it). Has anyone found that this move (which is also his assist) is sufficient as an assist to contend with double beaming and the like in real matches?

He's the last character on my team. He has excellent anti airs , meter less teleport move, golden form gives him a damage boost , better speed and his df3 ball catches a lot of mashers and super dashers all the time. his normals are very good. The downside is that kamehameha like beams are a bit better than his fireball. everything else is good.

OH SHIT! I FORGOT HE HAS A TELEPORT MOVE! Ive started labbing with him last night and i just really wanna try a zoning character. He is the only effective zoner in the game that forces your opponent to come to you. And THATS the mind control you need ;)

I honestly find his air control to be his biggest weakness. So many times ive had people just fly through 5H for some reason and his 2H doesnt even hit directly in front of him or above head height at all so not very good for getting people off you, its more for pre emptively stopping approaches as a zero hurtbox normal than a full anti air. His ground control and confirms are stupid good tho

Yea he’s weak to SD from directly above. Need to lab challenging non-SD normals from above with 1S or 3S (whichever goes near vertical). Always think about it mid match, but haven’t tested yet.

His qcbL/M and 2H still catch a lot of spam, but most decent players know better, or learn quickly. After which, it serves as a space control threat, and yeah hurtboxless hitbox.

I like getting qcbS out. Favourite setup is doing it invisibly while Frieza’s off screen (in the corner). They think the neutral’s been reset post-combo, then BAM! Sooner or later, they’ll respect the discs (even when you don’t throw them). Favourite thing I’ve done afterwards is get in their face and low guard for just a second (as though the discs are coming, then dragon rush when they do the same. They’ve got plenty of time to move before discs return, so there’re loadsa mindgames, but they’re all situational.

The best use for discs Ive found is after a splat knockdown 2H ender you can immediately throw the discs and they will meaty everything except for uptechs and be plus on block. Then you can frame trap with 5L or 2L and continue the blockstring into 2M to duck the discs on the way back and be plus again or you cab throw them before and the discs pass through you during the animation. Also if you have an assist to cover the gap between the discs going out and coming back then charging ki puts you in a crouching state so you can charge in their face while they have to block the disc/assist/disc series

Ok, so i played a bit of Frieza online last night and HE IS DA SHIT! He is the Zone God i've been looking for! He's dirty, he's annoying, and he has awesome space control! Still trying to figure out my flow though. Ever since i got my ass kicked by a REALLY good zoning Frieza, that stuck till this day which really made me want to learn him.

His Air Ki blast is such the PERFECT anti air to keep em at full screen, and his ground ki blast is good to poke so they wont set up at all. It frustrates the fuck out of opponents! The only thing they can do to get in is SD, and still learning on how to react to that.

But what i do know is that the air ki blast does NOT beat SD. And i havent even gotten to his golden form online yet. WOOOOOOO the mysteries of this character is RIGHTEOUS ;)

air spere df3 beats sd. and with futher testing if frieza is crouching and the do the sd. d4 beats them. Just is more strict timing than others d4. sadly. ( Yes I do NRS notations. I do not know Guilty Gear notations or PC notations). hahaha.

And THATS the fun part that pisses ppl off, catching their SD with the air spear lol. What I do now is throw the air discs, double jump and Air spear, use a beam assist to keep their ass on the other side. The mind game in this is to frustrate. THEN in the 2nd round, i come to them aggressive in their face. Still learning as I go :)
