Dragon Ball FighterZ Discussion Thread (Game)

My issue right now is processing all the information fast enough.

I'll constantly forget which character each assist button is mapped to, have to look to the upper right of the screen, drop the combo or my pressure

I'll not register the cooldown of the assists and be mashing a button and nothings happening.

I'll be too on the look out for trying to 2H charges and end up being overly defensive and just sitting there in a game that gives meter for just rushing forward.

A healthy amount of arcade mode to build muscle memory and doing as many matches as I can is helping. I'm getting the hang of "the best defense is offense and the best offense is going fucking ham" mentality. But it's taking a bit and I still freeze up every now and then

Finally got my red/orange square. It’s so hard ranking up your square when so many people rage quit. I actually went to casuals matches since it seems there’s less rage quitters there.

I’m not boasting, btw. I’m still average. I’m just happy.

Ok can't lab atm but is there a way to punish Teen Gohan's stupid ass air kick that goes into a million other kicks (qcf L/M)? From my mid match testing it seemed totally safe and goes over lows and almost fullscreen.
If that's the case then fuck that squirt, easily the most annoying character, Cell shoulda popped that bitch ass plotarmored asswipe.

Lmao, I have played maybe two teen gohans so far. Him, Majin Buu, Android 21, and Ginyu I think are the least played, at least in my experience.

I really hope my team doesn’t get nerfed. I run point A.Gohan, Vegeta, and then Goku Black anchor. Super solid team even though idk what to do with Vegeta other than use his assist. Goku Black’s 5H and 2H are so fucking amazing that I think those will get tweaked. Hopefully not. Hopefully it’s just my NRS experience that is fearing nerfs.

New team I am gonna stick to 16, black and Vegeta, I think it is very strong and will fit my play style until I get good enough to explore the rest of the cast more in depth.

Bowl packed, music picked out and its time to grind some vs cpu because I got no one to fucking play.............

Ok OKAAAAAY! Im fucking LOVING this bald muthafucka named NAPPA! Something about putting his thick ass foot in somebody's face is SOOOO satisfying! I can BnB all day with him! Still trying to get his neutral down in opening up opponents, but his mediums are GODLY, his H has INCREDIBLE reach. Yeah, imma rock with him on my team for now. I mean, we winning so he can stay for now ;)

Is android 21 worth the grind i really wanna see what shes like but story mode is long as fook is she really worth it ?

Don’t know, still grinding, it’s dull af, but I stupidly like the lobby merch, so want the Gil and thus don’t skip fights. Pretty much ignoring cutscenes once I’ve got the gist.

Such a shame, db games have had some really enjoyable story modes too. Just don’t want to press x in cutscenes and why bother with the ‘board game’.

Should have done it old school, click next battle or explore map manually for dragon balls.

Online experience is by now an awful experience for me. When you choose everything else than "Anything Goes" on Connection Quality filter matchmaking takes close to forever. Anything Goes finds you match pretty quickly but connection is just terrible. Game display like 15-20 frames of delay and doing anything else than mashing autocombos seems impossible.

I feel dumb if this was common knowledge but you can que up for ranked\casual and then go into training and lab while waiting for matches. Ended up playing a lot of good matches last night no disconnects and only slight lag on 1 or 2.

His crouching light feels really good as well with it's range. I think it's a free check after alot of super dashes which is big in this game.

I've found just 2H-ing after a superdash on block to beat out follow-up normals every time is a bad idea. If they bait it their whiff punish is gonna hurt a hell of a lot more than had you scored a successful one.

Nah i thought the medium auto combo was safe pressure from midscreen into a frame trap. Turns out it's negative by at least a few frames.

I did a "jump test" with it. Its minus.
 
Something worth mentioning that I've been thinking alot about: Meter building

It's super interesting how your meter builds with offense.

Combos with 1 bar and 1 assist appear to be super meter efficient. A simple one I do with Nappa and Piccolo nets just 4.5k damage, but builds back .80 of the bar it spends. I've essentially spent only .20 of a single bar

Then my 2 bar bnb with 1 assist, I start with 2 bars and end with 0.8 bars, so adding a bar I've spent 1.20 up from .20. Basically I made none of that additional bar spent back and while 5.2k up from 4.5k it's not huge.

I'm more sensitive about not going for multi-bar combos to often, unless they're going to put my opponent down a character. Because it feels the cost goes up on a bell curve and damage that the opponent can recover isn't a huge reward for those resources spent.

Yup. Punishing the SD with 2H on block is bad most of the time. 2H is way more punishable on block. So if they block after you block a SD, you gon get got. May as well just keep blocking and see what they do, or super jump and back dash to get away from the pressure. If they try and SD again, then just 2H it out of the air.

For recognizing which assist is which, that will come with time. Just remember the original order and who replaced who.

Actually that isn’t necessarily true. This early meta of using assists primarily for extending combos isn’t really an optimal use, only for some characters and/or if the combo will kill.

Assists are far better used for pressure and to help “cover” your character. But as I said, it’s not a universal thing. Sometimes using assists to extend combos is what you should be doing. Although, people still aren’t trying to go for resets with assists, which is what I’ve been working on. That and for pressure/cover.
You dont need to pick. I mean, you can do both depending on availability.

I use frieza's assist to repop people into the air and extend combos if it's up, and as cover for jump ins because it blows up super dash and pops people up right into my jump in.

I use vegeta for the same type of cover, and he has arguably the best assist in the game. Great for cover, best for combo extension because of the insane hitstun, works for resets with 6M, etc.

This assist combo lets me do both at the same time. If i use one for cover, then open someone up, i still have the assist available for the extension. Extending with an assist leads to a reset that kills with one bar if it lands.

I wouldnt say extnding combos isnt optimal use of assists at all. Id argue that you shouldnt choose between only using for cover or only using for extending.

It basically is except this is unreactably fast and goes to the other side if you block it, it's like Vegeta's qcf H but meterless..

I already disliked Gohan as a character straight up and the game making both versions annoying af to fight just makes me dislike him even more..

I'll test it.

Ok. All versions are minus. Light and heavy version seem to be about -1 or -2. Medium is quite a bit more. Punishable on block actually. Couldnt get it to go to the other side on block for any version.

All versions get straight up beat by projectiles or 2H
