Sub-Zero Speculation

It is better this way
I was actually thinking the same thing about how his trait would work, it makes the most sense.

I'm at work so I can't re-watch the trailer right now, but didn't double klone have the flash that a mb move does?

They usually show 1-2 gear moves in trailers. In redhood trailer only one move was gear related.

Low puddle and clone slide might not be gear related. I think if you meter burn slide right away he sends sliding clone instead of performing the slide himself and if you meter burn slide after hit then he does ice blast thingy.

His trait is ice clone, tyler confirmed it.

There's his normal Slide, but I have a hunch that his slide might be prevented from some chars' special moves, like Aquaman's trident strikes. I'll have to lab him deeply to see what must I avoid during my upcoming events.

Another hunch is that his Ice Klone Slide might be a gear move replacing the normal Slide, just like what happened with Captain Cold's Ice Burst being replaced by Ice Blast.

I dont think the slide has 2 MB moves. Clone slide is most likely gear.

The gear moves I think could be the puddle and/or the shoulder move when he does MB ice burst. I hope all clone related moves will be a part of his trait, but that clone dive kick could be a gear move too.

How come? Isn't that sort of a Sub-Zero staple? In the trailer it didn't freeze because Wonder Woman absorbed it with her bracelets.
It's not about it being a sub zero staple it's about it being an injustice staple. most specials in this game need meter to launch. They did the same thing with scorpions spear in i1.

True. I think that all of his moves, except of the Air Ice Hammer and the Noob Saibot powers, are a port from MKX.

I only wish they had this newly reworked Air Ice Hammer being used this way in MKX. -_-

I have a hunch that his Noob Saibot powers are gear abilities. Only the real Noob Saibot had those powers as a Shadow Ninja.

I only hope that his Ice Klone is fast enough that I can run and do the F42T to throw my opponents back to the IK, otherwise I'll have to do the MB Slide to throw them this way to the Klone.

And I hope that his Polar Puncture doesn't have the same inputs, otherwise I'll have a problem there.

I'm guessing regular freeze will still freeze but won't combo off a string. MB version will be required for it to combo

I thought the same when we first knew that SZ would be in the game, but the game has plenty of meterless launchers (like Ivy's Datura2 for an example of a character we both know well). Regular iceball if it's similar to MKX is a slow move with 0 damage and heavy damage scaling so I think it could still freeze and not be OP in the I2 context.

datura 2 is not a full screen projectile that can give you a full combo on trade

Hey @Tom Brady nice analysis! Some comments about the videos and extra speculation:

- Cryo's command throw was never a Mid, it was High throw, and the animation in the trailer looks like it still hits high (it looks like it hits even higher) so it's duckable (and in Injustice ducking protects you against Highs and Lows).

- Also on the command throw, Cryomancer's command throw gave more distance with your opponent than what you were showing, plus then klone itself moves you a bit back before popping, it would still be a cage but with more room but at the end of the day not so much different in terms of frame advantage than MKX F12 ender on juggles and then klone.

- That said, I disagree on the speculation about gear moves, as others mentioned usually they only show 1 or 2 of them, and I think those would be the puddle and the command throw (I might be wrong here, we're in speculation territory so anything can happen).

- I agree with the speculation about klone working similar to Supergirl's and Brainiac's trait, but I think there will be extra options (like with those characters) and those options will be the klone projectiles to be able to adjust to matchups that don't care about the klone (so the trait meter is used for something).

- I think you missed the opportunity to touch on the fact that Sub-Zero now has disjoint hitboxes moves (D2 and F1(whiff)22 from MKX Cryomancer's) which could be huge for him.

- It seems like he will get a bunch of lows, but no mixup potential at all (unless the new kicks string has an OH ender at the end of it, but even then it would only be mixable with slide) so even if it looks like he has a good mix of tools, as you said it will no longer be a potate and it will take some skill to actually open opponents and work them into the corner. Best mixup would be jump punch into air hammer MB or b33 and you need to get a clean jump for that.

About the Atrocitus matchup:

- I don't think iceball will punish his puddle at mid to long range because the startup is probably slower than FTD AND ALSO it's not a fast traveling projectile (while FTD hits inmediately) so it won't punish on block. If trying to trade I suspect that a fast enough puddle will be able to hit and then hold down while the iceball gets there at long range (or the iceball won't come at all if you're hit before you throw it as it could be around 30 frames startup if it's like MKX).

- IMO punishing with slide into HKD and then force the game that you want to play on them will be a better counter to puddles (if it reaches as far as Poison Ivy's gear slide, at least it should punish from mid distance or as you said, recover from the whiff and keep punishing).

- Also remember that now you can change the amount of time you stay in the air with Air Hammer and (if it's not gear) the air klone throw, which would be HUGE in this matchup.

About the Black Adam matchup:

- I mostly agree with everything you said, at least in theory before we get actual info, it looks like a good matchup.

Yup, it does.

Regular Iceball is probably going to be around 30 frames so it can be beaten before it releases by a ton of stuff. Green Arrow can load ice arrows and release them in very strategic ways without spending meter which I think is stronger than spamming 30 frames projectiles.

i didnt say ice ball punishes puddle, i said it wins all the trades. the risk is on him not you. whiff slide into combo will prob punish puddle n block.

Yeah but that's why I added the point about iceball being too slow for trades and probably a lot of times SZ will get hit before releasing it or Atrocitus will be able to evade the iceball after recovering if they come out at the same time and he's far enough.

We still need t wait for the actual game data, let's hope the Grand Master is stronger than ever :D

Im betting that the Clone Slide is tied to his trait button. Not gear Ability. Like Robin's trait, pressing down back Trait does the normal clone. Down forward does the Slide Clone, etc.

The kneejerk assumptions that the damaging Clones are Abilites are over hasty I feel. They would be too much if this was MK, but it's not. This is a game where the max character distance is huge and many matches are played largely at that full screen distance. Sub needs new tools to compete with zoners like Firestorm, Fate, and Deadshot. I think his Clone being tied to his trait button all but proves the Clone is going to have very expanded functionality.

I'm holding out hope that the clones moves are just an extension of his trait. Air Dive Klone could be db4 in air and slide clone could be bf4 while standing.

These klones would still use trait bar like supergirl.

Nice breakdown, I believe Tyler said during one of the E3 presentations(forget which one) that Sub's trait is definitely the clones but wonder if that includes his slide clone and air dive clones will be part of the trait til it runs out or if they're like you said, gear moves. That double ice clone is awesome though lol going to be great for defensive tactics. I was never a Sub-Zero Player but I'm very, very curious to use him in this game. Would be the first time I do since UMK3 Subby. I also wonder if they'll give him an ice teleport, ice shower as gear unlocked moves? This is something I've wondered myself.

I think he'll be one of the more annoying(in a good way) defensively characters in I2 honestly.

Yeah I think that makes sense, giving Sub some of his old moves from previous games as gear abilities. Personally I would like to see the Ice Skate from MKDA come back.
