Why does Aquaman's trait work the way it does?

This isn't a complaint thread about Aquaman, he's obviously a really strong character, just a genuine question. In Brady's thread, 16 bit said that it is working as intended, I'm kind of curious why he takes such massive amounts of chip with it activated, sometimes not really saving Aquaman all that much life at all.

He's not supposed to just be saved from an entire combo. Even if you block a b3 post trait, you're saving yourself from some damage(if the trait is used correctly, anyways).

Aquaman is arguably the strongest character even without the trait. Some characters are more trait focused than others. He doesn't need his to be "fixed" or better.

This post is for people who will post, more than it is for dankster morgan. I know you're not downplaying Aquaman.

90% of the time trait is still worth using, as seen at combo breaker. Also even if he takes the same amount of damage, he doesn't have to suffer a knockdown(which being knocked down is Aquaman's most easily exploitable weak point) is still something I guess.

In the last game he didn't have that penalty.

You might as well cut your combo short. He got out of combos free and limit your damage against him. It was unfair af because he can do something unsafe and essentially punish you for attempting to punish him.

He sweeped majority of the cast because of that reason.

I got a chance to speak with 16-bit at Combo breaker about this. The trait is meant to be used all in part of the mind game for both opponents. It isn't just a "get out of jail free card" like it was in IGAU and the reason that it deals so much chip damage is because it isn't technically a combo so none of the damage is scaled at all.

So that is where the mind game begins and wondering if the opponent is going to bait the trait to do HUGE "chip" dmg or if Aquaman will be able to use it effectively and avoid both damages.

Thanks for the answers guys. Also thanks for reading lol I thought I was gonna get roasted.

It's mainly the transition between the mentality of the IGAU version where it's just like "eh eat a dick lol" and this one where there is some thinking on Aquaman's part. Even still it's an awesome trait.

Bro I saw Brady's video and I've watched some tournament gameplay. If you're saying that Aquaman taking full damage while blocking after he activates trait is the way it should be, then you have to agree that it's one of the worst traits in the game.

So what is the answer? Buffing who a ton of people think is the best character?

This is definitely not the worst trait in the game. A meterless way out of combos, even now that there are ways to screw you is dope. Lvl 3 Canary cry? I don't care. Batman has bats out? Alright cool. Just ate an ice arrow? Awe shucks.

It adds an actual risk to using a move that can get him our of combos. Along with air tech. Something to consider is not every character is going to have a way to do a ton of chip to aquaman with the rest of their combo. Tom showed the worst case with Black Adams EX lightning on block. Meanwhile some characters like harley do nothing and get pushed for trying to combo him.

Who all in the game can cause huge amounts of chip damage to Aquaman while his trait is active after he is no longer being comboed? Is it a large portion of the cast or a select few?

We need a picture or gif that is universal, for when someone downplays a character because "they were better in Inj 1".

I feel like most legacy characters were better in that game and it doesn't matter.

Spammer. Crouch walk hater.
Trait still idiotically broken as fuck.
Now you have to at least think when to activate it, where the opponent can't continue pressure.

Think for example scarecrow db1, you activate it during the hits so he has to meterburn it to be -1 otherwise here comes 40%. He can't presure or chip after it.

Having to risk activating it is good.

Character is already braindead broken please we don't need 10more years of that crap.

All I'm seeing deep in top 8's right now is Black Adam, Batman, Dead Shot, and Atrocitus. A ton of people can say what they want but until he wins some tournaments, let's not say how good he is just yet.
