Keeping MKX alive

I'll still be playing mkx, not sure if I'm getting injustice 2, the only reason I honestly was considering buying inj2 is because I've read that it's similar to mkx and as much as it has its flaws and people saying this and that to me it's one of the funnest fighters ever. Mkx and sfv for me. And about the longevity, I've said this many many times here in the forum, if nrs supported it more time then people would be hyped at the new characters and patches for this game, not injustice. Yes as a community we can put in our little grain of sand but nrs are the real reason their games come to an end. People bombarded boon on Twitter for like 4 months about getting a kp3 and more patches, there was a 2 month time on his Twitter where he hinted inj2 and people still asked for kp3, he ignored us (maybe not him, maybe wb so I can't say only him for sure) but that tells you a lot about where nrs stands. If I recall correctly he once tweeted something along the lines of "lol people think injustice 2 will kill kp3", and nothing yet, from then on I kinda didn't bother with his tweets. Perhaps they did intend for kp3 but ran into issues or other ideas. Who knows? Anyways I hope nrs games get as much support as capcom games get, both are wonderful in their own style.

I'm not going to play injustice 2 so I'll stick to mkx for as long as possible. I will be playing some tekken 7 along the way as well. I'm not worried about what people in general believe if the game is dead or not... I don't really care, I want to play mkx. Not going to drop it because others think it's 'time to move' or or this games' dead' or whatever it is, I stop when I see say stop.

This is the sad state of affairs with NRS fans. They still have not figured out that you can play two different fighting games from the same maker that play different. That is why the rest of the FGC makes fun of you and lacks respect for this community.

It's up to you all to change that.

Who gives a fuck what a bunch of nerds think? xD
People usually play games to have fun, not seek attention or acceptance.

MKXL's lifespan is whatever the people who like it want it to be. The thing is, a lot of "Top Players" are going to go where the pot bonuses are at. SFV is a game looked at like a joke and even their community preferred 4. Some going as far to say as vanilla 4 might've been better than vanilla 5. Some saying Season 2 is worse than Season 1 in SFV. But if capcom stopped holding CPT events or anything with seeding points and the money stopped flowing. A lot of people would stop playing.

Some top MKX players who find themselves good at Injustice will have that conundrum. Play MKX for what will be peanuts, in comparison to NRS $10-20K pot bonus Injustice 2 Tournaments/With more entrants so a higher base pot as well?

I like MKX. UGL Will continue to include it various Alpha Tournaments when they return this Summer alongside Injustice 2. As long as there remains community interest. I love the game but I'm not a necromancer. We can't force others hands to stick with a game or not. If Injustice 2 is a better game (And IMO Each NRS Title has only gotten better with progress) Inherently, a lot of MKX people will make the Migration to the new title without even taking into consideration the aforementioned bigger pots.

This is exactly why NRS players switch games with new releases. I would still be rocking MK9 if they kept up support for their games.

If Capcom did this, people would jump ship too.

@mastermalone Peace.
Ultra Street Fighter IV was ported to the PS4 and released in May 2015. At the time, it was the only SF played at major tournaments regularly.

SFV dropped in February 2016, and Capcom dropped SFIV like a hot potato. They're no different than NRS, or any other company that wants to make a profit.

WTF would they continue to patch and update and release new characters for a game that has already sold what it's going to sell? At some point, the existing fan base will be too small to justify spending time and resources on the old game. And players are always more interested in what's new, than what came out three years ago.

Companies will ALWAYS make more money releasing NEW games with NEW additional content, than releasing new content for an old game. It's about money and it has nothing to do with the quality of MKX, MK9, SFIV, or any other game you want to mention.

So the bottom line is this: Stop expecting companies to"support" old games for 5-10 years. The only way that's happening is if they don't have the money and resources to make a new game for you (and that was definitely Capcom). Besides, if you absolutely NEED new patches, or characters, or stages, or ports to keep you interested in a game, it's probably time to move on anyway.

If a game is good, you enjoy playing it, and you don't feel the need for anything new to keep the game "fresh" , there is no reason to stop playing... Except for a pot bonus somewhere else.

SFIV was not dropped like a hot potato, it was released in '09. Patching and releasing new content for their game throughout 7 years is much different than NRS.

MK9 was a great game that was left for dead while remaining a mess, like every NRS game until MKX. I personally would have stuck with MK9 and Injustice while playing their new releases if they would have patched them once in a while even after the next game dropped. But once a new title is out, it has been "thats all folks" from NRS in the past and possibly into the future. And considering how often they put out new titles, it makes playing their previous games really painful.

With that said, I do not expect a game to be supported and kept fresh throughout a 5-10 year span. But it would have been nice for them not to leave us playing amazing games in a toilet.

And btw, I understand it is about the money. I am just speaking from a fans perspective. At the end of the day I am happy that NRS is so actively putting out new games.

Define competition?

Kombat Kup is going strong, extremely high level games.

It's not a flagship at major, but it's still going, players still playing.

To both of you guys.

I mean that a lot of players just stopped playing MKX since the last patch. Others stopped playing it due of INJ2. This is what I meant by the competition being killed. The more players playing the very same game, the more the competition is alive. Now it's just a selected few gamers playing it. It's no fun just playing the same and very few gamers. :/

MKX will return with MKXI.

Yes, Patching and updating a game that long is different than a 2 year model, but I'm not sure you can see the reasoning behind those practices. First off, they didn't just patch SFIV out of their love for the health and quality of the game, they updated it with the knowledge that they have a dedicated and loyal fanbase, that will buy the new disc, be it Super, or AE or Ultra.

NRS patches their games without any additional costs to the player and no new discs to worry about. Yes, it's for a shorter span of time, and yes, once the new game comes out they no longer pay attention to the old game, but as I explained, there is a financial reward for doing so. They have a base that is fine with buying the new game after a couple of years, and they have enough money coming in that they can afford to constantly be in development.

SFV would not have happened without financial support from Sony. Without them, it would still be SFIV, because Capcom couldn't financially justify a sequel. It's not like they wouldn't have released SFV back in 2013, if they could've done so.

But look, I don't want this to turn into an NRS vs. Capcom thing. That would be pointless. If you like Capcom games play Capcom games. If you like NRS games, play those. Just know that NRS games have a competitive lifespan of 2 to 2.5 years. If that's not enough for you then go elsewhere. They have no reason to change what works for them.

For crying out loud, get a $49.00 portable HDD and install some games on it. You don't need to delete games when more memory for your console is so cheap these days. I just got 6TB for my PS4 from bestbuy.com for $125.00.

I'm just toying with you by the way but we have so many affordable options now.

That's what I've done, I was planning on uninstalling a few games but I hooked up an external HDD and now I'll have enough space for the rest of the gen. 1 TB minimum is what I recommend.

I agree with most. I don't completely blame the community. NRS has got to provide more content and support. If it's all about money, which it seems to be, just release more characters. People will pay for good dlc. Throw in a hotfix or patch every now and then and there you go.

No one does this. There's some myth that this happens, but it never does.

The only reason it happened in Smash Bros. is that everyone knows they're never going to make another Melee.

And most of the same top players do not play both games. There's a Smash 4 crew and a Melee crew and they're almost like two separate communities.

This "play everything in tournament" myth is just something that started here out of a lack of awareness.

It's mostly NRS is fault for making extremely flawed games why they get dropped so quickly. Actually it's a pretty good marketing strategy if you think about it.

You know what? At some point enough is enough. A developer shouldn't be stuffing fighting games chock full of characters to keep people playing a game, if they would leave it otherwise. The fact is, people are going to leave regardless of what they do, anyway.

Some just didn't enjoy MKX to begin with. Some enjoyed it, but moved on. Some people played it and Guilty Gear, then decided Gear was for them.

In their cases, no amount of characters or stages or new modes are going to bring them back to the game, ever. For the hardcore fans that do stick around, they're changing a game that doesn't need changing. New characters especially means a new tier list and new possibilities for brokenness. Why put in a new character, for people that are still playing anyway, and why do it for people that will leave regardless? Especially when said character might have to be adjusted.

Hot fixes and patches aren't free. If they want to change the status of a game over PSN or XBL, they've got to pay Sony and Microsoft real money, and for what?

Ultimately, it's people that decide to play or not play games. The Melee community, and Super Turbo community play their games forever and those games can't be patched, period. Ultimately, it's not up to a developer to keep a game alive, it's up to gamers. Whenever a game dies it's our fault, not theirs.

And it is with THIS mindset that i KNOW this has to be a troll post..there's no way this could be serious...

EDIT: Im sure we all know a game is only as strong as its community, an non one is NOT at fault here...as already stated this isnt an NRS only set aside case this has happened with other games as well...ggs

Sorry but you sound like something an nrs representative would say to blame the players not their company for a game ending. Nothing against you dude but what you wrote is bullshit in my opinion. It's DEFINETELY mostly nrs's fault. I'm not saying you work for nrs or that you're secretly Ed boon, I'm saying and I repeat, in my opinion nrs is to blame more than anyone. You're comparing 7.5 years of SF to 2.5 of mkx support, now how does that even make sense? Then you say "listen that's how nrs runs their business" and you're right, but the whole point of this discussion is aimed at why mkx doesn't sirvive long, and I want everyone to know that it's because nrs wants more money for a newer hyped game than listen to the legions of players asking for more patches and more dlc. It's a business so if it works for them then why change right? The thing is, is that that's the reason they kill their own games.

@ILuvFightGames: No you're the one that's wrong.

NRS doesn't put a gun to anyone's head and says "stop playing that game! This new game is out!"

WE decide when a game dies and no one else. We do that. The difference between Melee, ST and NRS is the different communities attached to them. If we all decided that we're going to continue with MKX there is fuck-all that NRS could do about it.

Do we need WB/NRS pot bonuses? The answer is hell no. We could have donation drives, sell t-shirts, pool funds, play money matches, anything to keep the game going. Instead we're arguing on the internet.

Well I'm calling bullshit on all that garbage. Stop blaming other people and take initiative yourself. Start a thread, connect with people, get a local scene together... Whatever it takes. But just know that responsibility is yours, IT IS the player's fault, and only players can fix it.

I guess that would be profound if any game other than Smash had ever survived its sequel. Super inflammatory though, good job on the hyperbole.
Apparently, none of us have ever played another FG in the past 25 years, or play any other games for that matter. The "NRS" scene is so compartmentalized that we have no idea what's going on out in the world beyond JOHNNYBOUGHTACAAAAAAAAR!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Lol, I knew something was fishy. I guess I did hit a nerve. :DOGE
My responsibility as a player to help keep a game alive primarily is to keep playing, BUY their content, we're not asking for free stuff, were asking them to make money off of us. I AM posting in a "save mkx thread" my dude, not just staying quiet or saying "f***k mkx it's all about inj2 now". WE have bugged Ed so much about them bringing us new characters, patches, etc. and they don't give a shit. It's a business so I get it, but don't try to come here and convince these members that it's not nrs's fault. That reeks of nrs trying to cover their asses. I think whoever reads this thread will undoubtedly know who is more to blame. Anyways like I said, it's only my opinion. It's all good lol.

You haven't hit a nerve. I could care less. I'm just calling it like it is, like it or not.

The simple fact is, if people want to keep games alive, they will do so. They don't need more characters or new modes, and they don't have to bug anyone else for anything.

That isn't even my opinion, that's a fact. Take it, leave it or deny it. These are not my rules, it's just the way it is.

I admit i stopped playing this game awhile ago. Not because i was bored or didnt like it, but there were just so many other games being released and i wanted to play them. I have wanted to play this again recently but tbh, theres no reason. Nrs spews out games kinda fast and its community jumps ship in flocks. Look at mk9 lol i doubt 3/4 the posters here even own the game anymore let alone have it installed.

Time to move on.

There's not one "fact" about anything you've said. How can people keep "games alive" if there's so much competition and the developers refuse to listen to their community and not refresh the damn game? I'll make it simple, SF 5 will live many more years because capcom always makes more dlc and refreshes it, characters being the major point. How long do you think players would stick with sfv if after 2 years capcom decided to make SF 6, with no patches to 5, no new nothing but only focused on SF 6? I can assure you most would go to SF 6, it's simple logic. Anyways like I said you have your opinions and I have mine. I respect your opinions even though in my eyes it's pretty easy to understand how more of the fault is in nrs.
