Yeah, I've been going over it some. Mui Mui got a 6A overhead which is neat but the K' changes make his timing off for me and I barely get to grind as is. Need to retrain my one good dude now.
K' got wrecked a little bit lol my boy Chin got off with a tiny slap on the wrist.

Most of the changes were reasonable and help tighten the balance up a bit. Some however feel questionable, such as nerfing the safety on Terry's A Burn Knuckle and making King's stand D whiff on crouchers (which is weird since it's been hitting crouchers since forever).

King also took hitbox nerfs if memory serves. I hear a lot of complaints about using her now. Especially since she already lost double strike projectiles in this game to the max mode system.

Gettin some good mileage out of Love Heart/Mian/Kukri right now. Those Kukri Max mode teleports and setups are just too sick.

Been seeing stuff about an upcoming graphics update. Not really much to look at as of yet. Kyo's nose looked a little less like it could cut your hand off. If all the sharp noses were dulled a bit I think I would be ok with that. I'm a bit curious to see what they have been doing, it's a pretty unusual thing to be getting done. I don't think it it's going to end up looking like Xrd.

Still unsure what I think of the game. I liked playing it, but there didn't seem to be anything much going on on-line and I didn't really care for the way that experience was set up. That and the turning out to not be any good.

If you were expecting Xrd you were delusional from the get go. The way those maps are setup is completely different than the way they are in KOF. Plus it requires like quadruple the work to animate and light such models due to the stretched nature of the UV's and the necessity to hand paint each frames shadows to avoid flicker when using them. Thats not even including all the extra rigging and use of negative space between UV's to create black outlines.

Simple break down. Any crease or line on the body is its OWN seperate unwrap. You dont get whole arms as a UV map. You get every muscle in the shoulder and bicep etc down to each finger joint. Then you got to stretch those maps into squares and you flood fill them with color solids. Then the negative space between maps is left with no color and you have to hand tug each seam of every map slightly into a colorless area so that it creates a black vector that never pixelates to create all those outlines that make XRD look like a cartoon no matter how hard you zoom in. Makes setting up ALL maps a bitch because the UV's are stretched to shit and distort all textures. Its why they flood fill em and Hand paint all shadows and such instead of using normal ass light and shadow maps. Because to get those lines you CANT use light and shadow mapping tricks. All engine made shadows and highlights warp and flicker like hell. Hand paint or die if you do this.

Such an expectation wasn't even trying to be realistic or fair. There is a REASON no one does it besides that game. The overhead is ludicrously high to develop assets in such a manner regardless of the end result. At that point its actually easier to hand animate and cheaper too than to do what they did.

Believe me...I tried that shit for my own stuff. Screw. That. I wouldn't wish that pipeline on LARGE teams much less small indie animators like myself. SNK was wise to avoid it and just add reflection, shadow, highlight map work, and more ambient occlusion work post launch. Only snag is if it comes at a processing overhead that causes stutter or lag online to process the new lighting overhead and maps.

That was a joke made out of "wouldn't that be nice" thinking. Xrd is the only game I know of that has managed to preserve a traditional 2D look when transitioning to 3D, motion trails and all. It's nuts what they did.

I don't think KOF 14 is as bad looking as some people make it out to be, but KOFIII was artistically brilliant and it's a little hard to reconcile that with the new look. I personally really love the anime style look in general, but I guess KOF actually only had 2 versions with that going on anyway, so it's not like there is a big loss of history.

My main team has been Mai, Terry, Iori. I've been fooling around a bit with Kukri, Geese and Love too.

Still have lots of work to do stepping my game up in KoF
Nice! Pretty good team. I main beni, iori, maxima. But 2ndary kyo, hein, (even though hes bad) KoD. And dabbled with kukri and terry.
Luckily for me, i actually have a good scene.here but still just average

Hein is not bad, dude is fuckin bonkers in the corner. Has safe specials, and can frametrap for days with his fireball.
Maxima is way worse compared to him lol.
