Fujin!
Just wondering, why can't NRS just continue to make different types of fighting games and that being okay?
Take a look at Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Killer Instinct. UMvC3 is extremely broken and has a lot of crazy stuff in it, but everyone is fine with that and they continue to play it. Killer Instinct has a bunch of different and crazy "character archetypes", including characters with a wide-variety of tools. Once again, everyone is fine with it and continues to play it.
These games are crazy and over-the-top and no one bats an eye. Actually, no. People do bat an eye, but when they do, they end up praising it. But every time NRS steps out of the "general & basic FG rules" zone to create their own type of FG, everyone flips out. So what if a character has multiple tools? So what if they meta is "simpler"? So what if it has different mechanics?
Don't get me wrong, I don't like broken stuff either and I'm not saying you should shut up or anything. I think it's important to be vocal, and I really do hope that some of this stuff from the Beta does get fixed.
But what I'm mainly talking about is all of this stuff about how to make "proper" characters, or "proper" mechanics, or whatever. All of these "FG rules lists" going around, like shown in the OP. People saying that devs HAVE to do INSERT THING HERE in order for it to be a "proper" FG. Why can't NRS just do their thing and make NRS games?
