should not be in the game lol idk why NRS insists on trying to make superman OP. also i didnt know everyone hated variations.

theses arent variations they are single attacks/abilities. you wouldnt add a useless one so that issue wont exist.
and the abilities are dropped like gear but they are their own slots with the character, its not "this armor gives you a new move" there are 2 ability slots.

basically what im hearing is people want a simple game thats easy so they dont want variation? lol adapt son

all they have to do is make the moves selectable at the start and not unlockable like the gear is.
I mentioned variations because it was stated MKX didn't have problems with the variation system. So...just make sure read what you're replying to fully.

And it's not about being "easy" it's about being balanced. And I'm not going to go out on a limb and predict any of the abilities and possible combinations of abilities will be balanced for tournament play. Sorry.

Most variations in MKX are only 1 or 2 special moves/strings different than the other variations.

Not every station console at tournaments are going to have every option for every character and that's where the problem resides atm. There's even stations who don't have all brutalities to this day.

No
eh i think most are more different than that lol

and like i said if the moves are available at the start of the game and dont need to be unlocked this wont be an issue. all theyd have to do is that, balance them and make it so you can swap abilities at the select screen and it wouldnt be an issue. it would make the game far more interesting too

I voted yes but I wanted to vote for maybe. Right now I feel like it could make characters more interesting, but we'll have to see how it plays out. I didn't realize Batman had 10 specials, I've only unlocked like 3 for Atrocitus.

my mistake

and thats fully possible that maybe a combination of abilities will be unbalanced but there are some that replace other moves so its a simple fix and with beta testing nows a good time to figure out whats broken. i just think its possible and wouldnt make the game a broken mess. the first injustice had unwinnable matchups and i dont ever wanna see that again so id like to have some variety in moves

I agree. But all of this just reminds me of the interactable debate from INJ1. Most people were in favor for it because you can armor through them and back dash on reaction (still hilarious even today).

It wasn't until later in the game's life where we got caught with our pants down with interactable OTGs and the fact a power or tech character had an advantage over one of the others because of what stage you're on. Acrobatic characters were pretty much screwed no matter what in the interactable department.

I don't think so in the beta but someone said he had 9 or 10 on the watcher stream. I had assumed it would be about 5 per character or so.
ohh ok. one thing you gotta consider though is that some are traits, or super moves, or wake up only attacks like one of batmans thats the demo sonya roll so they arent all new special moves.

yeah interactibles were a predicament but imo they should have just done less damage and not OTG'd which are changes they made in this game and most are blockable which is exactly how they should have been. i just think this can happen and be balanced if NRS allows it and we give it a chance

so far I've unlocked advanced parry, dual batarang, boomerang batarang, mechanical bats that explode, and his little grenade wakeup. Im only level 30ish so I'm sure there's more

After spending a long time playing in the Beta I think it would be amazing if they found a fast and efficient way to include the extra moves, but currently I do not have faith that something like this will be implemented. I fully expect the only options for tournament will be the vanilla version.

and yet tons of Catwoman, Flash, Batman, Scorpion and Killer Frost players still found remarkable tournament calibur success.

Can't really say for certain until we know how much impact the different moves have. In theory though I'd be down for it, it'd be less boring that way.

I like this idea. Like you said its kinda like a mini-variation system and I personally think the variation system in MKX served its purpose for the most part. Yea this is a great poll. However, I think I would be overly optimistic in saying that it would happen.

What Killer Frost? What Scorpion?

Dude, quit twisting words around. Good god this site doesn't need another person that does that. I said acrobatic characters were screwed in the interactable department. Now, tell me how that directly translates to tournament success?

Poll should be changed to "Do you enjoy life, liberty, puppies and fun?" I suspect the votes won't change much if at all.

You see, there's people who compete, and then there's people who compete professionally. As in; it's their job, it's how they earn a living. I don't compete professionally, in fact a majority of everyone here doesn't compete professionally. But why would anyone, professional or just competitive, want something that's more than likely broken just for the sake of fun? Yes fighting games are fun, playing games are fun. But if you want to have fun, play casual matches. The moment you put money on the line and play as hard as you can, it's competitive and you can't have a competitive game with things like that.

It's not good for the scene, it's not good for the game in the long run. If you play with gear then play casuals with it not in tournament.
Did you read my whole post? We had tag tournaments in MK9, we had variation roll auction tournaments at Combo Breaker and they were superflous fun.

Most of us aren't making money professionally playing this game, are you two? I assume not, so then why is that your concern? Professional and competitive are different categories anyway. Competitive people and professional people both played humorously dumb busted games before, so that isn't even an argument either. Actually, the whole fgc is built on busted ass games.

It seems like you aren't answering the question though. You said you hope there is a side tourney for extra specials, which I agree with.

Thing is though, this thread is about using them in ACTUAL tournaments. That is the issue most people have with them.

I have won money from tournaments. Doesn't make me a professional. And like Zoidberg mentioned this is about actual tournaments not side tournaments.

I really don't understand people that voted "no". MkX had no problem with variations so how is this worse? Do you seriously want all those abilities to go to waste and be used by casual players only?
What's the point of NRS even developing all of these abilities if they can't be used in competitive play?!

I definitely think that stats should not work in competitive play and that the gear should only be cosmetic, but abilities SHOULD be allowed.
because you don't realize superman's super becomes unblockable, and these things are stupidly OP clearly. That's why u don't understand the "no's"

This shit is a no brainer, fuck no. These should not, and will not be tournament legal. Can you imagine trying to guess what special moves your opponent has? laughable lol

9 in their version. And they also got like 50 pieces of gear for Batman. I guess, it's just a little part, because Boon said "hundreds items for every character will be available". There is a chance, every character will get 10-15 or even more new specials.
there also was a move called batarang barrage in an older build that threw 3 batarangs but idk if he still has it

You're not guessing, you can see them before a fight and read the description if you don't already know what they do.
Also isn't there a way to avoid that super, like dash out or sumtn?
