one; not an open beta, never advertised as such
two; plenty of non upper crust players are in, you just have no idea who they are and don't read their twitter.

Just cop to being salty you're not in the cool kids club and move on, game still comes out in May, nothing has changed.
Well damn, I guess you're on to me. I already said, I don't care if I don't have a code. I'd love one, but the game comes out in May and I'm more than busy enough to wait. But you got me pegged.

Douche.

It's not just top players though.

Mani whined and got a code. If we played MKX I could literally 50-0 him.

It's just hollywood people and the toppiest of top players.
youtubers, streamers, a few industry folk, and EVERY top player in the nrs communtiy + some top players of other games. and a few regular ppl lol wave 1 was a joke, might as well have been completely private

Once again, I'm fairly disheartened at all of this. This "open" beta wasn't open at all. I'm not complaining that I personally didn't receive a code, I'm upset that the vast majority of recipients were all big name players. That doesn't come accross as "open" in any sense of the word.

NRS, next time please just say, "Open beta to top 32 players in first wave". Then the rest of us mortals know not to bother risking getting caught on the computer on work hours.

Big D, Red Raptor, Sylverrye, and I haven't received any codes. If TYM doesn't want to consider me a top player that's fine, but the other players I listed are.

So yeah it's not just being a top player that gets you in. You gotta be hollywood as fuck.

Yet the 'knowns' are being shown on stream constantly getting matched with 'randoms' in Player Match.

Great logic there.
I just went through streams, watched Scar vs Hayatei, Reo vs Tom, Foxy vs Semiiij.

One time I saw a weird psn but it was actually a top player on a different account. I've yet to see any randoms. Granted I haven't been watching too much due to salt, but yeah.

"Constantly"? Almost every stream I have watched so far has been known players playing each other or popular streamers getting codes. Very few "randoms".
This is because all of those players have gone through random opponents until they find a player they know and keep hitting 'Rematch' to play a longer set. Just like Dragon did, and Scar, and everybody else.

This is no different from the MKXL beta.

Seems very obvious that the first wave was like 85% handpicked, 15% random. Scar was downloading the beta BEFORE the stream was even over. Random?

Whether it's right or wrong is a different convo, but to say it was done randomly is clearly not the case.

Fujin!
There were randoms that were picked, yes. But there is no doubt that they prioritized some "bigger" community members to get codes first. While it's disappointing that I didn't get a code yesterday, hopefully they will send waves out everyday and eventually I will get one.

Besides, it makes since that they would make sure those players get codes. They want competitive players in as soon as possible for data collection reasons, and they want industry members/streamers/YouTubers in as well for so they will cover the Beta and basically bring "hype" and awareness to it.

Again, it's disappointing but not a big deal. Well, as long as we don't have to wait a week for more codes.

That's not the "first wave". There's a mix of direct handouts and actual first wave recipients. The mistake people are making is thinking that the first wave should be just people on TYM, rather than the other 200,000 people who follow Ed Boon Twitter, saw "new game beta" and signed up when you did. When a site like IGN posts sonething it's going to get millions of eyes. Don't think that everyone you know here signed up for the Beta alone.

Thus some guy in Arkansas is getting randomly drawn and someone here is mad on TYM because it wasn't them. It happens.

Also even for the ones that were direct, it's not completely based on what you think -- but that's another story.

I can believe that, but if that was the case then they should have simply said so to avoid confusion and backlash. During the MKXL Beta the beta seemed much more "open" and random at launch. This first wave is Hollywood mixed in with a little "Joe from Texas". If they would've stated such then the clarity would be there, but instead they strongly implied everyone had an equal shot at a code during the stream and then we see otherwise.

Like the Portent guy said, personally I can wait. I don't like any of those beta chars at all. But when you see a top player downloading the beta before they even distribute it out, it's bound to rub some people the wrong way.

So Scar playing a bot or just a nobody who got the exact same opportunity?

We still don't have a 100% confirmation that codes are being sent today. I wouldn't get your hopes up too much until then.
okay i just emptied my spam folder like a dumb ass before reading that some people received their codes in their spam folder. if it does come today it will be the only email in the spam folder. i will keep yall posted

"Exact same opportunity" eh?

And yea he played a couple of the few randoms to bide the time it took for one of his Hollywood peeps to log on. Some Hollywood peeps didn't receive a code, spoke up, and magically got one. I don't remember MKXL Beta going down like this at launch. At all.

Not saying whether this launch is right or wrong. An argument can be made either way. But to say that Hollywood Hogan and company didn't get top billing out of the cut is inaccurate.
