What's new

Dodge rolls for a bar. This changes things.

I couldn't agree more. It kind of amazes how the "zoners" think it takes skill to do what they do.
So you're telling me that mastery of space control, proper timing of projectiles, mindgames to force your oponent to respect projectiles, and so on and so forth doesn't require skill? @Pig Of The Hut and @General M2Dave may wanna weigh in on this one and enlighten you.

I don't see how spending a bar every time you're opponent is throwing a fireball is a viable strategy but whatever. I'm not jumping on the hate bandwagon this time.
We'll have to see how this game develops obviously, but In INJ 1 there were a lot of characters who didn't use meter for combos. Giving green arrow a get in for 1 bar option against a lame Supes player would be pretty huge.

Also, If it *is* a wakeup option that potentially makes it a universal defensive tool against vortex characters....almost like a different take on bursting.

EDIT: Hell, just think about the Martian Manhunter orb gauntlet. Safe rolling through that crap is easily worth a bar IMO.

Sonic Fox is already the king of wake-ups and this, no doubt, has him absolutely salivating.

Regardless of who it helps or hurts, great idea - IMO.

Might make zoning irrelevant, gross.
Actually, it could be another layer to do smart zoning (using zoning tools to keep away AND to bait opponents into unsafe moves), and make mindless zoning/spamming less annoying.

For instance, if the roll really dodge projectiles, you could have a characters like Deathstroke in Injustice 1 keeping his original recovery frames on his guns, but still giving the noobs a tool to get in. For casuals that don't now how to dash/walk block agains spammers, it would be a useful tool, and they can spend the bar anyways (casuals tend to use the bar only for super and clash). For smart zoners, it is just another layer of strategy, a move to be target of spacing and bait. Since it costs a bar, it has limitations, a good zoner will be able to deal with it.

Is there any footage of someone using this to go forward? I've only seen it used to get out of combos but not reseting the neutral. So it allows the defender to block or maybe get a punish in but it doesn't stop the opponents attack. So it would punish a high hitting move by using a low but if it's an advancing mid string it gives you the chance to simply block it.

Seems I struck a nerve....
Not at all, you just did us all a favor and basically made a post that said exactly this

"Hey I'm a complete scrub who doesn't matter and never will because my thoughts are unintelligent any fundamentals of fighting games - so from here on out ignore me"

I respect those posts because it allows me to block shit

As long as characters are meter hungry it's a great addition. But fuck GA imagine this on WW . It would've been scary as shit

This is definitely how I see it. Baiting folks into unsafe rolls will be a huge thing for zoners. If anything I think this will make Pig even more dangerous as he knows all about how to train opponents to respect a tool to bait them into an action so he can perform a combo. Now he'll be able to bait folks into losing bar AND setting him up for an easy punish into full combo.

This mainly gets rid of flow chart zoners and forces people to become smart zoners who learn to read their opponents to tell when they're respecting tools too much and ready to start rolling. Plus giant dudes like Grodd may just be able to punish rolls if they have auto correct on anything given how long their limbs are.

Biggest thing I see this aside from an obvious wakeup thing is not in fact in any way used for getting around zoning. I see this as a potential mixup tool for some characters. I really think Batman is an obvious character with his batarang calling to call, roll through, and get a left right mixup but what of folks like Atrocitus with Dex Starr?

Super excited for this.

Main questions are:
  1. Does it have invulnerability and if so to what and on how many frames?
  2. Can you do it on wakeup?
  3. Can you cancel out of it or into it from things and if so what things?
  4. Is it throw punishable?

I doubt it. In one of the videos of gameplay released, Aquaman caught someone trying to roll out of his combo with FTD. If the roll from neutral has the same properties, then the invincibility seems pretty limited.

Costs a bar and just adds another layer to the mindgame. "maybe he's going to roll past this projectile, so I'll just sit here and have him waste meter" maybe even punish the roll.

What kinda zoning do you want? Someone glued to the floor why you shoot lasers at them?

I Love zoning but I like giving my opponents some options to get around it.
