PSA: ANOTHER THING YOU MUST DO BEFORE STARTING A MATCH IN MKX

This issue isn't really the fault of NRS, or at least I do not believe it to be.

The problem is, the profile in question has not downloaded the Hotfix data.

The quick and easy solution is to ensure that the console is online BEFORE running MKX.

The issue is that the console is not sharing hotfix data between profiles, which is a Sony problem, not an NRS one (for once, lol).
Here's the problem we keep running into at my local, and I saw it happen again and again at TFC:

The correct profiles ARE the ones signed into the game, so that does NOT matter as much as people seem to think. However, for some reason, the hotfix still randomly seems to disappear. @MrInsaynne I believe has noticed the same thing as myself and many others.

A perfect example is I believe my game vs Sonic in winners finals of my pool. I'm 99% sure the game was started under the wrong user, but I easily noticed that the game was indeed hotfixed. However, this problem can potentially STILL BE AVOIDED IF YOU FOLLOW THE STEPS BUT SIGN IN UNDER THE WRONG PROFILE AGAIN. I'm almost 100% positive it's NOT a profile issue, but I said to do it on the main one JUST to be safe.

i watched this happen on stream and this a very bizarre problem from my point of view. as a pc player i fail to understand how signing into another account changes version of the game. Technically this 100% possible but it is utterly ridiculous to do so...
i still dont understand, if this is issue with profiles then it is obviously Sony's fault, but if this issue is fixed by simply restarting the game then it is NRS's fault.
As a fellow tourney organizer i need to understand this.
Yeah see my post below yours. I'm almost 100% sure it's not a profile issue since my match vs SF was started under the not-main profile, I was just using that in the steps because it's the only way I've ever fixed it and I'm not sure if signing into the wrong profile still fixes it as well. I'd be willing to bet that it does not matter who started the game, whether it's random guest account X or the "main" profile.

I did a BAD job at explaining everything properly last night, but I hope that clears things up and that my post below will also help.

@EVERYONE. PLEASE REMEMBER THIS:

IF THE GAME WAS STARTED UNDER THE MAIN PROFILE, THE HOTFIX STILL RANDOMLY DECIDES NOT TO WORK, WHICH MAKES YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS I MENTIONED. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE OF WHICH ACCOUNT STARTED MKX. IT HAPPENS NO MATTER WHAT. I JUST MENTIONED SIGNING INTO THE MAIN ACCOUNT BECAUSE THAT'S THE ONLY WAY I'VE TRIED IT AND IT FIXES IT EVERY TIME.

Why not just do the button check with pyro tanya?
That's the solution I would have proposed. If you use a cancel character, button check with your character (and obviously attempt cancels that were broken before the hotfix). If you do not use a cancel character, button check with Pyro Tanya.

I know we love our full combo/execution button checks, but I think it's more important to make sure we are playing the proper version of the game and actually checking our buttons. I think this would just be temporary until NRS gets the fixes into a proper patch instead of a hotfix

Oh I didn't. I couldn't see shit without my prescription glasses on, even with my phone right in front of me trying my best to read, well, ANYTHING. I'm just watching the archive with rechat and feel so flattered that everyone TOTALLY loved me and was jealous :DOGE

Also, I know my commentary was not the GOAT, @Prinz, but it was my first time and I was really nervous but trying to keep calm. I promise to work harder at it and do much better in the future.

BUT BACK TO THE POINT OF THE THREAD...
Dude, I don't think I said anything bad about your commentary, didn't mean to at least. It must've been at least OK if I ain't being a dick about it:DOGE

Hey man, when I made this thread I had been awake for like 40 hours straight and just coming back from TFC. I just wanted to mostly tell people how to fix it!!!!! Give me a break!!!!!

But that is indeed a good idea. But please for the love of God, please do this so you don't get screwed over. Do note that some tournaments say that whoever you button check with, you must play, so make it clear as to why you're button checking with her.

Normalize grab immunity.
That's a crazy issue. Should definitely just do a tanya button check. If need be just say who you will pick after the button check.

Here's to hoping this so gets fixed so we can go back to worrying about no one desyncing their controllers.

Does the hotfix change the version number of the game? If so, it makes more sense to just check the version number than to spend time using Tanya in button check.

That's what we were looking for at TFC but couldn't tell. Or rather, we were looking for a number that can show the difference, but at that moment pyro tanya was quicker. If someone would post the version number with the hotfix that would be sweet.

The one thing I'm worried about is that this happens even with the patch installed, so even if it's the correct version number it doesn't mean it's going to work. Especially because I'm pretty sure the hotfix just stops working while MKX is running even though it may have been working fine earlier, which if that's the case, means the version number WILL be correct but the hotfix will not be working.

also keep in mind the version number is different for Xbox One and PS4. So everyone should be clear on the PS4 number for majors.

So based on what bit is saying, the easiest and most foolproof answer seems to be to just check the version number. That'll tell you right away if you're on the hotfixed version without the need for any additional shenanigans.

Alright that works. Now we just need TO's to post the version number on every monitor so people can check it before every match, as well as needing to remind people to do that.

Would be so much easier if NRS just fixed this problem instead, but it probably won't happen until next year lol.

Yeah, a couple post-it notes would suffice.

The thing is, these things are always half on the part of the game itself, but half on the part of the console, and that can make them tricky to fix. There was some wonky stuff on X360 in IGAU, but it was also part of the way MS did things on the console and so they were never able to completely fix it.

Just spit-balling here, but it seems like hotfixes are being treated the same as DLC? It's tied to an account, and the hotfix is probably put through this way because of a technical limitation?

If so, anything that could cause your DLC to not function properly could also affect your hotfix state. I know a lot of people have been having trouble with their DLC characters disappearing.

Certainly if you play a run cancel character, you need to make sure you're on the correct version.

Last weeks NLBC was hotfixed, This week I was at Next Level and it randomly wasn't hotfixed. I tried closing the game, signing out, signing back in, starting it up, nothing. I connected to the internet and it was good. I dont know why this is an issue but it's pretty stupid. Always check during button checks if your console is hotfixed whether you were just on there or not.

Fair enough. I simply ran with the profile thing because you seemed so sure it was the culprit.

Whatever the cause may be, the solution is to connect your console to the internet and sign in to PSN BEFORE starting up MKX.

It may still be necessary to reboot the game.
