MKX XB1 "The Loading Screen of Death"

Gesture Required Ahead

Get on that hook
This will be a cleaned up version of this thread: http://testyourmight.com/threads/connecting-to-online-issues.53160/

This is a quick description as to what this is:
For some reason, on the Xbox One version of MKX, random connections get targetted by what I'm going to call from now on the "loading screen of death", name courtesy of a TYM member whose name escapes me at the moment. What this does is that when you boot up the game, the "Updating Game Data" screen that normally takes less than 5 seconds to load up now takes at least 2 minutes if not more. And where it gets really bad is when you go Online. The "Connecting to Online" screen that normally takes AT MOST 30 seconds now lasts at least 5 minutes and sometimes on the worst case, 20 minutes. If the loading screen wasn't bad enough, your game now functions as if the NAT Type were set to Moderate or Strict even when it's Open. Meaning that you will have a hard time connecting to people and may or may not be able to go into the Rooms. And last but not least, when you do actually get into a game, the delay is so bad that it's borderline playable. Worse than the fuck awful that is the "usual".

There is only a tenporary single but highly inconvenient solution we have found so far and that is to play on a different connection. The 2 ways we have found so far are:

1)Playing on a different Xbox even when connected to the same Network
2)Connecting your xbox to a different router even if said router is connected to the main network

We also have tried countless of other solutions in order to try and fix this problems ourselves and most did not work besides the ones listed above in the white text. The failed solutions include:
Resetting the internet
Re-installing DLC
Re-installing the game
Restoring the Xbox to factory default
Port-forwarding
Switching from wired to wireless and vice-versa
Removing DLC
Clearing the cache
Enabling DMZ
Switching accounts
Deleting and re-downloading accounts
Deleting Save files
Hard resetting the Xbox
Testing the multiplayer connection and holding the 4 shoulder buttons to confirm the NAT Type
Playing a Living Tower
Delinking WB account
Re-linking WB account
Spoofing MAC address
Using a static IP and DNS
Using a static DNS only

This issue has started around the time of Tanya's release. To me, personally I believe it was a day or 2 after TCW.

Known players to have this issue:
Me
@call ME damo
@theotherguy
@K7L33THA
@One Trick Pony
@DownfouralitY
@Killjoy McGee
@Rebelo
@XxSYNDROISxX
@Audit
@Sultani
@tatterbug4
@tupacshakur99
and more. This is only in TYM. A quick google searh lead me to other forums where other people experience the same issue

https://www.reddit.com/r/MortalKombat/comments/335d7w/is_it_really_necessary_to_connect_to_online_with/

Many players also tried to contact NRS, WB and Microsoft to get them to notice this but have had little to no response. Paulo himself has been tagged several times in the "Connecting to Online issues" thread. The latest update we have is @tupacshakur99 who claims to have spoken to Paulo via stream chat about this and Paulo saying that he was not aware that this issue existed until recently and that he'd speak to the appropriate people. There is also another TYM user @shogunoflive who claims to be an NRS employee and has spoken to @call ME damo about this issue only to tell him that the problem was either on Damo's end or Microsoft's. But seeing that this issue does not affect Damo alone clearly shows that this is not in fact, a specific issue that occurs to a single person.

We are unsure if this will ever get fixed and some even have lost hope and nobody can blame them. I personally bought an X1 for this game and it is a damn shame that I don't even get to play it.

TL;DR - Watch this video

PS: I request to the mods for this thread to not be merged with the "Connecting to Online Issues" thread as it is too clustered and dated. I want this thread to be a clean restart with a clear description of the problem as well as to show the collective effort that many put on to try and find a solution to this problem.

BIG UPDATE: A 3RD TEMPORARY SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND

It seems that using a VPN can also temporary bypass the LSoD. User @MadCntt has been kind enough to provide a simple way to use one with a software program called Spotflux. It seems unclear as to how it works for now but it seems to be a similar problem to another game called Warframe where certain IPs would get stuck in a security check bug. It sounds a lot how like the LSoD targets random Xbox users and how it can be temporarily bypassed by switching connections or consoles.

Here's Madcntt's post as to how to get this to work for you
First of all i would like to say that i had 6 people try this so far and it fixed the LSoD for all 6 of them. Not only that, but 5 of them told me the online experience in general felt better than before on MK X (I can as well confirm this myself)

Now, I'm pretty sure every gamer has heard of VPNs, they are highly popular for PC gaming and became very popular on consoles as well, due to many people, especially "pro players" getting DDoS attacks during their tournament matches in Call of Duty or others.
I guess the main reason why people don't use them as much for console gaming is simply cause it takes a bit more effort to set them up compared to playing from your PC.

I am nowhere near an expert on any PC related stuff however even I was able to set up a VPN within a few minutes to work on the Xb1, as well as the others i mentioned, simply following a guide on how to set it up.

Sharing VPN connection through your PC
To be able to create this set-up you will need a VPN Account (see below for our recommendations), at least one Ethernet cable and of course an Xbox and a computer. We will show you how to set it up in both Windows and OSX and if you are running Linux then there are plenty of websites to help you on the internet.

Sharing a VPN Connection with Windows 7
  1. Set up your VPN connection using the instructions/software from the provider or using the native client as we describe in our guide: How to Setup VPN in Windows 7.
  2. Connect your computer to your router either through WiFi or by using an Ethernet cable
  3. Connect your Xbox to the PC using the Ethernet cable making sure that the ‘IP Settings’ and ‘DNS Settings’ are set to ‘Automatic’ (Settings -> System Settings -> Network Settings through your Xbox Menu)
  4. Open the ‘Network and Sharing Centre’ on your computer in one of the below ways and click ‘Change adapter settings’
    • Right click your internet connection in the system bar
    • Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center
  5. Find your VPN connections – identifiable by the ‘Tap-Windows Adapter V9′ (or similar) label. We recommend you rename it by right clicking it to something more suitable. Then right click and chose ‘Properties’
  6. Under the ‘Sharing’ tab check the ‘Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s internet connection’ box. Then from drop down menu choose ‘Local Area Connection’ (if you have multiple Ethernet ports or a computer that can host a WiFi connection then make sure you select the correct one), then click ‘Ok’.
  7. Restart your PC and your Xbox and you should be ready to play securely.
This is the one i used, then again, there are MULTIPLE guides, even a bunch of youtube tutorials for every OS and how to enable the Connection Sharing for your VPN to work on your console.

You can use any VPN, I used Spotflux as a friend of mine, who got DDoSd during his CoD matches, suggested that I should use it as well and I'm a very happy with it. It's very easy to set up and offers a ton of servers to connect to.

If you have any further questions, feel free to ask :)

Good luck and enjoy playing MK X again and of course a HUGE thanks to NRS for supporting us so hard -______-
I personally have yet to try this myself because Spotflux doesn't start-up for me for some weird reason but a few members who have tried this such as Madcntt and @K7L33THA can confirm that it works.

Bug of tater's
This thread needed to be made. We need to get this problem around so they may fix it.

The worst part is as you've mentioned, is that after connecting online. It's hard to join players because it acts as if your NAT is set to strict or moderate.

I can't join online KOTH's majority of the time.

And here I thought this was an issue only I dealt with. Do you any of you guys have digital copies that have this issue?

XxSYNDROISxX

For the Shokan since Mk3
I have the disc version lately though it has been randomly loading normally but then after a match I get back to the 5 minute waiting period and to tell you the truth guys I'm pretty much just hoping that this does something as this is one of the main games that I play religiously

Physical and it still happens.

Yes, sometimes you can get lucky and for a day or a few hours, it will go back to normal. And at one point, if you're in a match, it will desync you and it will go back to LSoD. If you're in training mode, it will freeze, forcing you to restart the game and go back to LSoD.

Mirjitsu

It's done this to me since the first major update. I also moved about 50 miles away from terrible DSL to super-internet this weekend and I discovered it does exactly the same thing. Different router, etc.

This problem is pretty ridiculous. Whenever I load up the game [not gamebreaking or anything] on my Xbone, it literally freezes up several times while individually ATTEMPTING to install all the DLC I've purchased. All the DLC I've purchased never make it all in, even once done freezing up and loading. This even happened at ESL finals, lol... They quickly panned away. This does not happen on PS4, the freezing issue.

Unfortunately, with NRS having no community manager... this likely will not be addressed. Possible new Scorpion skin on the way though...

:(

My blade thanks you.
This horrible freezing happens to me every time I turn on my Xbox One and fire up MKX, along with at least a few of the DLC missing and if you go into Manage Game it will show them as "INSTALLATION STOPPED!".

The only way I've been able to get the DLC back is to wait for the game to finally quit chugging and freezing, manually quit the game, manually uninstall the DLC, reinstall the DLC, then restart the game. Total pain in the ass and it has to be done every single time I turn the Xbox One on. I have tried putting the Xbox into "Instant On" mode which makes no difference. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the game (both on the Xbox One hard drive and to an external hard drive) along with all DLC which makes no difference. The only thing that cures the freezing is if you have NO DLC installed, otherwise, it takes forever for the game to be responsive because in the background, it's trying to download and reinstall all of your DLC every single time you turn the Xbox One on. This only happens the first time you turn the Xbox One on or reset it. Once I go through all this shit, the game is fine until I turn off/on the Xbox One again, then I get to do it all over again.

I've talked to Xbox One support, I've exchanged emails with WBGames and NRS support, posted on many different forums and this is something every MKX Xbox One game owner is dealing with yet there has been nothing stated from NRS/WBGames/Xbox One support about it.

I have the disc version and have considered buying the digital version (since all of my DLC and saved game info will work) just to see it's a disc vs digital issue.

This might be something to do with ISP. At my house I get this happen every single time I log on but when taking my Xbox One round a friend's house, the exact same console, same game, just different ISP. It worked perfectly with the connecting to online screen taking 30 seconds max. Just a thought.

Regardless this is a fucked up issue and makes me not wanna play at all. Definitely needs to be fixed.

And just for reference, my internet is Sky and my friend's is Virgin.

Maybe the game is trying to protect you from it's shitty online mode?

The problem is that LSoD starts before the main menu as well. So if you want to test something quick at the lab you still have to sit through an unnecessary loading screen.

While this problem also sucks and I also experience it, (Since MK9 actually) it's unrelated to the LSoD. If you were to go offline and boot up MKX, the DLC will still re-install and freeze in the process, while freezing the game and all.

It isn't an ISP issue, if you were to play on a different Xbox on the same connection, you will most likely not suffer from LSoD until it hits that Xbox too.

The mods are so out of touch and extremely biased towards NRs that I bet you this thread is going directly to the "complaining thread" you are not allowed to criticize a NRs game on this forum lol.
Except it isn't a criticism. It's a legitimate bug that is currently affecting a lot of people and it's only growing. It's only a matter of time 'til it hits pretty much everyone. It's like a pandemic

Ah, I don't really know much about the technical side of it so I probably am wrong, just thought it was weird that it takes ages 100% of the time, and I mean every single time, around my house on my connection but on the exact same Xbox on a different connection it was connecting straight away. The actual in-game connection is actually better around my house too, which is even weirder.

Also when I mentioned ISP's, I don't think its their fault exactly. Maybe something different happens in the connecting to online process depending on which ISP you're with. Seems a bit stupid but it's just a thought.

Also for me, it only takes ages at the actual connecting to online screen when I try to play online. When I just boot up the game and press start it doesn't take long at all to update the game data.

ShotgunInsanity

Kombatant
I once started up a private match and before I could invite anyone some random guy joined then left. I messaged him to see how he ended up in my private match and he said that he was looking for a player match and wound up in my private match, we've never played before either. This game is weird yo

You missed the part where I said "they're so out of touch" anything that could make NRs look bad they will automatically locked it or send it to complains thread.

Has anyone tried another disk
I doubt this will work because it also affects the digital version. Also all disks will function the same way anyways: it will just install the game but doesn't actually run the game from it.

Feel free to try though so we can check it off as another tried-and-failed solution

it's gotta be something with your connection, cause I have never had this issue with One, I have more issues on PS4 trying to connect or even play online. very strange.

Do you know someone else with a One that could come to your house and try getting online in the game?? then you would know for sure.
