Austin area, TX - Keep Austin Fighting

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the FGC community and been an Austin resident for a year now (moved from DFW). I've always been rather "casual" in fighting games but the past 6 months I've fallen hard for the FGC (mostly KI and MKX). Your children (for those who have any) could beat me at KI but I'm learning the ropes on MKX. I'm mostly fodder for now but I'd like to start playing more often (online/offline when applicable) so I can at least learn. I'm not looking to become the "next big thing" and fully aware I'll get throttled for the foreseeable future but the older I get and the more my twitch shooter skills leave me, I feel like fighting games are my renaissance.

Welcome to the thread and to Austin.

I will add your info to the original post. Add anyone there for online matches and I believe our next MKX meetup is June 11 but don't quote me on that yet.

I play almost everyday...or I will again after July 12ish. I might be on tonight.

Welcome, @TryceUp! I think you'll really like the Mortal KombATX community. We definitely had casual players in mind when we started it. If you want to get better, I'm sure you'll find lots of us are happy to help. And if you just want to play, we're there for that too! RyuuJin882 is right--our next local tournament will be on June 11th (this weekend is July 4th, so we're going to skip it). This will be our last meetup before EVO, though, so we're going to try going a little bigger with it. It's going to be $10 venue / $10 tournament fee, which will hopefully attract some new players from out of town. Even if you just want to play casuals and watch the tournament, I hope you can make it! Either way, be sure to join the Mortal KombATX facebook group. It's not uncommon for someone to post house or garage casuals there. Just introduce yourself and you'll likely get invited!

Glad you found us, Ray, and thanks again for joining! Just a heads up: the event is this Saturday, July 11th (not 12th). Can't wait to see your Mileena!

Won't be hard to find. She'll be the one getting her tail whooped haha. Also, my friend wanted to know if you guys do other fighting games like Smash Bros?

Most of the players in our group crossover into other fighting games, but we're focused on MKX. The Smash scene in Austin is pretty huge, though. I know at least one of the players in our group plays in the Smash tournaments regularly. I'll point him out to you if he's there Saturday.

There is "an event on Saturday August 8th pending final confirmation. Details to follow on Thursday August 6th.

Same tournament rules. Trying to keep the buy-in low unless you all want to raise the stakes. $3 venue fee/$2 tournament fee."

Was at UFO last night. Staff was nice but place seemed to be in transition.
I hear SF ranbats are on tues may check it out.
