It’s no secret that defensive mechanics in MKX are very weak. This game clearly wants you to move forward and apply pressure with run, jumping-attacks with insane hitboxes, 50/50 and advancing moves that lead to pressure on block and combos on hit.
What this game doesn’t want you to do is to move backwards. Backdashes in this game cover very little ground, have just a few invincibility frames and drain one stamina bar. Attempting a backdash while being pressured usually results in getting hit by an advancing string into combos. Even backdashing just to create space is a very bad idea. Pay one stamina bar just to position yourself closer to the corner (note: MKX small stages with insane corner carry-combos) with no ability to break until your stamina recovers from your backdash.
Best thing is that you can’t do more than 2 in a row because it drains your whole stamina and that’s why no one wants to do more than just one. After a break you are unable to backdash but able to forward dash? Why? I think that being forced to break should make you rethink your game plan and be more defensive because you made a mistake and got hit. Having a backdash available in that situation adds more depth to the neutral game rather than being a sitting duck until your stamina recovers.
Backdashing is an essential part of fighting games and a very important tool that shouldn’t require resources to execute. ESPECIALLY in a heavy offensive orientated game like MKX.
