Week 9 Character Salt Report: Emo Top of the Pops Edition

STB Sgt Reed

@SneakyTortoise is probably my new favorite member on TYM. Theses reports are amaaaaaazing!

My favorites of this week:

1. The "Attack of the Clones" reference in regards to Brady's multiple threads about ice clones.

2. The entire Quan Chi post included the name of the band lmao. Every time I hear someone whine about Quan Chi that line "forget about the vortex and the powerful zoning, what good is all that if you have to block sometimes?" is exactly what I think. lol

3. Dizzy please come back

Keep up the good work Tortoise! :D

Can we stop pretending that it's still week 1? The game's been out for 2 months now, that's enough time to give a MU a decent number.

People are so scared of getting blown-up that there's barely any actual MU discussion going on in the forums.
I think the point was that people should be discussing matchups right now, not matchup *numbers*.

If you honestly believe that you know a hard number for every single matchup your character has in the game, inclusive of variations, you are barking up the wrong tree. No one wants to see another 15 pages of "It's 6-4! No, it's 7-3!!!" right now, and it's way too early for that kind of silliness.

Did I say I know hard numbers for every MU? I said 2 months is enough time to give a MU a decent number.

My point is that people are so scared of getting blown up for even saying, "guys, I think Raiden might be a bad MU", that MU discussions scarce. At this point in Injustice there were around 150 replies to the MU threads while in MKX there're around 50 replies (some forums don't even have a MU thread).

Considering MKX is even more popular than Injustice and that there are more users on TYM now, you don't have to have 20/20 vision to see that something's off.

PimPimJim seems to have started a fine thread about current tier placement. People can definitely have a discussion about matchups. If they feel they can't then that's on them. Take the initiative and start it yourself. (That last part isn't for you necessarily but for anyone that want's matchup discussion to happen for their character.)

I think you missed what I was saying -- the point was about matchup *numbers*, not matchup discussion.

If you go back and read the IGAU discussions, a lot of the early stuff is absolute nonsense, with page after page of people aruing over whether this character is A tier or B tier, fighting over whether some MU is 6-4, 7-3, 5.5-4.5 etc when no one knew enough to authoritatively make those claims. It was an unproductive mess and I'm glad we're not doing that again.

Discussion of MU tools and difficulties is fine, but people claiming they're the authority on all matchup numbers 2 months into a game's life is silly.

For clarity's sake, your points are that people should be discussing MUs not numbers right now because they're unproductive, and that nobody knows every MU number yet, right? Well I agree with the latter.

However, I went back and looked at the early Injustice MU threads & compared to MKX's they seem far more helpful. Even the infamous Nightwing community's MU thread was extremely productive.

My initial points were never that someone knows every MU number, or that everyone should be spitting out random numbers, they were that 2 months is enough time to give a decent number (not finalized) for a single MU, and that there is barely any MU discussion going on in the forums. Do you disagree?

I think you guys are saying the same thing, just slightly different semantics.

I personally think, most salty is probably the Reptile community. The "Reptile bottom 5" thread speaks for itself.

Most chill, probably Mileena. Before their buffs, they never complained at all about her.
Nailed it. I dropped Reptile for Mileena a week or so before the "Bottom 5" blow up. It's day and night. The Mileena community is ultra chill. The Rep forum was fucking Thunderdome.

The Injustice match up discussions at this time were so bad that Slips and 16 Bit had to weigh in on the Deathstroke/Killer Frost match up, and not only did they offer more substance than anyone else in the thread, but both players had dropped the characters by that point and were playing Scorpion and Catwoman respectively by that point.

Early match up talk is fine if it is productive.

"Hey guys, I'm having a hard time fighting character x. What do you all do?"

"Well when i fight x, i find that doing y works well."

That's productive. 90% of early Injustice MU Talk was arguing over the number with vague, generic talking points.

Don't nobody do none complains over up in at the Scorpion board.

Actually, there were exactly two threads proposing buffs and both TCs got eaten alive.
