Well considering how MKX is pretty much competitive coin flipping with awesome graphics I'd have to go with mk9
Got it. It makes me wonder how trustworthy those online stats are re how often characters are used. In my experience, Scorpion is the most commonly played.I know that, I was referring to the sheer volume of people using him.
Eh that happened all the time in mk9.Online people are worse on MKX. Not even in Injustice did you destroy someone 3 games in a row, switch characters to keep playing, they beat you once and teabag for 10 seconds, fatality, and quit. Blows my mind.
Lol Liu Kang is way faster in MKX... best Liu kang everJohnny cage doesn't even yell HOOOOOO during nut punch in mkx
MK9 Reptile way cooler
MK9 Sub-Zero could pose his clone as well as do it in the air, stylistic looking strings and slide
Cyborgs, Shang and Baraka were cooler in MK9
Liu Kang felt really fast in MK9
MKX has a better Kung Lao though and way sexier Mileena.
Def.Lbsh, if MK9 was a "Kabal-fest" then MKX is a "Kung Jin-fest."
o yes he is, fuck this characterbut Kung Jin really isn't OP. Great character yes, but not OP.
Kung Jin Krew for lifeo yes he is, fuck this character
Not entirely true... the lady parts don't move anymore. The animations looked so rigid in mk9 like characters couldn't bend their spine and had stiff backs, or attacks looked like the rest of the body wouldn't be affected by its movement
I've been on the fence about this for awhile, but as the days go on and I gain more experience with MKX, I prefer it over MK9 overall. The times I tend to 'miss' MK9 are usually when I feel overwhelmed by the certain aspects of MKX or the current meta of rushdown50/50vortexurfaceoffgitgudskrublol. Which, in all honesty, tends to have a solution or counter that I haven't put time into practicing enough.
I feel those of us that miss MK9 occasionally has a lot to do with the fact that we played the game for so long, and because of that we were more knowledgeable and experienced in that game and therefore felt we had more control over the outcomes of matches than we currently do. The stuff that seemed overwhelming for me at first is gradually becoming easier to deal with.
As some have said, we have to give this game more time before we can really decide on which game is truly better overall. What I will say for sure is that MKX wins in terms of balance, MK9 perhaps wins in terms of roster and how much it played on nostalgia in general with the costumes, stages, etc. It was the perfect fan service game for those of us that grew up with the original 2D iterations. I would love to see more of the original trilogy characters return, namely Smoke and Noob Saibot. Hell, I'd think it'd be cool to see some stages from MK9 return if possible, I think Kahn's Arena would look awesome with the updated graphics of MKX.
Don't be so resistant to change, chances are those of you that prefer MK9 now will be making the same posts about how much you miss MKX when Injustice 2/MK11 roll around.
Haha, that happened all the time in MKD 11 years ago, too. Not an MKX exclusive. Comes with the territory.Eh that happened all the time in mk9.
1. Every character was NOT sort of good. Kano had a frame gap in all of his strings, Sheeva was laughably bad. There was a much bigger gap between the bottom tier and top tier in MK9, every top player agrees about this.Mortal Kombat 9. Duh.
While Mortal Kombat X is graphically and visually more advanced and appealing, Mortal Kombat 9 has the better gameplay to me. While Cyrax and Kabal were broken, at least ever character was sort of good, with their own abilities and powers. And no one felt likes they were unfinished, like here. Plus, MK9 had better gameplay, better story, a better menu, and a better transition. Moving from MK9 to MKX, it just looks like the only thing they added were Variations, that's it. But from MK vs DC to MK9, it seemed like they cared about the fans. The roster was excellent, except maybe Sheeva, the DLC were fleek, the roster wasn't centered around copycats, eat aracter served a purpose, even if it was small compared to others. And in MK9, NO FUCKING NEWCOMERS BEAT UP ON THE KLASSICS!!!1!1!1!!1!!!!1!!1!1!!!1
Ya, it is fast and in your face, and in mk3 I was never able to get used to it. this game and mk3 favor the fastest and most accurate button mashers. no other strategy means anything, and if your character isn't designed with this style in mind, they are useless. This is a really good post! That could very well be my problem in MKX. It all just feels too fast and in your face for me.
Wat, button mashing in a game where you can block essentially everything? I think you're playing the game wrong bro.his game and mk3 favor the fastest and most accurate button mashers. no other strategy means anything, and if your character isn't designed with this style in mind, they are useless.
1. Well of course. From my perspective, I've never seen the frame gaps. I have to agree on Sheeva tho. She sucked ass, but other than her, no one else seemed doomed to be horrible to me. Like, Doomed.1. Every character was NOT sort of good. Kano had a frame gap in all of his strings, Sheeva was laughably bad. There was a much bigger gap between the bottom tier and top tier in MK9, every top player agrees about this.
2. No one in this game is unfinished. Are they lacking tools they need in competitive play? Sure. But they all have character models, moves and for the most part are "finished". Just because you think a character should have more stuff doesnt mean they are unfinished.
3. The only thing they added to MKX was variations? No. Run Button, Stamina bar, Block Breaker, Interactables, Invincible Backdashes, Delayed Wakeup, etc. They added a ton of mechanics to the game which makes it not even comparable to MK9.
You can believe MK9 is better, that is fine. But a lot of the stuff you are saying is just plain untrue.
1.Kano, Baraka, Sheeva, Jade, Stryker, and others were pretty much irrelevant at high levels of play. I say this as someone who played Baraka for two years. The only character that is MAYBE "doomed" in MKX right now is Kitana. Kabal and Kenshi beat a majority of the cast 7-3 or sometimes 8-2, The balance in MK9 was terrible. MKX balance is nowhere near perfect but it is 10x better than MK9 in its current state.1. Well of course. From my perspective, I've never seen the frame gaps. I have to agree on Sheeva tho. She sucked ass, but other than her, no one else seemed doomed to be horrible to me. Like, Doomed.
2. Unfinished = Beta. Basically meaning bad and unrevised.
3. Run Button? Stamina Bar? I don't enjoy the introduction of either of those. In MK9, two dashes got you full screen. and you didn't have to wait until you wanted to dash forward again. Interactables? Took those from Injustice and reworked it. Block Breaker? Block Breaker isn't even worth all of your stamina and two bars. Invincible Backdashes? Those are invincible? Because they're really easy to punish IMO. I punish alot of them.Delayed Wakeup. Hmm... ok, sure.
4. The roster was weaker in this game. You could say that MK9's was weak too, but MK9 had so many good characters, and a bigger roster, to start off, and of course you can say, "Variations are 3 characters," but literally, they're just different playstyles. We only have 23, excuse me, 24 characters in the game, and if you add DLC, that's 29. In MK9 there were 27 or 28 characters, 32 if you counted DLC.
-----
Lots of characters didn't even contribute to the story that much. Once again, you could say that Ermac or Reptile, or Sheeva didn't contribute to the story much, but they actually caused stuff.
Ermac fought Liu Kang, took away Jax's arms, and fought for Shao Kahn.
Sheeva fought Cyrax, held Sonya and Kitana hostage, and, and Kabal.
Baraka was probably the lamest character.
Baraka joined Sheeva to combat Cyrax, Jax, and was lame.
Erron Black only got stabbed by Mileena, beat up by Kung Jin and Takeda.
Ferra/Torr popped three of the kids, but was brought down by Kung Jin.
Reptile played a slightly bigger role, by exposing Mileena, but he was lame after that. He simply got beat up by everyone else.
And you could say that the revenants did nothing, and they didn't, but their presence and message was stronger than some of the main characters. I mean, of course Kitana did nothing but get her ass handed to her the entire story mode, but at least she had presence. She beat up Sareena, Takeda, Kung Jin, and Jacqueline, became Dark Empress of the NetherRealm, and joined Shinnok in his onslaught of the EarthRealm.
Not to mention, everyone that wasn't the center the twelve chapters had to fight for screentime. Kenshi we didn't really see unless it was Johnny, Sonya's, or Scorpion's chapters, and he was a fight in Takeda's. He played an okay role. But like I said, he did nothing but get beat up. Scorpion, Takeda, and Shinnok had their way with him. Kung Lao sat on his ass and only did anything when he was fighting Raiden. Smoke was relevant for 2 minutes, but then again, he wasn't playable. They lost several plot points they could have built upom, such as Mileena's rebellion. She jjust seemed weak, and not a threat. She could have at least showed a little backbone when fight Kotal on that roof, stabbing him with her sais or something. Or she could have been naive about Shinnok's hand in killing Shao Kahn, and have been using his power and working with Quan Chi to bring him into the world again. Anything would have been better than what she actually did.
Not yet.mkx is definately the better game of the two. Like comparing street fighter 1 to street fighter 2.
For starters you don't have a game dominated by 3 characters that force pretty much everyone to play those 3.
