Let's talk: MKX on PC

Immortal

Blind justice....
Is there hope for optimizing this game? It still TERRIBLY performs after the latest "Tanya" patch?

I still get frame dips on some stages, fatalities and character interactions.

here are my PC specs:
AMD FX-8350
ASUS R9 280x DirectCU II 3GB
8GB RAM
MSI 970 Gaming Motherboard

not to mention that this is a damn fighting game that should run steadily on any PC configuration, yet it performs worse at Medium than Battlefield 4 on Ultra.

well with my specs... I should run it at a steady 60fps at MAX settings... right?
Depends what do you mean by "max settings". You should be running at max settings in FullHD but not above that. Also this game prefers Intel and Nvidia over AMD CPU and AMU GPU. Fatalities and character interaction are however locked at 30 fps (design choice by NRS) so keep this in mind.

the blame lies squarely on the developers. the crazy shit about it? getting the game to perform this mediocre took every ounce of HVS's strength. they're out of mustard and we will settle for it.

Well I hope HVS and NRS will keep their shit together in the next patch. There is no chance in hell that I will assemble another PC just for one game. And yeah, I am aware that fatalities and intros are licked at 30fps. But I do hope they smooth out the gameplay part.

Why haven't Netherrealm learned from their past work with HVS??

NRS had nothing to say about who makes port. It's all WB and to them only money speaks.... So to answer your question directly, they hired HVS again coz they probably agreed to do it for the lowest price.

I agree. It's sad though that it ended up a mediocre product.

I'm beginning to lose hope for a performance fix patch (particularly for AMD users)

Yeah, definitely AMD users have always had the worst luck with the PC port, it seems. Some Intel and nVidia users too, but it's working far better for them in general.

And I agree, no point building a new PC for one game. Same reason I didn't go buy a new console for just one game when I have a platform that can also play said game (PC).

So i'm using the PC version of Mortal Kombat X and i have a youtube channel where i upload some of my best matches. I mainly did that using the replay function, but when playing MANY replays i get the "corrupt replay data" error during the replay, the replay stops and the match is gone forever. Since i'm tired to upload sub quality matches (i have to record like 20 matches and only 2-3 of them run till the end without the error showing, and they are usually the worst matches in the session XD), i'd like you to help me with this bug. Is it a known bug? Is there a way to fix it?

Haven't bought a ps4 or xbone and not really sure if I will anytime soon. Been having the itch to get into MKX though. Is the pc version ok? I have a pretty good gaming pc so specs shouldnt really be an issue.

It's a lot better than it was on launch I can tell you that. If you PM me I can give you a decent site where you can buy MKX relatively cheap for Steam. Also with the rumor going around "that has some data to back it up" that High Voltage got fired and or put on the back burner, and Q LOC is stepping in to fix the PC port even more, makes me think MKX on PC is gonna be just fine. Population is way smaller than it used to be, but that's only normal after the amount of screwing up HVS did.

Appreciate the reply. That would be awesome. Also is it an exact port?

Its the same game. But doesnt run as good as on consoles. Online is a lot worse compared to consoles I heard. Performance issues have been fixed but I think not all balanced patches were applied yet.
PC version is not as good as console version. If you plan to play offline with friends, then it should be great. If you plan to play online competitively, then get it on console...
That's at least my impression. I play it offline only with my brother and having fun.

The PC version gets a lot of hate but many people have had very good experience with it. For example me. I have it on Ps4 and PC and I pretty much only play the PC version for convenience sake as I can see no real difference between them, though PS4 has a larger player base.

The lag is just as bad on PC as in console. People say there is a difference but there isn't. Ranked and Match can find bad players through, as PC doesn't have region locking like the corporate networks for Xbone and PS4. So it is possible to find players in ranked that are from Iceland or w/.e. This is NOT a problem with the port, but the PC version dose need something new and extra added to it that would force region locking in the ranked mode.

Still, what I do, is just open a room with my location (say Australia East) and play with the people in there. Most will be full bars and the games play extremely well (for online). I would say that in many ways they play better than PS4 as for some reason the connections seam better outside the ps4 network. I also like rooms as you get to know people and for friendships.

It doesn't crash, it doesn't have frame drops (everything on max 1080p), I'm not a pro but there doesn't appear to be input lag. I've never lots my saves, I was never stuck in the krypt.... the PC version has been a completely positive experience for me. I do not have a AMD so can not speak to the problems that card has (you know.. with EVERYTHING :p)

I use a:

Gforce GTX 960
Intel i7-2600 @ 3.4
8 Gig Ram
Windows 7 - Home.

I think a lot of the problems is that the minimum specs are a bit silly. I think if you want to play a current gen game, you probably should have a current gen video card. Pretty much all games from now on will need current gen cards so might be a good time to upgrade if you are not rocking a 9series.

Wait for the komplete edition or at least for an official confirmation that HVS is no longer in charge of the PC port.

I wish this were the case but it's definitely not. My specs are good current gen and although I now get 60 fps stable it wasn't always this way. Also, I've had so many different bugs (game has to be force-closed on exit, video settings STILL not saving, etc). If you really want MKX, this is an OK version at this point. The netcode is still complete garbage but that's mostly on NRS being completely incompetent at online. The community has become really small and finding a match through ranked or player can be rough.

Yeah, no doubt there are some people that have had legit issues, I'm just saying that there are tons of people that haven't as well. Still the nature of forums is that only the problems are spoken off. I'm not saying that other people having problems are not real.. but for me personally.. I have had a very positive experience.

Yeah, but it is not the PC port... it is garbage in all the platforms. If you play in Rooms with people that have good ping bars, then it plays extremely well.. ... well for a NRS game that is. There are a total of less players, still I prefer that. Making friends and actual practice partners rather than just randoms all the time. You also get much better quality games.

Been findning more and more people to spar against lately, got abouy 7+ solid players. Going to start a small little group who are looking to spar and have KOTH sessions, ventrilo group meets, etc, etc.

Add HandySavage on PC if you're looking for good play & players to train with.

{U.S SOUTH preferred but have been getting good connection with users from other regions as well, we'll just have to test it)
